Acute-on-chronic liver failure(AClF)is a syndrome that occurs in patients with chronic liver disease and is characterized by acute decompensation,organ failure and high short-term *** due to the lack of universal diagnostic criteria,the actual AClF prevalence remains unclear;nevertheless,it is expected to be a highly prevalent condition *** transplantation is an effective protective measure for selected AClF *** liver transplantation,diagnosing and treating precipitant events and providing supportive treatment for organ failures are currently the cornerstone of AClF *** new clinical specific therapies have been researched,more studies are necessary to assess safety and ***,future AClF management strategies must consider measures to improve access to liver transplantation because the time window for this life-saving therapy is frequently ***,an urgent and global discussion about allocation and prioritization for transplantation in critically ill AClF patients is needed because there is evidence suggesting that the current model may not portray their waitlist *** addition,while donor organ quality is meant to be a prognostic factor in the AClF setting,recent evidence suggests that machine perfusion of the liver may be a safe tool to improve the donor organ pool and expedite liver transplantation in this scenario.

This review aims to summarize the current evidence on the treatment of viral hepatitis,focusing on its clinical ***,future treatment options and areas of potential research interest are *** and Scopus databases were searched for primary studies published within the last ten *** included hepatitis A virus,hepatitis B virus(HBV),hepatitis C virus,hepatitis D virus(HDV),hepatitis e virus,and *** reported in the studies were summarized,tabulated,and *** advances in viral hepatitis treatment were accomplished,such as the advent of curative therapies for hepatitis C and the development and improvement of hepatitis A,hepatitis B,and hepatitis e *** that cure hepatitis B,going beyond viral suppression,are so far unavailable;however,targeted antiviral drugs against HBV(immunomodulatory therapies and gene silencing technologies)are promising approaches to eradicating the ***,high vaccination coverage and large-scale test-and-treat programmes with high screening rates may eliminate viral hepatitis and mitigate their burden on health *** development of curative hepatitis C treatment renewed the enthusiasm for curing hepatitis B,albeit further investigation is *** therapeutic options targeting HDV life cycle are currently under clinical investigation.

This study sought to contribute to an improved understanding of soil erosion and redistribution on Mediterranean agricultural land, where traditional soil conservation practices have been applied over millennia to provide effective protection of cultivated land. The study was undertaken in the Na Borges catchment, a groundwater-dominated lowland limestone basin (319 km2), located in the northeastern part of Mallorca, Spain. The average sediment yield from the basin, based on river sediment load data, is e 137Cs technique was used to quantify soil redistribution rates over the past 40 years and to identify the key factors involved in soil erosion and redistribution processes. To estimate erosion and deposition rates and to elucidate the main factors affecting soil redistribution, samples were collected from six slope transects representative of the local land use and slope gradients and the presence or absence of soil conservation practices. A mass balance and a profile distribution conversion model were used for cultivated areas and areas of natural vegetation, respectively, to derive point estimates of the soil redistribution rates from the 137Cs inventories measured for individual soil bulk cores. In areas without soil conservation practices, the estimated mean soil erosion rates ranged from 12.7 to 26.4 t/ha·yr, which correspond to the slight and moderate erosion classes. The erosivity of Mediterranean climatic conditions combined with the influence of agricultural practices and slope gradient on soil erosion, represent the main factors responsible for the variation of soil losses documented for the cultivated land located in downslope areas, in the absence of soil conservation practices. Deposition dominated for those transects affected by soil conservation practices, with rates ranging between 18.8 and 96.6 t/ha·yr. Classical-quantum correspondence has been an intriguing issue ever since quantum theory was proposed. The search- ing for signatures of classically nonintegrable dynamics in quantum systems comprises the interesting field of quantum chaos. In this short review, we shall go over recent efforts of extending the understanding of quantum chaos to relativistic cases. We shall focus on the level spacing statistics for two-dimensional massless Dirac billiards, i.e., particles confined in a closed region. We shall discuss the works for both the particle described by the massless Dirac equation （or Weyl equation） and the quasiparticle from graphene. Although the equations are the same, the boundary conditions are typically different, rendering distinct level spacing statistics.

