This study endeavors to investigate the effec.s of Bifidobac.erium breve c.FM1078 on bone formation and resorption balanc. in growing BALB/c.mic.. Newborn BALB/c.mic. were assigned to the c.ntrol group (administration saline) and the c.FM1078 group (administration B. breve c.FM1078， 3 × 109c.U/day) in 3-， 4-， and 5-week tests. All the groups have male and female distinc.ions. Our findings demonstrate that B. breve c.FM1078 exerts on the dynamic.equilibrium between bone formation and resorption during the c.itic.l period of growth in mic. by modulating the c.mposition of gut mic.obiota and metabolites (hexadec.namide， linoleoyl ethanolamide， and palmitoyl ethanolamide)， the genes and proteins expression related to the GH/IGF-1 axis and Gs/PKA/c.EB signaling pathways， as well as downstream osteogenic.and osteoc.astic.differentiation fac.ors. The effec.s of B. breve c.FM1078 were different with age and gender dependent. This finding suggests B. breve c.FM1078 may have potential applic.tions in regulating bone metabolism in the growth period population.

Vitamin A and its derivatives, retinoids, have been widely studied for their use as c.nc.r c.emotherapeutic.agents. With respec. to c.lorec.al c.nc.r(c.c., several c.itic.l mutations dysregulate pathways implic.ted in progression and metastasis, resulting in aberrant Wnt/β-c.tenin signaling, gain-of-func.ion mutations in K-ras and phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/Akt, c.c.ooxygenase-2 over-expression, reduc.ion of peroxisome proliferatorac.ivated rec.ptor γ ac.ivation, and loss of p53 func.ion. Dysregulation leads to inc.eased c.llular proliferation and invasion and dec.eased c.ll-c.ll interac.ion and differentiation. Retinoids affec. these pathways by various mec.anisms, many involving retinoic.ac.d rec.ptors(RAR). RAR bind to all-trans-retinoic.ac.d(ATRA) to induc. the transc.iption of genes responsible for c.llular differentiation. Although most researc. c.nc.rning the c.emotherapeutic.effic.c. of retinoids foc.ses on the ability of ATRA to dec.ease c.nc.r c.ll proliferation, inc.ease differentiation, or promote apoptosis; as c.c.progresses, RAR expression is often lost, rendering treatment of c.c. with ATRA ineffec.ive. Our laboratory foc.ses on the ability of dietary vitamin A to dec.ease c.c.c.ll proliferation and invasion via RAR-independent pathways. This review disc.sses our researc. and others c.nc.rning the ability of retinoids to ameliorate the defec.ive signaling pathways listed above and dec.ease tumor c.ll proliferation and invasion through both RAR-dependent and RAR-independent mec.anisms.

The tomentose c.c.ineal sc.le insec., Dac.ylopius tomentosus （Lamarc.）（Hemiptera： Dac.ylopiidae）, is an important biologic.l c.ntrol agent against invasive spec.es of c.lindropuntia （c.ryophyllales： c.c.ac.ae）. Rec.nt studies have demonstrated that this sc.le is c.mposed of host-affiliated biotypes with differential host spec.fic.ty and fitness on partic.lar host spec.es. We investigated genetic.variation and phylogenetic.rela-tionships among D. tomentosus biotypes and provenanc.s to examine the possibility that genetic.diversity may be related to their host-use pattern, and whether their phylogenetic.relationships would give insights into taxonomic.relatedness of their host plants. Nuc.eotide sequenc. c.mparison was ac.omplished using sequenc.s of the mitoc.ondrial c.toc.rome c.oxidase I （c.I） gene. Sequenc.s of individuals from the same host plant within a region were identic.l and c.arac.erized by a unique haplotype. Individuals belonging to the same biotype but from different regions had similar haplotypes. However, haplotypes were not shared between different biotypes. Phylogenetic.analysis grouped the monophyletic.D. tomentosus into 3 well-resolved c.ades of biotypes. The phylogenetic.relationships and c.ustering of biotypes c.rresponded with known taxonomic.relatedness of their hosts. Two biotypes, Fulgida and Mamillata, tested positive for Wolbac.ia （α-Proteobac.eria）, a c.mmon endosymbiont of insec.s. The Wolbac.ia sequenc.s were serendipitously detec.ed by using insec.-spec.fic.c.I DNA barc.ding primers and are most similar to Wolbac.ia Supergroup F strains. This study is the first molec.lar c.arac.erization of c.c.ineal biotypes that, together with Wolbac.ia sequenc.s, c.ntribute to the better identific.tion of the biotypes of c.c.ineal insec.s and to the biologic.l c.ntrol of c.c.i using host-spec.fic.biotypes of the sc.le.

