Objective:To investigate whether ethanol extracts of Hizikia fusiforme could induce apoptosis in human prostate cancer PC3 ***:Cell viability was evaluated using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium *** and mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP)were measured using flow cytometry in PC3 *** damage was assessed by nuclear staining and DNA fragmentation *** of apoptosis-associated proteins were determined by Western blotting *** of caspase-3,-8,and-9 were determined by colorimetric ***,intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation was detected using a flow cytometer and fluorescence ***:Treatment of PC3 cells with ethanol extracts of Hizikia fusiforme inhibited proliferation,which was associated with induction of apoptosis,and accompanied by increased expression of Fas,Fas-ligand(Fas l),Bax and t Bid,and decreased expression of *** addition,ethanol extracts of Hizikia fusiforme reduced c-Flip expression and activated caspase-8,-9 and-3,resulting in an increase in poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase(PARP)***,in the presence of a pan-caspase inhibitor,ethanol extracts of Hizikia fusiforme-mediated growth inhibition and apoptosis were significantly *** extracts of Hizikia fusiforme also destroyed the integrity of mitochondria due to the loss of MMP,leading to cytosolic release of cytochrome ***,the levels of ROS were markedly increased by treatment with ethanol extracts of Hizikia fusiforme,which was significantly suppressed by the ROS scavenger *** investigation of whether ethanol extracts of Hizikia fusiforme-induced apoptosis was related to the generation of ROS was conducted and the results showed that N-acetyl-l-cysteine fully blocked ethanol extracts of Hizikia fusiforme-induced apoptotic events including loss of MMP,activation of caspase-3,the cytosolic release of cytochrome c and ***:E

Effects of edible insect extracts on the antioxidant, physiochemical, and microbial properties of Tteokgalbi during refrigerated storage

In this study,Tteokgalbi,a meat product,was prepared with edible insect larvae extracts and its antioxidant,physiochemical,and microbial properties were evaluated during refrigerated *** prepared with 2%*** and 2%*** showed the highest radical-scavenging activity and metal-chelating activity,but the lowest thiobarbituric acid reactive substance(TBARS)value,among the treatments(Plowest and the TBARS value was the highest in control Tteokgalbi(Pll storage *** prepared with 2%*** showed the highest brownness index,pH,and cooking yield,but the lowest shear force value(Pll storage days,the total aerobic bacteria level did not differ significantly among the *** conclusion,*** extracts(2%)were effective as antioxidants,inhibiting lipid oxidation,and improving the quality properties of Tteokgalbi,without negatively affecting microbial *** results confirmed that the edible insect extracts have industrial value as a food additive.

INTERDECADAl VARIATION IN THE ACTIVITY OF TROPICAl CYClONES AFFECTING KOREA

By performing a statistical change-point analysis of activities of the tropical cyclones(TCs)that have affected Korea(K-TCs),it was found that there was a signifi cant change between 1983 and *** the period of 1984-2004(P2),more TCs migrated toward the west,recurved in the southwest,and affected Korea,compared to the period of 1965-1983(P1).These changes for P2 were related to the southwestward expansion of the subtropical western Pacifi c high(SWPH)and,simultaneously,elongation of its elliptical shape toward *** of these changes,the central pressure and lifetime of K-TC during P2 were deeper and longer,respectively,than fi gures for *** stronger K-TC intensity for P2 was related to the more southwestward genesis due to the southwestward expansion of the *** weaker vertical wind shear environment during P2 was more favorable for K-TC to maintain a strong intensity in the mid-latitudes of East Asia.

TROPICAl CYClONE OCCURRENCE PROBABIlITY FORECASTING MODEl IN THE WESTERN NORTH PACIFIC

A seasonal probability prediction model for tropical cyclone(TC)genesis in the western North Pacifi c(5°-25°N,110°-180°E)was developed using a simple logistic regression *** predictors used in this model were total fi ve:850 h Pa relative vorticity,200-850 h Pa vertical wind shear,600 h Pa relative humidity,300 h Pa equivalent potential temperature,and sea surface temperature(SST).Four predictors except for SST were obtained from differences of spatial-averaged value between May and January,and time average of Ni?o-3.4 index from February to April was used to consider the SST *** a result of prediction for the TC genesis from June to December during 1951 to 2007,years that the model forecasts are 21 years among the total 28 years when the observed TC genesis frequency was higher than normal *** overall predictability was about 75%,and the model was also verifi ed statistically through cross validation analysis using a method of the hindcast.

