Heavy metal pollution of river water and eco-friendly remediation using potent microalgal species

Pollution of rivers is mainly caused by anthropogenic activities such as discharge of effluent from industrial facilities,maintenance of sewage/effluent treatment plants,and dumping of solid waste on river *** study dealt with the pollution issues of the Cooum River in the well-known city of chennai in South *** samples from 27 locations were collected and analyzed for 12 elements,including Ba,B,and Al,as well as heavy metals such as Pb,Cr,Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,Cu,Zn,and *** samples showed levels of these elements that exceeded World Health Organization *** correlation analysis revealed the inter-dependency among elements,and the contribution of each element based on factor loadings showed its percentage contribution compared to *** samples from six significant locations were chosen for remediation with three algae:chlorella vulgaris,Scenedesmus dimorphus,and Phormedium *** uptake of pollutants led to the continuous growth of algae during the incubation period of 15 d,effectively removing heavy metals from the river *** increasing levels of algal counts and the chlorophyll a content confirmed the algal growth during the incubation period,followed by a declining stage after the incubation *** scanning electron microscopic images of algae before and after the remediation showed no remarkable modification of morphological *** study showed that the uptake of heavy metals using algae is an effective water pollution remediation measure,making the process practicable in the field on a large scale in the near future.

A universal vaccine is in high demand to address the uncertainties of antigenic drift and the reduced effectiveness of current influenza *** this study,a strategy called computationally optimized broadly reactive antigen(COBRA)was used to generate a consensus sequence of the hemagglutinin globular head portion(HA1)of influenza virus samples collected from 1918 to 2021 to trace evolutionary changes and incorporate them into the designed *** carrying different HA1regions were delivered into eukaryotic cells by Salmonella-mediated bactofection using a Semliki Forest virus RNA-dependent RNApolymerase(RdRp)-based eukaryotic expression system,*** protein expression was confirmed by Western blot and immunofluorescence *** immunized with the designed constructs produced a humoral response,with a significant increase in immunoglobulin G(IgG)levels,and a cell-mediated immune response,including a 1.5-fold increase in CD4^(+) and CD8^(+)T ***,constructs #1 and #5 increased the production of interferon-γ(IFN-γ)producing CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)T cells,skewing the response toward the T helper type 1 cell(Th1)***,interleukin-4(IL-4)-producing T cells were upregulated *** efficacy was demonstrated,with up to 4-fold higher production of neutralizing antibodies and a hemagglutination inhibition titer>40 against the selected viral *** designed constructs conferred a broadly protective immune response,resulting in a notable reduction in viral titer and minimal inflammation in the lungs of mice challenged with the influenza A/PR8/34,A/Brisbane/59/2007,A/California/07/2009,KBPV VR-92,and NCCP 43021 *** discovery revolutionizes influenza vaccine design and delivery;Salmonella-mediated COBRA-HA1 is a highly effective in vivo antigen presentation *** approach can effectively combat seasonal H1N1 influenza strains and potential pandemic outbreaks.

Electron beam evaporated gold doped tungsten oxide nanostructured films for sensor applications

Substrate Temperature Dependent Properties of Cu Doped NiO Films Deposited by DC Reactive Magnetron Sputtering

The NiO-Cu composite films were deposited on a glass substrate at various substrate temperatures by DC reactive magnetron sputtering technique. The effect of substrate temperature on the structural, optical, morphological and electrical properties of the films was mainly investigated. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that when the substrate temperature increased to above 200 ℃, the preferred orientation tended to move to another preferred site from （220） to （111） and had a band gap values increased with increasing substrate observed that the grain size and root mean square stable cubic structure. The optical transmittance and temperature. From the morphological studies, it was roughness were increased with increasing substrate temperature. The electrical resistivity of the film decreased to 0.017 Ωcm at high substrate temperature of 400 ℃.

In the current work,forsterite samples with different surface area were investigated for its antibacterial *** studies show that the lower degradation of forsterite compared to other silicate bioceramics,which is a desirable property for repairing bone *** scaffold shows superior compressive strength than the cortical bone after immersion in simulated body *** tests indicate that the forsterite had inhibition effect on the growth of clinical bacterial *** may be a suitable candidate material for load bearing applications with enhanced mechanical properties and lower degradation rate.

Outcome of severe acute pancreatitis: Is there a role for conservative management of infected pancreatic necrosis?

BACKGROUND: Infected pancreatic necrosis is associated with high morbidity and mortality and is mandatory for surgical or radiological intervention. A selected group of patients with CT evidence of infected pancreatic necrosis and a comparatively lower APAchE score may be clinically stable throughout the course of their illness. METHODS: Case records of 52 patients with severe acute pancreatitis admitted from October 2000 to September 2005 were retrospectively analysed to assess the feasibility of conservative management of infected pancreatic necrosis. CT evidence of retroperitoneal air pockets, deteriorated clinical condition, sepsis and positive blood culture were used to diagnose infected pancreatic necrosis. RESULTS: In the 52 male patients reviewed, 24 patients had infected pancreatic necrosis. Eighteen patients who had progressively deteriorated clinical conditions required surgical intervention; five patients of whom (27.8%) died. Six patients with transient end organ dysfunction and stable clinical conditions were treated with prolonged administration of antibiotics and ICU support. All these patients recovered and discharged from the hospital, and no symptoms or readmission happened during follow-up of 6-44 months. CONCLUSIONS: Selected patients with infected pancreatic necrosis who are clinically stable with transient end organ dysfunction can be treated conservatively with a favourable outcome. Necrosectomy associated with high morbidityand mortality in these patients can be avoided. The need for intervention should be individualized and based on clinical conditions of the patients.

We reported solvent-free and recoverable heterogeneous iron functionalised imidazolium-based ionic liquid for the reduction of nitroarene derivatives in the presence of formic acid under greener ***,the experimental result shows that the iron complex could be an extremely resourceful,high rate and reusable catalyst for a different nitroarene substrate.
