biochemical and histopathological changes in sheep fed different detoxified karanj(Pongamia glabra)seed cake as partial protein supplements

The study investigated the long-term effect of feeding processed solvent extracted karanj(Pongamia glabra) cake(SKC) on gross pathology and histopathological changes in some vital organs, and on the activities of serum enzymes in Jalauni lambs. Twenty-four male lambs were divided into 4 groups and allotted randomly to a soybean meal(SbM) based control(CON) and 3 treatment groups receiving concentrate mixtures, containing water washed(WW), 2.5% lime(LM) and 0.4% binder(bN) treated SKC replacing 50% nitrogen of SbM to meet the protein requirements. blood was collected after 150 days from all the lambs and serum activities of aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alanine aminotransferase(ALT)and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) were assayed. All lambs were sacrificed after 196 days, and vital organs screened for gross pathological lesions. The representative tissues of liver, intestine, parathyroid gland,testis, and epididymis were sampled, preserved in 10% formalin and processed to examine histopathological changes by staining with haematoxylin and eosin(HE). The serum enzyme activities of AST and ALT were similar in the treatments, but the activity of LDH was higher(P bN group, while those of testes were decreased in both LM and bN groups. The histological sections of the testes and epididymis of lambs from LM group showed hypoplastic seminiferous tubules and empty ductules, respectively. The histological sections of the parathyroid gland in the same diet revealed smaller and non-secretory chief cells. The small intestine of lambs from bN group showed infiltration of mononuclear cells(MNC) in lamina propria with mild fibroplasia in intervillous areas. The histological section of liver from this group showed MNC infiltration in portal areas. Hepatitis b virus genotypes in chronic liver disease patients from New Delhi,India

AIM: To study the Hepatitis b virus (HbV) genotypes and their effect on the progression and outcome in patients with chronic liver diseases from New Delhi, India. METHODS: Sera from 100 HbV-related chronic liver disease (CLDb) cases were tested for HbV genotype using Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and Type-specific primers-based PCR (TSP-PCR) targeting to the surface (S) gene encoding hepatitis b surface antigen. RESULTS: Only genotypes A and D were present and genotype D was dominant. Genotype D was present in all CLDb patient categories. The genotype distribution for the 100 patients with CLDb was as follows: genotype A, 16/100 (16%) (7/40- 17% chronic hepatitis b (CHb); 8/47, 17%, HbV-related cirrhosis (CRb); 1/13, 7.6%, HbV-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCCb); genotype D- 84/100 (84%) (32/40- 80% CHb; 38/47- 81%, CRb; 11/13, 85%, HCCb); genotype A + D, 3/100 (3%) (1/40- 3% CHb; 1/47- 2%, CRb; 1/13, 7.6%, HCCb); C, 0; b, 0; E, 0; F, 0; G 0, H 0; (P bV genotypes A and D were present in patients with CLDb from New Delhi, India. Compared with genotype D, genotype A patients had no significant clinical or biochemical differences (P > 0.05). Mixed infection with genotype A and D were seen in 3% of the cases. Genotype D was the dominant genotype prevalent in all patient categories.

Compact analytical model for single gate AlInSb/InSb high electron mobility transistors

We have developed a 2D analytical model for the single gate AllnSb/lnSb HEMT device by solving the Poisson equation using the parabolic approximation method. The developed model analyses the device perfomance by calculating the parameters such as surface potential, electric field distribution and drain current. The high mobility of the AlInSb/InSb quantum makes this HEMT ideal for high frequency, high power applications. The working of the single gate AllnSb/InSb HEMT device is studied by considering the variation of gate source voltage, drain source voltage, and channel length under the gate region and temperature. The carrier transport efficiency is improved by uniform electric field along the channel and the peak values near the source and drain regions. The results from the analytical model are compared with that of numerical simulations （TCAD） and a good agreement between them is achieved.

