Ionic liquids ( ILs) based ultrasonic-assisted extract has been applied for the extraction of essential oil from Persicaria minor leaves. The effects of temperature,sonication time,and particle size of the plant material on the yield of essential oil were investigated. Among the different ILs employed,1-ethyl-3-methyli midazolium acetate was the most effective,providing a 9. 55% yield of the essential oil under optimum conditions( 70 ℃,25 min,IL ∶hexane ratio of 7 ∶10 ( v /v) ,particle size 60-80 mesh) . The performance of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate in the extraction was attributed to its lowviscosity and ability to disintegrate the structural matrix of the plant material. The ability of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate was also confirmed using the conductor like-screening model for realistic solvents. This research proves that ILs can be used to extract essential oils from lignocellulosic biomass.

In non-cyanogenic species, the main source of cyanide derives from ethylene and camalexin biosyntheses. In mitochondria, cyanide is a potent inhibitor of the cytochrome c oxidase and is metabolized by the β-cyanoalanine synthase CYS-C1, catalyzing the conversion of cysteine and cyanide to hydrogen sulfide and β-cyanoalanine. The hydrogen sulfide released also inhibits the cytochrome c oxidase and needs to be detoxified by the O-acetylserine（thiol）lyase mitochondrial isoform, OAS-C, which catalyzes the incorporation of sulfide to O-acetylserine to produce cysteine, thus generating a cyclic pathway in the mitochondria. The loss of functional OAS-C isoforms causes phenotypic characteristics very similar to the loss of the CYS-C1 enzyme, showing defects in root hair formation. Genetic complementation with the OAS-Cgene rescues the impairment of root hair elongation, restoring the wild-type phenotype. The mitochondria compromise their capacity to properly detoxify cyanide and the resulting sulfide because the latter cannot re-assimilate into cysteine in the oas-c null mutant. Consequently, we observe an accumulation of sulfide and cyanide and of the alternative oxidase, which is unable to prevent the production of reactive oxygen species probably due to the accumulation of both toxic molecules. Our results allow us to suggest that the significance of OAS-C is related to its role in the proper sulfide and cyanide detoxification in mitochondria.

The uniparental inheritance and conserved structure of the chloroplast genome among many angiosperms makes it suitable for constructing gene lineages and inferring population histories based on these relationships. However, the analysis of a single chloroplast region to solve population issues has not yielded the desired amount of variability due to the low mutation rate. Therefore, it is necessary to screen and carefully analyze chloroplast intergenic or intronic regions to select the most appropriate for studying the genetic variability in the chloroplast genome of a particular taxon. In this context, the aim of this work was to characterize 8 regions in Calophyllum brasiliense using 11 selected primer pairs and to evaluate their usefulness for phylogeographic analysis. Intergenic spacers petA-psbJ, petG-trnP and rp132-trnL and the trnL intron demonstrated potentially informative sites. The combination of these 4 regions will allow the analysis of genetic population structure and the integration of historical aspects to inform strategies for conserving C. brasiliense, especially for highly impacted populations and those at risk of local extinction.

OBJECTIVE: To present and analyze treatmentsand clinical outcomes of Chinese patients with influenza-like ***: We conducted a multi-site observational study from December 2009 to April 2010. Patients with influenza-like illness from 45 hospitals were enrolled. Patients received Chinese herbal medicine(CHM), conventional treatments, or CHM plus conventional treatments(combination treatment) according to the guidelines for influenza A/H1 N1 2009 in China. The primary outcomes were the time to alleviation of symptoms and the incidence of complications. The secondary outcomes were the time until becoming afebrile, incidence of severe illness, testing negative on an influenza A viral test, and total medical ***: In total, 5967 patients were enrolled. The percentages of patients prescribed CHM alone, conventional treatment, and combination treatment were 27.8%, 5.1%, and 67.7%, respectively. There were no significant differences in the time to alleviation of symptoms, incidence of complications,time to becoming afebrile, or rate of severe illness among the CHM, conventional, and combination treatment groups. The rates of testing negative on the influenza virus A rapid test and H1 N1 virus test were 90.3% and 76.3%, respectively. However,significant differences were found in the total medical fees among the three groups: CHM treatments were more economical than the other two ***: The efficacy of CHM for influenza-like illness was not different from that of conventional treatments, but it was more economical.

AIM： To estimate the incidence of collagenous colitis （CC） in southern Sweden during 2001-2010. METHODS： Cases were identified by searching for CC in the diagnostic registers at the Pathology Departments in the county of Skane. The catchment area comprised the south-west part of the county （394 307 inhabitants in 2010） and is a mixed urban and rural type with limited migration. CC patients that had under- gone colonoscopy during the defined period and were living in this area were included in the study regardless of where in Skane they had been diagnosed. Medical records were scrutinized and uncertain cases were re- assessed to ensure that only newly diagnosed CC cases were included. The diagnosis of CC was based on both clinical and histopathological criteria. The clinical crite-rion was non-bloody watery diarrhoea. The histopatho- logical criteria were a chronic inflammatory infiltrate in the lamina propria, a thickened subepithelial collagen layer ≥10 micrometers （um） and epithelial damage such as flattening and detachment. RESULTS： During the ten year period from 2001-2010, 198 CC patients in the south-west part of the county of Skane in southern Sweden were newly diagnosed. Of these, 146 were women and 52 were men, i.e., a female： male ratio of 2.8：1. The median age at diag- nosis was 71 years （range 28-95/inter-quartile range 59-81）, for women median age was 71 （range 28-95） years and was 73 （range 48-92） years for men. The mean annual incidence was 5.4/105 inhabitants. During the time periods 2001-2005 and 2006-2010, the mean annual incidence rates were 5.4/105 for both periods [95% confidence interval （CI）： 4.3-6.5 in 2001-2005 and 4.4-6.4 in 2006-2010, respectively, and 4.7-6.2 for the whole period]. Although the incidence varied over the years （minimum 3.7 to maximum 6.7/105） no increase or decrease in the incidence could be identi- fied. The odds ratio （OR） for CC in women compared to men was estimated to be 2.8 （95% CI： 2.0-3.7）. The OR for women 65 year

Gaseous molecules, such as hydrogen sulfide(H_2S)and nitric oxide(NO), are crucial players in cellular and(patho)physiological processes in biological systems. The biological functions of these gaseous molecules, which were first discovered and identified as gasotransmitters in animals, have received unprecedented attention from plant scientists in recent decades. Researchers have arrived at the consensus that H_2S is synthesized endogenously and serves as a signaling molecule throughout the plant life ***, the mechanisms of H_2S action in redox biology is still largely unexplored. This review highlights what we currently know about the characteristics and biosynthesis of H_2S in plants. Additionally,we summarize the role of H_2S in plant resistance to abiotic stress. Moreover, we propose and discuss possible redox-dependent mechanisms by which H_2S regulates plant physiology.
