Solution to the quadratic assignment problem usingsemi-Lagrangian relaxation

The semi-Lagrangian relaxation （SLR）, a new exactmethod for combinatorial optimization problems with equality constraints,is applied to the quadratic assignment problem （QAP）.A dual ascent algorithm with finite convergence is developed forsolving the semi-Lagrangian dual problem associated to the QAP.We perform computational experiments on 30 moderately difficultQAP instances by using the mixed integer programming solvers,Cplex, and SLR＋Cplex, respectively. The numerical results notonly further illustrate that the SLR and the developed dual ascentalgorithm can be used to solve the QAP reasonably, but also disclosean interesting fact： comparing with solving the unreducedproblem, the reduced oracle problem cannot be always effectivelysolved by using Cplex in terms of the CPU time.

Acute renal injury after partial hepatectomy

Currently, partial hepatectomy is the treatment of choice for a wide variety of liver and biliary conditions. Among the possible complications of partial hepatectomy, acute kidney injury(AKI) should be considered as an important cause of increased morbidity and postoperative mortality. Difficulties in the data analysis related to postoperative AKI after liver resections are mainly due to the multiplicity of factors to be considered in the surgical patients, moreover, there is no consensus of the exact definition of AKI after liver resection in the literature, which hampers comparison and analysis of the scarce data published on the subject. Despite this multiplicity of risk factors for postoperative AKI after partial hepatectomy, there are main factors that clearly contribute to its occurrence. First factor relates to large blood losses with renal hypoperfusion during the operation, second factor relates to the occurrence of post-hepatectomy liver failure with consequent distributive circulatory changes and hepatorenal syndrome. Eventually, patients can have more than one factor contributing to post-operative AKI, and frequently these combinations of acute insults can be aggravated by sepsis or exposure to nephrotoxic drugs.

Validity of automated refraction after segmented refractive multifocal intraocular lens implantation

AIM： To evaluate the clinical utility of automated refraction（AR） and keratometry（KR） compared with subjective or manifest refraction（MR） after cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery with implantation of Lentis Mplus X（Oculentis GmbH） refractive multifocal intraocular lens（IOL）.METHODS： Eighty-six eyes implanted with the Lentis Mplus X multifocal IOL were included. MR was performed in all patients followed by three consecutive AR measurements using the Topcon KR-8000 autorefractor. Assessment of repeatability of consecutive AR before and after dilation with phenylephrine 10%, and comparison of the AR and KR with MR using vector analysis were performed at 3 mo follow-up.RESULTS： Analysis showed excellent repeatability of the AR measurements. Linear regression of AR versus MR showed good correlation for sphere and spherical equivalent, whereas the correlation for astigmatism was low. The mean difference AR-MR was-1.28±0.29 diopters（D） for sphere. Astigmatism showed better correlation between KR and MR. CONCLUSION： We suggest AR sphere plus 1.25 D and the KR cylinder as the starting point for MR in eyes with a Lentis Mplus X multifocal IOL. If AR measurements are equal to MR, decentration of the IOL should be suspected.

Fully formulated lean NOx trap(LNT)catalysts of the type Pt/Rh/BaO/Al2O3 were prepared with and without incorporation of CeO2-ZrO2 in the washcoat,and their NOx reduction behavior was evaluated in steady-state,continuous flow experiments.In the fresh state, the CeO2-ZrO2 addition was found to exert little effect on NOx reduction activity using H2,CO,and NH3 as the reductants.However,after simulated road aging,NOx reduction activity was significantly impaired for the CeO2-ZrO2-free catalyst,whereas the performance of the CeO2-ZrO2-containing analog was affected to only a minor degree.These differences are explained on the basis of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy measurements showing that Pt supported on CeO2-ZrO2 remained highly dispersed after aging,whereas Pt supported on BaO/Al2O3 underwent significant sintering.In addition,the Pt/CeO2-ZrO2 component did not accumulate sulfur during aging, unlike Pt/BaO/Al2O3 for which significant sulfation of the Ba phase occurred.For both catalysts,selectivity to NH3 in NO and NO2 reduction by H2 increased after the catalyst aging,indicative of a change in the relative surface coverages of N and H ad-atoms on the precious metal sites.