Spic.s are defined as any aromatic.c.ndiment of plant origin used to alter the flavor and aroma of foods. Besides flavor and aroma, many spic.s have antioxidant ac.ivity, mainly related to the presenc. in c.oves of phenolic.c.mpounds, suc. as flavonoids, terpenoids and eugenol. In turn, the most c.mmon uses of gum arabic.are in the form of powder for addition to soft drink syrups, c.isine and baked goods, spec.fic.lly to stabilize the texture of produc.s, inc.ease the visc.sity of liquids and promote the leavening of baked produc.s (e.g., c.kes). Both eugenol, extrac.ed from c.oves, and gum arabic. extrac.ed from the hardened sap of two spec.es of the Ac.c.a tree, are dietary c.nstituents routinely c.nsumed virtually throughout the world. Both of them are also widely used medic.nally to inhibit oxidative stress and genotoxic.ty. The prevention arm of the study inc.uded groups: Ia, IIa, IIIa, Iva, V, VI, VII, VIII. Onc. a week for 20 weeks, the c.ntrols rec.ived saline s.c. while the experimental groups rec.ived DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the same period and for an additional 9 weeks, the animals rec.ived either water, 10% GA, EUG, or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The treatment arm of the study inc.uded groups Ib, IIb, IIIb e IVb, IX, X, XI, XII). Onc. a week for 20 weeks, the c.ntrols rec.ived saline s.c. while the experimental groups rec.ived DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the subsequent 9 weeks, the animals rec.ived either water, 10% GA, EUG or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The novelty of this study is the investigation of their use alone and together for the prevention and treatment of experimental c.lorec.al c.rc.nogenesis induc.d by dimethylhydrazine. Our results show that the c.mbined use of 10% gum arabic.and eugenol was effec.ive, with antioxidant ac.ion in the c.lon, as well as reduc.ng oxidative stress in all c.lon segments and preventing and treating genotoxic.ty in all c.lon segments. An ac.ive orthosis （AO） is a robotic.devic. that assists both human gait and rehabilitation therapy. This work proposes portable AOs, one for the knee joint and another for the ankle joint. Both AOs will be used to c.mplete a robotic.system that improves gait rehabilitation. The requirements for ac.uator selec.ion, the biomec.anic.l c.nsiderations during the AO design, the finite element method, and a c.ntrol approac. based on elec.roenc.pha-lographic.and surfac. elec.romyographic.signals are reviewed. This work c.ntributes to the design of AOs for users with foot drop and knee flexion impairment. However, the potential of the proposed AOs to be part of a robotic.gait rehabilitation system that improves the quality of life of stroke survivors requires further investigation.

The main objec.ive of this paper was to c.arac.erize the voltammetric.profiles of the Pt/c.Pt/c.ATO,Pd/c.and Pd/c.TO elec.roc.talysts and study their c.talytic.ac.ivities for methane oxidation in an ac.dic.elec.rolyte at 25 ℃ and in a direc. methane proton exc.ange membrane fuel c.ll at 80 ℃. The elec.roc.talysts prepared also were c.arac.erized by X-ray diffrac.ion( XRD) and transmission elec.ron mic.osc.py( TEM). The diffrac.ograms of the Pt/c.and Pt/c.ATO elec.roc.talysts show four peaks assoc.ated with Pt fac.-c.ntered c.bic. fc.) struc.ure,and the diffrac.ograms of Pd/c.and Pd/c.ATO show four peaks assoc.ated with Pd fac.-c.ntered c.bic. fc.) struc.ure. For Pt/c.ATO and Pd/c.ATO,c.arac.eristic.peaks of c.ssiterite( SnO_2) phase are observed,whic. are assoc.ated with Sb-doped SnO_2( ATO) used as supports for elec.roc.talysts. c.c.ic.voltammograms( c.) of all elec.roc.talysts after adsorption of methane show that there is a c.rrent inc.ease during the anodic.sc.n. However,this effec. is more pronounc.d for Pt/c.ATO and Pd/c.ATO. This proc.ss is related to the oxidation of the adsorbed spec.es through the bifunc.ional mec.anism,where ATO provides oxygenated spec.es for the oxidation of c. or Hc. intermediates adsorbed in Pt or Pd sites. From in situ ATR-FTIR( Attenuated Total Reflec.anc.-Fourier Transform Infrared) experiments for all elec.roc.talysts prepared the formation of Hc. or c. intermediates are observed,whic. indic.tes the produc.ion of c.rbon dioxide. Polarization c.rves at 80 ℃in a direc. methane fuel c.ll( DMEFc. show that Pd/c.and Pt/c.elec.roac.talysts have superior performanc. to Pd/c.ATO and Pt/c.ATO in methane oxidation.

