The objective of this study was to isolate entomopathogenic fungus from fleas (Ctenocephalides canis Curtis) collected from Cannis familiaris specimens. From 60 collected fleas, two dead insects presented white mycelia growth on the body surface, changing to a creamy color as time passed;the insects presented a mummified aspect, typical characteristic caused by entomopathogenic fungus. This fungus was identified as Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo-Crivelli) Vuillemin by their mycelia characteristics, macro- and micro-morphology. Up to our knowledge, this is the first report of entomopathogenic fungus isolated from adult C. canis fleas.

This study was performed to support an expeditionary team of Colombian scientists seeking to promote and undertake research in various scientific fields in Antarctica.The work was part of the Colombian Antarctic Program,which comprises various projects intended to lead to a permanent Colombian scientific base being established in the Antarctic.The first step involved installing a Colombian-made wind turbine to produce electricity at a permanent base.The aeolian turbine was designed to provide sufficient electricity to illuminate and heat a small base.The turbine was constructed using readily accessible materials but taking the Madrid Protocol environmental regulations into consideration.The project was performed at the Argentinian Antarctic Marambio Station on Seymour Island,off the Antarctic Peninsula.An initial field study performed in 2015 was the first of three phases of the project.In the initial phase,local meteorological data were gathered to support development of a prototype turbine and to allow a design to be selected that was robust enough for the extreme environmental conditions.The wind turbine was then constructed in Colombia.The second phase involved transporting the turbine to Antarctica and installing it at the Marambio Station in 2018.Finally,the physical conditions of structural and electronic components of the turbine were carefully inspected at the beginning of 2020(after the turbine had operated continually for^2 years)to allow repairs to be made and any necessary re-engineering to be performed.

台湾地区与中国大陆隔海相望,海上运输是两岸间货物往来的最主要方式。受国际政治和贸易模式的影响,从19世纪中后期以来,两岸港口运输联系变化剧烈。利用劳合社(Lloyd's)1895-2016年两岸港口间航线的O-D数据,从国家层面和全球层面研究海峡两岸港口运输联系的变化。主要结论为:(1)近代开埠至割让给日本之前,台湾地区与大陆的海运联系紧密,厦门港是台湾地区最重要的中转港;日据之后,台湾地区成为日本的原料来源地和商品销售地,台湾地区—日本—中国大陆形成三角运输联系;两岸对峙后,两岸港口运输联系切断,台湾地区—美国—日本形成三角贸易网络;1979年后,香港港成为两岸运输联系的最重要中转港,两岸直航后,台湾地区与大陆间的港口运输联系在广度和深度上不断拓展。(2)台湾地区区位优势明显,但由于是海岛,陆向腹地狭小,因此充分利用区位优势和地缘优势,把区域经济增长中心作为自身的海向腹地,以形成紧密的海上运输联系是台湾地区经济持续发展的关键。改善与中国大陆之间的关系、分享中国大陆发展的机遇、推动海峡两岸的港口运输联系是台湾地区的"天时"与"人和"。

Multidrug resistance(MDR) remains a major clinical obstacle to successful cancer treatment.Although diverse mechanisms of MDR have been well elucidated, such as dysregulation of drugs transporters, defects of apoptosis and autophagy machinery, alterations of drug metabolism and drug targets, disrupti on of redox homeostasis, the exact mechanisms of MDR in a specific cancer patient and the cross-talk among these different mechanisms and how they are regulated are poorly understood.Micro RNAs(mi RNAs) are a new class of small noncoding RNAs that could control the global activity of the cell by post-transcriptionally regulating a large variety of target genes and proteins expression.Accumulating evidence shows that mi RNAs play a key regulatory role in MDR through modulating various drug resistant mechanisms mentioned above, thereby holding much promise for developing novel and more effective individualized therapies for cancer treatment. This review summarizes the various MDR mechanisms and mainly focuses on the role of mi RNAs in regulating MDR in cancer treatment.

We discuss here essential aspects of the experimental supercapacitors characterization by a series of well-known electrochemical methods.We are motivated by a considerable number of publications that misreport procedures and results.Authors often conceal or neglect essential information about the electrochemical analytical apparatus used and its configuration.The lack of such information may lead researchers,especially inexperienced ones,to misunderstand the procedures and results.Eventually,the misled electrochemical equipment configuration favors misinterpretation of data and low reproducibility rates.This paper aims to highlight these issues and clarify them.We explain fundamental concepts of some electrochemical analytical methods,such as cyclic voltammetry,galvanostatic charge-discharge,single potential step chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy,focusing on the supercapacitor field.Distinct configurations of electrical parameters are presented and discussed to highlight the effects of incorrect setup and uncover misleading results.We discuss how the electrochemical setup and data analyses matter in reliable data results for the supercapacitor.