AIM： Although increased insulin-like growth factor-I receptor （IGF-IR） gene expression has been reported in hepatocellular carcinoma, studies assessing IGF-IR in chronic hepatitis C （CHC） and cirrhosis are scarce. We therefore aimed to evaluate IGF-IR and IGF-I rnRNA expression in liver from patient with CHC. MeTHODS： IGF-IR and IGF-I rnRNA content were determined by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and IGF-IR protein expression was determined by immunohistochemistry in hepatic tissue obtained from patients with CHC before （34 patients） and after （10 patients） therapy with interferon-α and ribavirin. ReSUlTS： An increase of IGF-IR rnRNA content was observed in hepatic tissue obtained from all CHC patients as well as from 6 cadaveric liver donors following orthopic transplantation （an attempt to evaluate normal livers） in comparison to normal liver, while no relevant modifications were detected in IGF-I mRNA content. The irnrnunohistochemical results showed that the raise in IGF-IR rnRNA content was related both to ductular reaction and to increased IGF-IR expression in hepatocytes. A decrease in IGF-IR rnRNA content was observed in patients who achieved sustained virological response after therapy, suggesting an improvement in hepatic damage. CONClUSION： The up-regulation of IGF-IR expression in hepatocytes of patients with CHC could constitute an attempt to stimulate hepatocyte regeneration. Considering that liver is the organ with the highest levels of IGF-I, our finding of increased IGF-IR expression after both acute and chronic hepatic damage highlights the need for additional studies to elucidate the role of IGF-I in liver regeneration.

Influence of variables related to soil weathering on the geomechanical performance of tropical soils

This paper presents an experimental and analytical investigation of the influence of variables related to soil weathering on the geomechanical performance of sand-silt mixtures containing lateritic soils,*** weathered tropical soils with the influence of interparticle *** sand-silt mixtures containing different relative proportions between uniform sand and lateritic soil were produced,and geomechanical soil characterization tests were *** on the results,a transition from a primarily coarse-to a fine-grained prevailing soil structure was found to cause considerable impact on the geomechanical performance of these soils,as evidenced by design variables related to soil mineralogy and size distribution ***,fines contents of both individual soil particles and soil aggregations were found to correlate with experimental results,while the relative proportion between sesquioxides(aluminum,and iron oxides),and silica,***-silica ratios(SSR^(-1)),facilitated estimates concerning changes in geomechanical ***,the application of the sandsilt mixtures containing lateritic soil on soil walls reinforced with polymeric strips was also evaluated,further emphasizing the potential advantages of adopting variables related to soil weathering on design guidelines concerning tropical soils.

A Numerical Study on Piezoelectric energy Harvesting by Combining Transverse Galloping and Parametric Instability Phenomena

This paper aims to numerically investigate the effects of parametric instability on piezoelectric energy harvesting from the transverse galloping of a square prism. A two degrees-of-freedom reduced-order model for this problem is proposed and numerically integrated. A usual quasi-steady galloping model is applied, where the transverse force coefficient is adopted as a cubic polynomial function with respect to the angle of attack. Time-histories of nondimensional prism displacement, electric voltage and power dissipated at both the dashpot and the electrical resistance are obtained as functions of the reduced velocity. Both, oscillation amplitude and electric voltage, increased with the reduced velocity for all parametric excitation conditions tested. For low values of reduced velocity, 2:1 parametric excitation enhances the electric voltage. On the other hand, for higher reduced velocities, a 1:1 parametric excitation(i.e., the same as the natural frequency) enhances both oscillation amplitude and electric voltage. It has been also found that, depending on the parametric excitation frequency, the harvested electrical power can be amplified in 70% when compared to the case under no parametric excitation.

The thin layer activation technique(TlA)is very effective in wear analysis for tribological systems where disassembly is costly or *** its development in the 1970s,TlA has been applied through direct irradiation of solid targets using ionizing particle beams to obtain an activation with a specific *** profile is then used to measure wear in a variety of *** experiments rely heavily on how deep the normalized activation *** of 30μm to 50μm are obtained for constant activation by the standard method,which for many experiments is ***,many others would benefit greatly from a 300μm constant activation layer,such as high-performance engines,softer alloys(brakes),and oil transport *** this aim was the goal of this ***,we needed to find an adequate irradiation line for the TlA ***,another technique/system was developed(the Attenuation Wheel),which would bring the depth of constant activation from 50μm to 300μm.
