Elucidation of regulatory interaction networks underlying human prostate adenocarcinoma

The incidence of prostate cancer is rising in the Asia-Pacific region as well as other countries. Androgen-ablation therapy is clinically useful in the androgen-dependent phenotype however, many patients progress to hormone refractory prostate cancer that is difficult to treat and needs newer interventions that are more effective. The objective of this study was to determine functionally-relevant biological networks, to appreciate the potential crosstalk between signaling members, and to identify biomarker signatures in prostate cancer. We used microarray analyses to identify key genes that were upregulated or down regulated at least five-fold in human prostate cancer and constructed canonical interaction networks that are important in prostate cancer through metabolomics analyses. Our prostate cancer network architecture revealed several key biomarkers including ERK1/2, JNK, p38, MEK, PI3 K, NFκB, AP-1, 14-3-3, VEGF, PDGF, Rb, WNT8 A, WNT10 A, CD44, ESR2, FSH and LH. Furthermore, the top ten transcription factors identified by TFBS-association signature analysis in the regulatory elements of co-regulated biomarkers were delineated, which may crosstalk with upstream or downstream genes elicited in our network architecture. Taken together, our results demonstrate that the regulatory interaction networks in prostate cancer provide a universal view of crosstalk between important biomarkers, i.e., key players in the pathogenesis of this disease. This will facilitate more rapid screening of functional biomarkers in early/intermediate drug discovery.

A novel supported liquid phase film catalyst: Supported PdCl2-(n-C4H9),N+Cl- molten salts was found to be an effective catalyst with good stability for selective hydrodechlorination of CCl2F2 (CFC-12) to its alternatives ch2F2 and chClF2. Addition of CoCl2, GaCl3 and CuCl2 to PdCl2-(n-C4H9),N+Cl- modifies the catalytic performance of supported molten salts.

Autothermal Reforming of Methane over Ni Catalysts Supported on CuO-ZrO_2-CeO_2-Al_2O_3

Ni catalysts supported on various mixed oxides of Al2O3 with rare earth oxide and transitional metal oxides were synthesized. The studies focused on the measurement of the autothermal reforming of methane to hydrogen over Ni catalysts supported on the mixed oxide ZrxCe30-xAl70Oδ （x-=5, 10, 15）. The catalytic performance of Ni/Zr10Ce20Al70Oδ was better than that of other catalysts. XRD results showed that the addition of Zr to Ni/Ce30Al70Oδ prevented the formation of NiAl2O4 and facilitated the dispersion of NiO. Effects of CuO addition to Zr10Ce20Al70Oδ were also investigated. The activity of Ni catalyst supported on CuO-ZrO2-CeO2-Al2O3 was somewhat affected and the Ni/Cu5Zr10Ce20Al65Oδ showed the best catalytic performance with the highest ch4 conversion, yield of H2, selectivity for H2 and H2/CO production ratio in operation temperatures ranging from 650 to 750 ℃.

Decomposition and Products of Wheat and Rice Straw from a FACE Experiment Under Flooded Conditions

Winter wheat and rice straw produced under ambient and elevated CO2 in a china rice-wheat rotation free-air CO2 enrichment （FACE） experiment was mixed with a paddy soil at a rate of 10 g kg^-1 （air-dried）, and the mixture was incubated under flooded conditions at 25℃ to examine the differences in decomposition as well as the products of crop residues produced under elevated CO2. Results showed that the C/N ratio and the amount of soluble fraction in the amended rice straw grown under elevated CO2 （FR） were 9.8% and 73.1% greater, and the cellulose and lignin were 16.0% and 9.9% lesser than those of the amended rice straw grown under ambient CO2 （AR）, respectively. Compared with those of the AR treatment, the CO2-C and ch4-C emissions in the FR treatment for 25 d were increased by 7.9% and 25.0%, respectively; a higher ratio of ch4 to CO2 emissions induced by straw in the FR treatment was also observed. In contrast, in the treatments with winter wheat straw, the CO2-C and ch4-C emissions, the ratio of straw-induced ch4 to CO2 emissions, and the straw composition were not significantly affected by elevated CO2, except for an 8.0% decrease in total N and a 9.7% increase in C/N ratio in the wheat straw grown under elevated CO2. Correlation analysis showed that the net CO2-C and ch4-C emission from straw and the ratio of straw-induced ch4 to CO2 emissions were all exponentially related to the amount of soluble fraction in the amended straw （P 〈0.05）. These indicated that under flooded conditions, the turnover and ch4 emission from crop straw incorporated into soil were dependent on the effect of elevated CO2 on straw composition, and varied with crop species. Incorporation of rice straw grown under elevated CO2 would stimulate ch4 emission from flooded rice fields, whereas winter wheat straw grown under elevated CO2 had no effect on ch4 emission.

chlorobenzenes in waterweeds from the Xijiang River (Guangdong section) of the Pearl River

