An Autopsy and Histopathology-based study to Ascertain the Cause of Death of Brought Dead Cases

Background and Objectives:The cases of apparent natural deaths are encountered in the hospital casualties who are noted dead at the time of the first medical attention and as such are labeled as“Brought Dead.”These include the cases of sudden death,unexplained death,and unattended *** cause of such deaths is reported in the literature to emanate principally from the cardiovascular system,though there are some documented geographical,racial,and other *** the present study,we endeavored to detect the cause of such natural deaths in terms of the disease and the organ system involved,in the deceased individuals of the contemporary Bengali population,with cases due to obvious unnatural causes being *** and Methods:An observational,cross-sectional study with 105(n=105,male:89,female:16)study subjects of age group of 20-80 years,selected by systemic random sampling,from the brought dead subjects coming to the mortuary of the NRs Medical College and Hospital for medicolegal autopsy from April 2011 to March 2012,excluding cases having a history of the obvious unnatural *** system-wise gross examination was done,followed by tissue sampling for histopathological *** case-wise findings were tabulated and analyzed for descriptive statistics using sPss ***:In the present study,89 cases were male(84.8%)and 16 cases were female(15.2%),which reflects a male:female ratio of 5.56:*** dead bodies are mostly recovered from the footpaths(47 cases,44%).sixty-four(61%)cases are of known *** 54 cases out of 105(51.4%),morbid pathology is detected in the respiratory system(Rs),lobar pneumonia,and cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis being the most frequent disease entity,in both ***-one years-sixty-five years is found to be the most commonly affected age group,in both *** and Conclusions:The present study shows that the most common organ system involved in brought dead cases is the Rs,which is s

Morphotectonic and Lithostratigraphic Analysis of Intermontane Karewa Basin of Kashmir Himalayas,India

Morpho-tectonic study plays an important role in deciphering the effects of tectonic activity in the geomorphic evolution of the drainage *** watershed forms one of the major watersheds of the intermontane Karewa Basin of Kashmir *** Karewa sediments are characterized by glacio-fluvio-lacustrine deposits capped by the aeolian *** geomorphic,morphometric and lithostratigraphic studies of these cap deposits have been carried out to elucidate the effect of tectonics on the geomorphic evolution of Romushi *** mapping was carried out using GPs measurements,DEM at 30m resolution,Topographic Position Index(TPI) model,topographic maps,LANDsAT TM Imagery and field *** and morphotectonic analyses in GIs environment were used to calculate various geomorphic indices(Mountain Front sinuosity Index,Bifurcation Ratio,Asymmetry Factor,River Profile,etc).These indices reveal that the tectonic uplift observed in the region due to Himalayan orogeny coupled with mass movement and aeolian deposition have dominated the landscape evolution of intermontane Karewa Basin of Kashmir throughout the Late Quaternary *** data from lithostratigraphic measurements were analyzed to understand the geomorphic evolution of intermontane Karewa *** data revealed that the basin has experienced differential uplift and erosion rates from time to time in the geological *** was corroborated by the results from the morphometric and morphotectonic analysis.

Dynamics of fine root N,Pand K in high elevation forests of central Himalaya

Fine root nutrient dynamics were calculated for one year in three high elevation forests of Indian central Himalaya. In all sites, fine root nutrient concentrations varied with respect to forests and seasons. N concentration in fine roots was highest followed by K and P. In general, fine roots showed their highest nutrient concentrations during the rainy season and lowest in winter. Higher nutrient concentrations during the rainy season may be related to favorable moisture and temperature regimes which in turn results in increased plant growth activities. Present fine root nutrient amounts and nutrient uptake values decreased towards high elevations. In general, the highest amounts of nutrients in both live and dead fine roots were observed in september and the lowest in the month of June. Turnover rates of the nutrients in the fine roots also decreased with an increase in elevation.

在含高放核废料的玻璃固化体中添加了不同含量的Cr2O3,以考察其对玻璃固化体的结构和性质的影响.对添加Cr2O3的玻璃固化体进行了各种方法(溶出速率法,蒸汽水化侵蚀和试样坚固性法)的化学稳定性的测试.测试结果表明,Cr2O3的引入不会对玻璃固化体的化学稳定性产生不良的影响.与此相反,Cr2O3能抑制各种离子自玻璃固化体中沥析出来, 改善玻璃固化体的化学耐蚀性. XRD内标法测定,Cr2O3在铁磷酸盐玻璃中的溶解度可达4.1%,是其在硼硅酸盐玻璃的3倍. FTIR和DTA的结果表明,不同含量的Cr2O3的引入, 不会对玻璃固化体的网络结构造成显著的变化. Mossbauer谱表明,Fe2+/Fe3+的比值随着Cr2O3的含量的增加而增大,说明Cr离子和Fe离子在玻璃熔制过程中发生氧化还原反应, 形成的Cr+6有利于提高玻璃固化体的化学耐蚀性.

Community Responses to Mountain Tourism:A Case in Bhyundar Valley,Indian Himalaya

Tourism industry has become an important part of Indian economy,and tourism development has been,however,concentrated to a few areas. Accumulation of tourism activities has reached the critical stage in most of the tourism centers,which pose serious threats to the natural environment. The Bhyundar Valley of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve (NDBR) in Uttarakhand state of the Indian Himalaya is a burning example of such problems. Land use/cover changes,deforestation and accumulation of garbage are some of the negative impacts of unregulated tourism in the valley. Unsustainable activities of tourists and villagers in the valley make such problems very severe. To deal with the ongoing problems and ensure community involvement in tourism management and environmental conservation,the Biosphere Reserve Authority introduced ecotourism in the form of Eco Development Committees (EDCs) in the Bhyundar Valley. study reveals that many problems associated with tourism have been minimized to some extent with the help of EDCs but few are still prevailing in valley. However,the existing attempts to conserve the valley from the negative effects of tourism are inadequate and modifications are needed in the current initiatives.

Understanding gaseous reduction in swine manure resulting from nanoparticle treatments under anaerobic storage conditions

Manure is an impending source of carbon(C), sulfur(s) and water(H_2 O). Consequently,microbial populations utilize these constituents to produce methane(CH4), carbon dioxide(CO_2), greenhouse gases(GHGs), and hydrogen sulfide(H_2 s). Application of nanoparticles(NPs) to stored manure is an emerging GHG mitigation technique. In this study, two NPs: nano zinc oxide(nZnO) and nano silver(nAg) were tested in swine manure stored under anaerobic conditions to determine their effectiveness in mitigating gaseous emissions and total gas production. The biological sources of gas production, i.e., microbial populations were characterized via Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction(qPCR) analysis. Additionally, pH, redox, and VFAs were determined using standard methods. Each treatment of the experiment was replicated three times and NPs were applied at a dose of 3 g/L of manure. Also, headspace gas from all treatment replicates were analyzed for CH_4 and CO_2 gas concentrations using an sRI-8610 Gas Chromatograph and H_2 s concentrations were measured using a Jerome 631 X meter. Nanoparticles tested in this study reduced the cumulative gas volume by 16%–79% compared to the control. Among the NPs tested, only nZnO consistently reduced GHG concentrations by 37%–97%. Reductions in H_2 s concentrations ranged from 87% to97%. Gaseous reductions were likely due to decreases in the activity and numbers of specific gas producing methanogenic archaea and sulfate reducing bacterial(sRB)species.
