Objective:To evaluate the potential toxic effects of mine tailings exposure among the fisher folks residing near and far from the calancan Bay,Marinduque,using the micronucleus assay as an ***:The fisher folks residing near and far from the calancan Bay were interviewed and the presence and frequency of cells with micronucleus in exfoliated buccal epithelial cells were ***:Results showed that the prevalence of cells with micronucleus was higher among the fisher folks who were directly exposed to the mine tailings as compared with those fisher folks who reside in a community without exposure of mine tailings and history of mining(Pconclusions:The presence and the significant difference in the cells with micronuclei observed near the calancan Bay could possibly indicate a prolonged chemical stress caused by the toxic heavy metals in the mine tailings and the environment.

cerebral ischemia is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although stroke （a form of cerebral ischemia）-related costs are expected to reach 240.67 billion dollars by 2030, options for treatment against cerebral ischemia/stroke are limited. All therapies except anti-thrombolytics （i.e., tissue plasminogen activator） and hypothermia have failed to reduce neuronal injury, neurological deficits, and mortality rates following cerebral ischemia, which suggests that development of novel therapies again st stroke/cerebral ischemia are urgently needed. Here, we discuss the possible mechanism（s） underlying cerebral ischemia-induced brain injury, as well as current and future novel therapies （i.e., growth factors, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, melatonin, resveratrol, protein kinase c isozymes, pifithrin, hypothermia, fatty acids, sympathoplegic drugs, and stem cells） as it relates to cerebral ischemia.

The RAS gene family,responsible for signal transduction within the mitogen activated protein kinase(MAPK)and phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase(PI3K)pathways,is frequently involved in carcinogenesis,and alterations in its member genes can be detected,with variable frequency,in a wide variety of solid and hematological *** alterations may behave as prognostic-predictive biomarkers and driver mutations,making them an interesting therapeutic *** their discovery,many strategies have been pursued to act on their signaling ***,in clinical practice,KRAS,the most prominent member of the RAS gene family,represents an especially elusive target in most malignancies;pathway inhibition is carried out upstream,on the EGFR receptor,or downstream,most frequently on the BRAF/MEK/ERK ***,clinically relevant direct RAS inhibition has been successfully achieved with the development of potent and selective covalent inhibitors of KRAS c.34G>T(p.G12c).These latest-generation drugs represent both a new and interesting tool in the therapeutic armamentarium and a symbolic end to the myth of KRAS ***,their clinical relevance and appropriate place in treatment strategies remain to be determined.

The cOVID-19 pandemic drastically altered traffic patterns across the *** more people staying at home and relying on delivery services,there was a reduction in passenger car traffic but an increase in freight *** study investigates the changes in traffic volume and mode splits during the cOVID-19 pandemic at the intersection of Broening Highway and Holabird Avenues and investigates traffic signal reallocation strategies that account for the changes in *** study considers morning peak traffic volumes before and during cOVID.A methodology was developed to evaluate and measure freight volumes and *** the literature,the cost per kilogram of cO,VOc,and NOx was$5.85,$3,37,and$12.53,*** intersection operated at a level of service(LOS)of c both pre-cOVID and during *** volume decreased by 24.3%during cOVID at the study location;car volumes declined by 50%,and truck volumes increased by 130%.The total rate of emissions decreased by 22.6%.

Prevention of type 2 diabetes in urban American Indian/Alaskan Native communities: The Life in BALANcE pilot study

Objective: The Life in BALANcE (LIB) study is a pilot translational study modeling the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) intensive lifestyle coaching intervention among an underserved, high-risk population: American Indians/Alaska Natives (AI/ANs) living in a large urban setting (Las Vegas, Nevada). Research Design and Methods: A total of 22 overweight/obese AI/ANs (age, 39.6 ± 10.4 years;BMI, 34.1 ± 6.3 kg/m2) at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes (HbA1c > 5.4 (36 mmol/mol) Results: Only 12 of the 22 participants remained?in the LIB program at the final post-program follow-up. Participants demonstrated significant decreased waist circumference and elevated HDL cholesterol. Triglycerides manifested the highest percentage change without statistical significance. No significant change was observed in blood pressure or fasting blood glucose. conclusions: LIB participants’ improvements in BMI, waist circumference, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides suggests type 2 diabetes prevention programs aimed at urban AI/ANs show significant potential for reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes among this underserved and high risk community. Qualitative data suggest the main challenge for type 2 diabetes prevention specific to this population is a need for improved community outreach strategies.

Objective: To evaluate the trypanocidal, leishmanicidal and cytotoxic activity of Eugenia jambolana(E. jambolana) and Eugenia uniflora(E. uniflora) extracts and ***: The products were characterized by Lc–MS. Antiparasitic assays were performed and cytotoxicity was evaluated in fibroblastos. In vitro assays were performed using spectrophotometric evaluation. All assays were performed in ***: The results showed that the extracts and the tannic fraction from E. jambolana inhibited 100% of the epimastigote lines. The ethanolic extract was the most efficient in all concentrations tested against the three parasite strains. In the cytotoxicity assay the flavonoid fraction showed low toxicity. All E. uniflora samples showed cytotoxicity at the highest concentration tested, but the extract showed no toxic effect on the fibroblasts at the lowest concentration. The flavonoid and tannic fractions were more efficient against Leishmania braziliensis promastigotes compared to the extract. However, the extracts and the tannic fraction were more effective against Leishmania infantum strains. The effect on epimastigote cells was observed at all concentrations tested, with all E. uniflora samples. However, the samples were more effective at the highest concentration, where there was inhibition in 100% of the Trypanosoma cruzi ***: The species E. jambolana and E. uniflora presented antiparasitic activity against all tested parasite strains, indicating that these species can serve as an alternative therapy as they were efficient in the tests performed. The E. uniflora extract and the E. jambolana flavonoid fraction presented a low cytotoxicity, opening the floor for new biological studies.