Gelfoam embolization for distal, medium vessel injury during mechanical thrombectomy in acute stroke: A case report

BACKGROUND Arterial perforation has inevitably increased as endovascular treatments have become more common for intracranial large vessel occlusions,and even distal,medium vessel occlusions.A distal,medium vessel has a tortuous course and thinner wall compared to large arteries,making it more susceptible to ***,we review the treatment strategies for arterial perforation during mechanical thrombectomy,and we report the case of a patient treated with gelfoam *** SUMMARY A 63-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with sudden neurologic symptoms of right hemiparesis and global *** initial National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score was *** tomography(CT)and CT angiography revealed hyperacute infarction and emergent arterial occlusion of the left middle cerebral artery M2-3 *** endovascular mechanical thrombectomy,arterial rupture *** patient’s vital signs were stable,but delayed angiography showed persistent active ***,selective embolization of the injured artery was performed using *** left vertebral and internal carotid angiography was performed to confirm hemostasis.A localized subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH)was confirmed on a follow-up CT scan.A repeated CT scan after 12 d showed resolution of the SAH,and rebleeding did not *** Rescue embolization with gelfoam could be considered an additional option in distal,medium vessel perforation.

Increased risk of atrial fibrillation in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: A nationwide population-based study

BACKGROUND Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract, could play a role in the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation (AF). AIM To investigate the association between IBD and AF development. METHODS We performed a population-based cohort study using records in the Korean National Health Insurance Services database between 2010 and 2014. A total of 37696 patients with IBD (12349 with Crohn’s disease and 25397 with ulcerative colitis) were identified. The incidence rate of newly diagnosed AF in patients with IBD was compared with that in a 3 times larger cohort of 113088 age- and sex-matched controls without IBD. RESUlTS During 4.9 ± 1.3 years of follow-up, 1120 patients newly diagnosed with AF (348 in the IBD group and 772 in controls) were identified. After adjustments using multivariable Cox proportional hazards, patients with IBD were at a 36%[95% confidence interval (CI) 20%-54%] higher risk of AF than controls. The association between IBD and the development of AF was stronger in younger than in older patients. Patients without cardiovascular risk factors showed a higher risk of AF primarily. Additionally, patients receiving immun-omodulators [Hazard ration (HR) 1.46, 95%CI 1.31-1.89], systemic corticosteroids (HR 1.37, 95%CI 1.10-1.71), or biologics agents (HR 2.38, 95%CI 1.51-3.75) were at higher risk of AF than patients without them. CONClUSION IBD significantly increased the risk of AF, and the impact of IBD on developing AF was in patients with moderate to severe disease.

EXPERIMENTAl AND NUMERICAl INVESTIGATION OF BUBBlE AUGMENTED WATERJET PROPUlSION

This contribution presents experimental and numerical investigations of the concept jet propulsion augmentation using bubble injection. A half-3D （D-shaped cylindrical configuration to enable optimal visualizations） divergent-convergent nozzle was designed, built, and used for extensive experiments under different air injection conditions and thrust measurement schemes. The design, optimization, and analysis were conducted using numerical simulations. The more advanced model was based on a two-way coupling between an Eulerian description of the flow field and a lagrangian tracking of the injected bubbles using our Surface Averaged Pressure （SAP） model. The numerical results compare very favorably with nozzle experiments and both experiments and simulations validation the thrust augmentation concept. For a properly designed nozzle and air injection system, air injection produces net thrust augmentation, which increases with the rate of bubble injection. Doubling of thrust was measured for a 50% air injection rate. This beneficial effect remains at 50% after account for liquid pump additional work to overcome increased pressure by air injection.

Augmented Reality for Realistic Simulation Using Improved Snake and Picking Algorithm by Proportional Relational Expression

In realistic simulation of mobile Augmented Reality, essential point is how to best depict occluded area in such a way that the user can correctly infer the depth relationships between real and virtual objects. However, if the constructed 3D map of real world is not accurate or the density is not sufficient to estimate the object boundary, it is very difficult to determine the occluded area. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a new method for calculating the occlusion area using the improved snake algorithm and picking algo-rithm by the proportional relational expression. First, we generated the wireframe by the DEM in the experimental region and mapped to CCD real image using visual clues. And then, we calculated the 3D information at the point where occlusion problem for a moving virtual target by the proposed method. Experimental results show the validity of the proposed approach under the environment in which partial occlusions occur.

On Rayleigh expansion for nonlinear long water waves

We consider strongly nonlinear long waves on the surface of a homogeneous fluid *** modifying the formulation for the high-order spectral(HOS)method for waves in water of finite depth,we present a higher-order nonlinear system for the surface elevation and the velocity potential on the free surface to describe the two-dimensional evolution of large amplitude long *** is shown that the resulting system preserves the Hamiltonian structure of the Euler equations and can be transformed to the strongly nonlinear long-wave model for the depth-averaged *** to truncation of the linear dispersion relation for water waves,both the system for the surface velocity potential and that for the depth-averaged velocity are ill-posed when the order of approximation is odd and even,*** avoid this ill-posedness,fully dispersive models are also *** the same order approximation,the long-wave model is found more effective for numeral studies of large amplitude long waves than the finite-depth model.