Analysis of three-dimensional vortexes below the free surface in a continuous casting mold

To study fluctuations of the free surface of liquid steel in the mold,two different models with the same casting conditions but different thicknesses were employed to analyze the hydrodynamic behavior at the top of the mold.The first model was a standard thickness slab,and the second had a thickness three times wider.It is found with the second model that above the plane formed by the steel jets,it is possible to observe four three-dimensional vortexes that interact with the submerged entry nozzle（SEN）and mold walls.By using a biphasic model to simulate the interface between the liquid and air inside the mold,the flow asymmetry and the fluctuations of the free surface can be clearly observed.

Review of barriers and interventions to promote treatment engagement for pediatric attention deficit hyperactivity disorder care

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)is a common and impairing behavioral health disorder,impacting over 5%of children worldwide.There are multiple evidence-based pharmacological and psychosocial treatments for ADHD,and greater service utilization is associated with improved acute and long-term outcomes.However,long-term outcomes are suboptimal as multimodal treatments are often not accessed and most care ends prematurely.This narrative review discusses barriers to engagement for children and adolescents with ADHD and their families as well as interventions to overcome these barriers.Families face a variety of structural and attitudinal barriers,ranging from cost and access to stigma and low self-efficacy to successfully implement change.There are multiple interventions that may enhance engagement with ADHD care including psychoeducation,integration of behavioral services in general medical settings,telehealth as well as specific adaptations to existing ADHD treatments,such as the use of motivational interviewing or shared decision making.Integration of behavioral health into general medical settings and telehealth have been found in controlled studies to increase access by reducing both structural and attitudinal barriers.Adding motivational interviewing,shared decision making and other engagement interventions to evidence-based ADHD treatments has been found to reduce attitudinal barriers that translates into improved participation and satisfaction while enhancing outcomes.However,little is known about how to promote extended engagement with ADHD services even though a chronic care model for ADHD is recommended.

Fast-tracking regenerative medicine for traumatic brain injury

Traumatic brain injury remains a global health crisis that spans all demographics,yet there exist limited treatment options that may effectively curtail its lingering symptoms.Traumatic brain injury pathology entails a progression from primary injury to inflammation-mediated secondary cell death.Sequestering this inflammation as a means of ameliorating the greater symptomology of traumatic brain injury has emerged as an attractive treatment prospect.In this review,we recapitulate and evaluate the important developments relating to regulating traumatic brain injury-induced neuroinflammation,edema,and blood-brain barrier disintegration through pharmacotherapy and stem cell transplants.Although these studies of stand-alone treatments have yielded some positive results,more therapeutic outcomes have been documented from the promising area of combined drug and stem cell therapy.Harnessing the facilitatory properties of certain pharmaceuticals with the anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects of stem cell transplants creates a synergistic effect greater than the sum of its parts.The burgeoning evidence in favor of combined drug and stem cell therapies warrants more elaborate preclinical studies on this topic in order to pave the way for later clinical trials.

Minimally invasive tenodesis for peroneus longus tendon rupture: A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND Peroneal tendon disorders are common causes of lateral hindfoot pain.However,total rupture of the peroneal longus tendon is rare.Surgical treatment for this condition is usually a side-to-side tenodesis of the peroneal longus tendon to the peroneal brevis tendon.While the traditional procedure involves a long lateral curved incision,this approach is associated with damage to the lateral soft tissues(up to 24%incidence).CASE SUMMARY A 50-year-old female had developed pain at the lateral aspect of the hindfoot 1 mo after an ankle sprain while walking in the street.Previous treatments were anti-inflammatory drugs,ice,rest and Cam-walker boot.At physical exam,there was pain and swelling over the course of the peroneal tendons.Ankle instability and cavovarus foot deformity were ruled out.Eversion strength was weak(4/5).Imaging showed complete rupture of the peroneal longus tendon associated with a sharp hypertrophic peroneal tubercle.Surgical repair was indicated after failure of conservative treatment(physiotherapy,rest,analgesics,and ankle stabilizer).A less invasive approach was performed for peroneal longus tendon debridement and side-to-side tenodesis to the adjacent peroneal brevis tendon,with successful clinical and functional outcomes.CONCLUSION Peroneus longus tendon tenodesis can be performed through a less invasive approach with preservation of the lateral soft tissue integrity.
