Boron is an element that has ability to build strong and highly directional bonds with boron itself. As a result, boron atoms form diverse structural motifs, ultimately can yield distinct nano structures, such as planar, quasi-planar, convex, cage, open-cage, tubular, spherical, ring, dome-like, shell, capsule, and so on, i.e., it can take almost any shape. Therefore, a deep understanding of the physical and chemical properties becomes important in boron cluster chemistry. Electronic and geometric structures, total and binding energies, harmonic frequencies, point symmetries, charge distributions, dipole moments, chemical bondings and the highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy gaps of neutral Bn （n=13-20） clusters have been investigated by density functional theory （DFT）, B3LYP with 6-311＋＋G（d,p） basis set. Furthermore, the first and the second energy differences are used to obtain the most stable sizes. We have observed that almost all physical properties are size dependent, and double-ring tubular form of B20 has the highest binding energy per atom. The icosahedral structure with an inside atom is found as impossible as a stable structure for the size thirteen. This structure transforms to an open-cage form. The structural transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional is found at the size of 20 and consistent with the literature. The calculated charges by the Mulliken analysis show that there is a symmetry pattern with respect to the x-z and y-z planes for the charge distributions. The unusual planar stability of the boron clusters may be explained by the delocalized π and σ bonding characteristic together with the existence of the multicentered bonding. The results have been compared to available studies in the literature.

This paper reports a small-scale study of needs analysis of leamers of Turkish as a foreign language at University of Florida. Needs analysis is described in the context of foreign language learning as ＂a systematic and ongoing process of gathering information about students＇ needs and preferences, interpreting the information and then making course decisions in order to meet those needs＂（Graves, 2000, p. 74）. Because foreign language instruction has become much more learner-centered in recent years, needs analysis is a must for effective learning processes to occur （LONG, 1999, 2005; Kikuchi ＆ Apple, 2006）. In this context, the purpose of this pilot study is to gather information about the students＇ needs in learning Turkish at Center for European Studies, where less commonly taught languages, including Czech, Greek, Hungarian and Polish are offered. Drawing on interview data compiled from a number of studies （Tarone ＆ Yule, 1989; LI ＆ Richards, 1995）, the findings indicate that the students＇ needs may be grouped under four categories including their linguistic needs, their objectives in learning Turkish, learning resources, psychological and sociological factors that may impact their learning experiences. In the light of the interview findings, certain suggestions as to how to teach Turkish effectively are made.

Finalconfirmed diagnoses were 12 schwannomas, 2 diffuse submucosal neurofibromatoses,2 ganglioneuromas, 2 malignant peripheral sheath nerve tumors,and 1 mucosal Schwann cell hamartoma. Sizes of the tumors were variable, with amedian diameter of 4 cm;the two largest (> 10 cm) were schwannomas. Themajority of cases were asymptomatic at presentation, but the most frequentsymptom was abdominal pain. Gastrointestinal tract lesions were detected withendoscopy and extra-luminal lesions were detected with cross-sectional *** cases were S100-positive and CD117-negative;most cases were negative fordesmin, epithelial membrane antigen, smooth muscle actin and CD34. AIM: To assess the association between serum lipids and diabetic retinopathy (DR). · METHODS: Sixty -one diabetic patients without retinopathy (NDR), 55 diabetic patients with non - proliferative retinopathy (NPDR) and 75 diabetic patients with proliferative retinopathy (PDR) according to ETDRS grading scale were enrolled in this study. Total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and triglyceride values were compared between the groups. ·RESULTS: The groups were well-balanced in terms of age and gender (P =0.071, P =0.265 respectively). The mean HbA1c values were significantly lower in NDR group than the NPDR and PDR groups(P =0.004, P =0.009 respectively). Mean total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL, HDL and VLDL levels were not significantly different between the groups (P =0.693, P =0.774, P =0.644, P = 0.910 and P =0.967 respectively, one way ANOVA). Mean total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL, HDL and VLDL levels were not significantly different between the patients with ME and patients without ME(P =0.622, P =0.113, P =0.955, P =0.735 and P =0.490 respectively, t -test). The mean blood glucose significantly correlated with total cholesterol (r =0.173, P =0.017) and LDL (r =0.190, P = 0.008). The mean HbA1c significantly correlated with total cholesterol (r =0.158, P =0.030) and triglyceride (r =0.148, P =0.042). ·CONCLUSION: Serum lipid levels were not significantly associated with the severity of DR or existence of ME despite the significant correlation between the mean blood glucose, HbA1c and total cholesterol.

Hydatid disease is caused by the larval stage of the genus Echinococcus. Live hydatid cysts can rupture into physiologic channels, free body cavities or adjacent organs. Although hydatid disease can develop anywhere in the human body, the liver is the most frequently involved organ, followed by the lungs. Cysts of the spleen are unusual. There are only five case reports of spontaneous cutaneous fistulization of liver hydatid cysts in the literature. But there isn＇t any report about cutaneous fistula caused by splenic hydatid cyst. We report a first case of spontaneous cutaneous fistula of infected splenic hydatid cyst. A 43-year-old man was admitted to our Emergency Service with abdominal pain and fluid drainage from the abdominal wall. He has been suffering from a reddish swelling on the abdominal wall skin for four months. After a white membrane had been protruded out from his abdominal wall, he was admitted to our Emergency Service. On physical examination, a white membrane was seen to protrude out from the 2 crux I cm skin defect on the left superolateral site of the umblicus. Large, complex, cystic and solid mass of 9.5 cm-diameter was located in the spleen on ultrasonographic examination. At operation, partial cystectomy and drainage was performed. After the operation, he was given a dosage of 10 mg/kg per day of albendazole, divided into three doses. He was discharged on the postoperative 10^th d. It should be kept in mind that splenic hydatid cysts can cause such a rare complication.