The Xijiang River is the major source of water for about 4.5 millions of urban population and 28.7 millions of rural population. The water quality is very important for the health of the rural population. The concentration and distribution of chlorobenzenes （CBs） in both water and waterweeds collected from 4 stations in the Xijiang River （Gangdong section） of the Pearl River in April and November were determined. The result showed that nearly every congener of CBs was detected. The total contents of CBs （ZCBs） in the river water ranged from 111.1 to 360.0 ng/L in April and from 151.9 to 481.7 ng/L in November, respectively. The pollution level of CBs in the water in April was higher than that in November. The contents of ZCBs in waterweeds ranged from 13.53×10^2μg/g to 38.27×10^2μg/g dry weight （dw）. There was no significant difference between April and November in waterweeds. The distribution of CBs in roots, caulis, and leaves of Vallisneria spiralis L. showed different patterns. The leaves mainly contained low-molecular-weight CBs （DCBs）, whereas the roots accumulated more PCBs and HCBs. The average lgBCFlip （bioconcentration factor） of CBs ranged from 0.64 to 3.57 in the waterweeds. The spatial distribution character of CBs in the Xijiang River was： Fengkai County 〈 Yunan County 〈 Yun＇an County 〈 Gaoyao County according to the ZCBs, and the pollution deteriorated from the upstream to the downstream of the Xijiang River. Further analysis demonstrated that the discharge of waste containing CBs may be the main source of CBs pollution in the Xijiang River .

A series of novel cis poly(phenylacetylene)s(PPAs)substituted at meta-position(s)by two alkoxycarbonyl pendants,Le.,sP-Me-C8/rP-Me-C8,P-Me-C12,sP-Et-C4,sP-2C4 and sP-Oct-C4,were synthesized under the catalysis of[Rh(nbd)Cl]2(nbd=norbornadiene).The dependence of elongation,screw sense,and stimuli response of helical polyene backbone on the structure of pendant,solvent,and temperature was systematically investigated in both solution and solid *** of n→π*interaction between vicinal carbonyl groups,sP-Me-C8/rP-Me-C8 could adopt contracted cis-cisoid helix in THF,toluene,ch2Cl2,and *** an intramolecular interaction was sensitive to the hydrogen bond donating ability of solvent and temperature,but insensitive to the dielectric constant and polarity of *** poly(3-methoxycarbonyl-5-alkoxycarbonylphenylacetylene),the longer the chiral alkyl chain was,the easier the stable cis-cisoid helix could be ***,when the methoxycarbonyl was changed to ethoxycarbonyl,sec-butyloxycarbonyl,and octyloxycarbonyl pendant groups,only cistransoid helix was obtained at room temperature due to the increased steric ***,lowering temperature was found to facilitate the stabilization of n→π*interactions,and reversible temperature-dependent stereomutations were achieved in sP-Me-C8 and sP-Et-C4depending on the solvent where they were *** results suggested that the long alkyl chain,small pendant size,and lower temperature favored the stabilization of intramolecular n→π*interactions and the formation of contracted,cis-cisoid helices for poly(3,5-diestersubstituted phenylacetylene)s.

Index allocation for a reusable LOX/ch4 rocket engine

Reusable rocket engines are the core components of reusable launch vehicles, and have thus become a major focus of aerospace engineering research in recent years. In practice, subsystem design is based on the overall index allocation of an engine;therefore, a multidisciplinary optimization approach is necessary. In this study, design of a reusable methane/liquid oxygen(LOX/ch4)rocket engine with a gas generator cycle was investigated using multidisciplinary optimization. Two parameters were chosen as design variables: pressure and fuel mix ratio of the main combustion chamber. Optimization objectives were specific impulse, structural mass, and life cycle cost of the reusable rocket engine, and constraints were assigned to each discipline according to rocket design requirements. Then, an optimization model was developed, and optimal design parameters were acquired for the LOX/ch4 rocket engine. The proposed method is effective for designing the index allocation of reusable rocket engines and takes into account the multidisciplinary nature of complex systems.

A series of lithium and aluminum complexes bearing [OC(But)chP(Ph2)=NBut]-ligand were synthesized and characterized. Reaction of ButC(O)ch2Br with Ph2PNHBut afforded [Ph2P(NHBut)ch2C(O)But]+Br-(1). Treatment of 1 with excess of NaH in THF generated ligand precursor Ph2P(ch2C(O)But)=NBut (2). Reaction of 2 with AlR3 (R = Me,Et) gave N,O-chelate aluminum complexes [R2Al{OC(But)chP(Ph2)=NBut}] (3,R = Me; 4,R = Et). Lithiation of 2 with an equiv. of LiBun formed lithium complex [Li{OC(But)chP(Ph2)=NBut}] (5). Reaction of the lithium complex with an equiv. of AlCl3 yielded [Cl2Al{OC(But) chP(Ph2)=NBut}] (6). Complex 6 was also obtained by reaction of 3 with an equiv. of AlCl3. Compounds 2-6 were characterized by NMR spectroscopy,elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques (for 2,3 and 6). Catalysis of complexes 3 and 4 as well as [Me2Al{1-{OC(Ph)ch}-3-R1-5-MeC3HN2}] (R1 = Me,But) toward the ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone was investigated.