Assessment of Man-made and Natural Hazards in the Surroundings of Hydropower Projects under Construction in the beas Valley of Northwestern Himalaya

Mountain ecosystem, on the earth, has plenty of natural resources. In Himachal Pradesh all the rivers are snowfed and therefore rich in water resources. These resources have been supporting enough for the generation of electricity through introducing hydropower projects since the last decade However, every developmental activity has its own negative impacts on the surrounding environment. Due to the fragile nature of topography and delicacy of ecology of the Himalaya, it results in lot of disturbances because of high degree of human interferences like construction of major hydropower projects. The increased extent of geological hazards, such as landslides, rock fall and soil erosion, have mainly due to alike developmental interventions in the natural ecosystem. So understanding and analysing such impacts of the hydropower projects have mainly been on the environment in various forms but natural hazards have been frequent ones. The present study, therefore, focuses mainly on the Parbati Stage II （800 MW） and the Parbati Stage III （520 MW） hydropower projects; both of which fall within the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. based on the perception survey of the local communities, the existing land use pattern, status of total acquired land of the residents by hydropower projects, frequent natural hazards and resultant loss to the local communities due to upcoming construction of hydropower projects surrounding to the Parbati Stage II and III have been analysed in the paper. Also, the preventive measures to mitigate these adverse impacts have been suggested to strengthen these projects in eco-friendly manner in the mountain context.

Flow of a micropolar fluid in a micro-channel under the action of an alternating electric field: Estimates of flow in bio-fluidic devices

The paper is devoted to a study of the electro-osmotic flow of a micropolar bio-fluid, when the flow takes place between two plates that are in a state of periodic vibrations. Considering blood as a micropolar fluid, it is found that the amplitude of oscillation of the microparticles of blood increases when the micropolar effect is pronounced more and more and that a rise in DebyeHtickel parameter enhances both the velocity and microrotation gradient. The results provide guidelines for the improvement of design of bio-sensing and micro-fluidic devices. The study leads to the conclusion that electrical double layers formed in the vicinity of the wall can significantly alter the flow dynamics of physiological fluids in micro-bio-fluidic devices.

Critical flicker frequency for diagnosis and assessment of recovery from minimal hepatic encephalopathy in patients with cirrhosis

bACKGROUND:Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) impairs quality of life and predicts overt hepatic encephalopathy (HE) in cirrhotic *** of MHE requires cumbersome *** is effective in the treatment of *** study aimed to evaluate the use of critical flicker frequency (CFF) for the diagnosis of MHE in cirrhotic patients after ***:One hundred and ten patients were evaluated by psychometry (number connection tests A,b or figure connection tests A,b),P300 auditory event related potential (P300ERP),venous ammonia,and CFF for *** was diagnosed by abnormal psychometry (>2SD age matched controls) and *** patients were treated with lactulose for one *** was defined by normalization (both psychometry and ***:Of the 110 patients [Child Turcott Pugh score A:b:C 39:42:29,(age 41.6±11.6 years,M:F 82:28)],75 (68%) had abnormal results of psychometric tests,and 74 (67%) had prolonged *** (20%) patients with abnormal results of psychometric tests had normal *** sixty (54.5%) patients were diagnosed as having *** treatment for one month,34 (57%) recovered while 26 (43%) continued to have abnormal resents of psychometric or P300ERP *** was before treatment and in 20 (33.3%) after *** sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value,negative predictive value,and diagnostic accuracy for the assessment of recovery of MHE were 65%,91%,85%,77% and 80%,***:CFF is a simple,relatively reliable,and accurate test without any dependence on age or literacy in the diagnosis and assessment of recovery of patients with MHE.

Ce-Co-doped biFeO_3 multiferroic for optoelectronic and photovoltaic applications

The Ce-Co-doped biFeO3 multiferroic, bi（1-x）Ce）xFe（1-x）CoxO3（x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.03, and 0.05）, has been prepared by a sol-gel auto-combustion method and analyzed through Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and UV-visible spectroscopy. We have observed an anomalous intensity of the second-order Raman mode at - 1260 cm^-1 in pure bFO and suppressed intensity in doped samples, which indicates the presence of spin two-phonon coupling in these *** photoluminescence spectra show reduction in the intensity of emission with the increasing dopant concentration, which indicates the high charge separation efficiency. A sharp absorption with three charge transfer（C-T） and two d-d transitions are shown by UV-visible spectra in the visible region. The band gap of biFeO3（bFO） is decreasing with increasing dopant concentrations and the materials are suitable for photovoltaic applications.