We have created a risk-benefit analysis(RBA)model to assist in food safety decision-making by analyzing Salmonella control in Brazilian chicken meat.First,we described the issues in a risk profile and used a 5x5 matrix to rank the risks associated with Salmonella.We then classified the magnitude of benefits and costs of control measures using another matrix.Finally,we verified the beneficial effects of recommended control measures using Quantitative Microbiological Risk Assessment(QMRA).The RBA classified Salmonella contamination as risk 6,indicating that control measures should be taken in the short and medium terms.It also recommended the adoption of biosecurity measures on farms to reduce the prevalence of Salmonella in birds,better control of carcass washings and chiller tank management,and information placement on packages and campaigns to raise the awareness of the population about the need to control Salmonella contamination before consumption.On the other hand,it did not recommend better controls at scalding and defeathering.QMRA confirmed the beneficial effects of the recommended control measures.For example,as Salmonella prevalence in poultry increased from 4.04 per cent to 50 per cent,the risk of infection per serving also increased from 0.0080 to 0.071.Although better controls in washings and chiller tank management did not affect the risk of infection,it reduced Salmonella counts on carcasses.We assume that the presence of Salmonella on carcasses was due to improper thermal processing or cross-contamination,which increased the risk from 0.0080 to 0.015962.The RBA demonstrated the logic involved in the adoption of control measures,and this can be helpful in the risk management of food safety issues.

This study examines the impact of China’s public health insurance program on the farm employment decisions of the rural population.Using a difference-in-differences(DID)model,this study indicates that the public health insurance reform led to reallocation of the rural labor force out of the farm sector by reducing the farm employment and increasing the likelihood of rural residents working in both the farm and nonfarm sectors.This research finds that rural female residents who are of a younger age and in better health were more likely to leave farm employment when covered by public health insurance.Suggestive evidence also finds that such public health insurance reform increased the individual income of the farm population.

Diabetes mellitus control in Mexico is practiced by using antidiabetic agents and, by empirical way using medicinal plants. Cucurbita ficifolia (C. ficifolia) has been attributed with hypoglycemic, hypotriglyceridemic, and anti-inflam- matory effects, and D-chiro-inositol (DCI), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, and β-sitosterol were proposed as active principles. The last two compounds were suggested as activators of two transcription factors, PPARα and PPARγ, in C2C12 myocytes, which participate in β-oxidation of fatty acids and insulin sensitivity. However, the involvement of the hepatocytic and adipocytic PPARs in the effects of C. ficifolia has not yet been explored. This research aimed to determine the effects of C. ficifolia on PPARα, PPARγ, and inflammatory cytokines in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes mice, HepG2 hepatocytes and 3T3-L1 adipocytes, implicating two additional cell types associated with metabolism of carbohydrates and lipids. STZ-induced diabetes mice received C. ficifolia (200 mg/kg/day) for 30 days, measuring serum cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6). RNA was extracted from liver. Besides, HepG2 and 3T3-L1 cells were incubated (24 h) with C. ficifolia (0.078 mM DCI), using pioglitazone or fenofibrate as controls. RNA was also extracted from cells and PCR in real-time was performed to determinate PPARα and PPARγ expression. In diabetic animals, C. ficifolia decreased glycemia and body weight, decreasing the expression level of TNF-α and IL-6. In addition, C. ficifolia increased PPARα expression in liver of diabetic animals, in HepG2 and 3T3-L1 cells;PPARγ expression only significantly increased in HepG2 cells. The data suggest that the effects on the glycemia and lipids of C. ficifolia and its anti-inflammatory effects imply, besides skeletal muscle cells, hepatic and adipocytic PPARα activation, without affectation on PPARγ. PPARs regulation by C. ficifolia may improve the metabolic dysfunctions associated with metabolic disease, controlling the intake, activation, and oxidation of fatty acids and lipid

Road accidents are one of the most relevant causes of injuries and death worldwide,and therefore,they constitute a significant field of research on the use of advanced algorithms and techniques to analyze and predict traffic accidents and determine the most relevant elements that contribute to road accidents.The research of road accident prediction aims to respond to the challenge of offer tools to generate a more secure mobility environment,and ultimately,save lives.This paper aims to provide an overview of the state of the art in the prediction of road accidents through machine learning algorithms and advanced techniques for analyzing information,such as convolutional neural networks and long short-term memory networks,among other deep learning architectures.Furthermore,in this article,a compendium and study of the most used data sources for the road accident forecast is made.And a classification is proposed according to its origin and characteristics,such as open data,measurement technologies,onboard equipment and social media data.For the analysis of the information,the different algorithms employed to make predictions about road accidents are listed and compared,as well as their applicability depending on the types of data being analyzed,along with the results obtained and their ease of interpretation and analysis.The best results reported by the authors are obtained when two or more analytic techniques are combined,in such a way that analysis of the obtained results is strengthened.Among the future challenges in road traffic forecasting lies the enhancement of the scope of the proposed models and predictions by the incorporation of heterogeneous data sources,that include geo spatial data,information from traffic volume,traffic statistics,video,sound,text and sentiment from social media,that many authors concur that can improve the precision and accuracy of the analysis and predictions.
