Background Stroke after acute coronary syndrome(ACS)can be *** is uncertain whether the risks of ischaemic stroke or intracranial haemorrhage(Ich)are associated with different choices of P2Y12 inhibitors(potent P2Y12 inhibitors such as ticagrelor and prasugrel vs clopidogrel).Even though East Asians are known to have different thrombotic and haemorrhagic profiles from Caucasians,data on chinese patients are *** This was a retrospective cohort study conducting in chinese patients with ACS who underwent first-ever percutaneous coronary intervention from 14 hospitals in Hong Kong between 2010 and *** primary efficacy endpoint was ischaemic *** secondary efficacy endpoint was a composite outcome of thrombotic events including all-cause mortality,non-fatal myocardial infarction and ischaemic *** primary safety endpoint was *** secondary safety endpoint was a composite of major bleeding *** After adjustment of baseline characteristics by 1:1 propensity score match.ng,a total of 6220 patients(3110 on each group)were *** with clopidogrel,potent P2Y12 inhibitors were associated with a lower risk of ischaemic stroke(HR 0.57;95%CI 0.37 to 0.87;p=0.008)and a lower risk of thrombotic events(HR 0.77;95%CI 0.66 to 0.90;p=0.001).Potent P2Y12 inhibitor was associated with similar risk of Ich(HR 0.65;95%CI 0.34 to 1.25,p=0.20)and major bleeding(HR 0.83;95%CI 0.68 to 1.01,p=0.069).Conclusions Potent P2Y12 inhibitors were associated with a lower adjusted risk of ischaemic stroke and thrombotic events,compared with *** risks of Ich and major bleeding were similar.

Multi-limb necrotizing fasciitis in a patient with rectal cancer

Necrotizing fasciitis is a devastating soft tissue infection affecting fascias and subcutaneous soft tissues. Literature reviews have identified several related risk factors, including malignancy, alcoholism, malnutrition, diabetes, male gender and old age. There are only scanty case reports in the literature describing its rare association with colorectal malignancy. All published cases are attributed to bowel perforation resulting in necrotizing fasciitis over the perineal region. Isolated upper or lower limb diseases are rarely identified. Simultaneous upper and lower limb infection in colorectal cancer patients has never been described in the literature. We report an unusual case of multi-limb necrotizing fasciitis in a patient with underlying non-perforated rectal carcinoma.

Structure and species composition of tree stands on verges and slopes along a major highway in Hong Kong

Arboricultural research focusing on transport land use was lacking in Hong *** highway slopes were registered in the Systematic Identification of Maintenance Responsibility of Slopes in the Territory(SIMAR),abbreviated as SIMAR *** aimed to analyze patterns in the structure and species composition of the tree stock along a highway in Hong Kong and examined how a slope registration system could help explain the characteristics of urban *** 53 slopes and 52 verges along San Tin Highway,Hong Kong were randomly *** trees on each slope and verge were collectively sampled as a tree *** variables,namely tree abundance,species richness,maximum tree height,Shannon-Wiener diversity,Simpson's dominance,and Pielou's evenness were measured for each *** addition,a limited visual tree risk assessment was *** 7,209 trees in 23 species were *** richness was low,ranging from one to eight species per *** and non-SIMAR slopes were *** slopes had significantly higher species richness,diversity,evenness but lower dominance,with mean difference of 1.41 species,0.17,0.17 *** slopes were associated with lower tree risk *** training regression models,boosting as an ensemble method arbitrarily raised the explanatory power and the predictive accuracy of some *** height,length,angle and area could be significant predictors of the biodiversity-related *** research can sample more habitat characteristics related to the structure and species composition of slopes and verges which were important components of urban forestry.

Clinicopathological survey of 23 patients with lacrimal fossa lesions in Hong Kong

AIM: To survey the clinicopathological correlations of lacrimal fossa lesions in the Hong Kong population. METHODS: A total of 23 patients with lacrimal fossa lesions were identified radiologically. The mean age at the time of diagnosis was 52 year-old. The medical records of patients diagnosed with lacrimal fossa lesions and subsequently underwent radiological investigations were collected and reviewed retrospectively throughout a six years period from 2000 to 2006 from three regional hospitals (Tung wah Eastern Hospital, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and Queen Mary Hospital) belonging to the Hong Kong Mega Cluster. Patient demographics, presenting signs and symptoms, imaging modalities, pathological reports and subsequent management were recorded. RESULTS: The most common initial presenting symptom was upper lid swelling (83%) followed by proptosis (13%). 19 patients (83%) had benign lacrimal fossa lesion and 4 patients (17%) had malignancy. Three of the malignancies were lymphomas and one was adenoid cystic carcinoma. CONCLUSION: Age is an important factor in considering the differential diagnosis of lacrimal fossa lesion. Lymphoproliferative diseases have the highest incidence in patients over 60 years of age while inflammatory lesions are more common in younger patients in Hong Kong.

Idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome （HES） is a heterogeneous disorder characterized by hypereosinophilia and organ damage which affects men more commonly than women （9：1）. The disease can be detected incidentally, but more often presents either insidiously or acutely with cardiac, neurological, cutaneous, pulmonary or gastro- intestinal manifestations, with cardiac involvement being a major cause of morbidity and morality in patients. 1.2 Although a major mechanism of tissue damage in HES is due to thromboembolism,3 fullblown disseminated intravascular coagulation （DIC） is apparently rare. This paper describes a man who presented acutely with life-threatening DIC complicating HES and its management, the first chinese case reported in the literature.

New procedure to generate multipliers in complex Neumann problem and effective Kohn algorithm

The purpose of this paper is threefold.(i) To explain the effective Kohn algorithm for multipliers in the complex Neumann problem and its difference with the full-real-radical Kohn algorithm, especially in the context of an example of Catlin-D'Angelo concerning the ineffectiveness of the latter.(ii) To extend the techniques of multiplier ideal sheaves for the complex Neumann problem to general systems of partial differential equations.(iii) To present a new procedure of generation of multipliers in the complex Neumann problem as a special case of the multiplier ideal sheaves techniques for general systems of partial differential equations.