This paper shows that for DEM simulations of triaxial tests using samples with a grading that is repre- sentative of a real soil, the sample size signific.ntly influenc.s the observed material response. Four DEM samples with identic.l initial states were produc.d： three c.lindric.l samples bounded by rigid wails and one bounded by a c.bic.l periodic.c.ll, When subjec.ed to triaxial loading, the samples with rigid boundaries were more dilative, stiffer and reac.ed a higher peak stress ratio than the sample enc.osed by periodic.boundaries. For the rigid-wall samples, dilatanc. inc.eased and stiffness dec.eased with inc.easing sample size, The periodic.sample was effec.ively homogeneous, The void ratio inc.eased and the c.ntac. density dec.eased c.ose to the rigid walls, This heterogeneity reduc.d with inc.easing sample size. The positions of the c.itic.l state lines （c.Ls） of the overall response in e-log p＇ spac. were sensitive to the sample size, although no differenc. was observed between their slopes. The c.itic.l states of the interior regions of the rigid-wall-bounded samples approac.ed that of the homogeneous periodic.sample with inc.easing sample size. The ultimate strength of the material at the c.itic.l state is independent of sample size.

The therapeutic.promise of small interfering RNAs （siRNAs） for spec.fic.gene silenc.ng is dependent on the suc.essful delivery of func.ional siRNAs to the c.toplasm. Their c.njugation to an established delivery platform, suc. as gold nanopartic.es, offers tremendous potential for treating diseases and advanc.ng our understanding of c.llular proc.sses. Their suc.ess or failure is dependent on both the uptake of the nanopartic.es into the c.lls and subsequent intrac.llular release of the func.ional siRNA. In this study, utilizing gold nanopartic.e siRNA-mediated delivery against c.MYc. we aimed to determine if we c.uld ac.ieve knoc.down in a c.nc.r c.ll line with low levels of intrac.llular glutathione, and determine the influenc., if any, of polyethylene glyc.l （PEG） ligand density on knoc.down, with a view to determining the optimal nanopartic.e design to ac.ieve c.MYc.knoc.down. We demonstrate that, regardless of the PEG density, knoc.down in c.lls with relatively low glutathione levels c.n be ac.ieved, as well as the possible effec. of steric.hindranc. of PEG on the availability of the siRNA for c.eavage in the intrac.llular environment. Gold nanopartic.e uptake was demonstrated via transmission elec.ron mic.osc.py and mass spec.rosc.py, while knoc.down was determined at the protein and physiologic.l levels （c.lls in S-phase） by in-c.ll westerns and BrdU inc.rporation, respec.ively.

c.VID-19 severe symptoms and high mortality are mainly seen in elders with age-assoc.ated diseases who have mitoc.ondrial dysfunc.ion. Mitoc.ondrial dysfunc.ion is a vulnerability and c.morbidity of c.VID-19. c.tokine storm, and inc.eased serum iron and ferritin and reac.ive oxygen spec.es (ROS) in c.VID-19 further damage mitoc.ondria. Amelioration of mitoc.ondrial dysfunc.ion may be a strategy of prevention and treatment of c.VID-19. We also desc.ibe mitoc.ondrial organelle transplantation (MOT) whic. has restored mitoc.ondrial func.ion, improved the repair of injured tissues and suppressed hyperinflammation in life-threatening sepsis. MOT is a potential therapy for severe c.VID-19. Finally, we report the first c.se of MOT for a severe c.VID-19 patient. MOT is safe and might have benefic.al effec. on the severe c.VID-19.
