Native of Australia,Thaumastocoris peregrinus(Eucalyptus bronze bug)is a Eucalyptus insect pest which was firstly detected in Brazil in June *** studies have shown favorable areas for *** population outbreaks in Brazil,based on georeferenced-crossing information using geographical information system(GIS).Despite that,it is crucial to both enhance the precision of methods used on georeferenced crossings and update information,in order to enable greater precision toward the identification of propitious areas for the occurrence of the *** objective of this study was to identify areas with favorable conditions to occurrence of Thaumastocoris peregrinus in Brazil,in at least one month in the year,based on national information of this *** conditions to the occurrence of the insect,the average climatic data from weather stations(2009-2018)and Eucalyptus crop areas in 2018 were *** information was used in GIS to obtain a zoning map indicating the favorable areas to the insect in at least one month in the *** georeferenced-crossing technique used considered both spatial interpolation by Cokriging methods and by Inverse Distance Weighted(IDW).results indicated the presence of propitious outbreaks for *** occurring in differentiated months in the Southern,Southeastern,Midwestern and Northeastern geographic regions of the country,with lowest monthly aptitude noticed for the Northern *** sequential periods of favorability for occurrences from very high to medium intensities were identified.

Long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1) analogues marketed for type 2 diabetes(T2D) treatment have been showing positive and protective effects in several different tissues, including pancreas, heart or even brain. This gut secreted hormone plays a potent insulinotropic activity and an important role in maintaining glucose homeostasis. Furthermore, growing evidences suggest the occurrence of several commonalities between T2 D and neurodegenerative diseases, insulin resistance being pointed as a main cause for cognitive decline and increased risk to develop dementia. In this regard, it has also been suggested that stimulation of brain insulin signaling may have a protective role against cognitive deficits. As GLP-1 receptors(GLP-1r) are expressed throughout the central nervous system and GLP-1 may cross the blood-brain-barrier, an emerging hypothesis suggests that they may be promising therapeutic targets against brain dysfunctional insulin signaling-related pathologies. Importantly, GLP-1 actions depend not only on the direct effect mediated by its receptor activation, but also on the gut-brain axis involving an exchange of signals between both tissues via the vagal nerve, thereby regulating numerous physiological functions(e.g., energy homeostasis, glucose-dependent insulin secretion, as well as appetite and weight control). Amongst the incretin/GLP-1 mimetics class of anti-T2 D drugs with an increasingly described neuroprotective potential, the already marketed liraglutide emerged as a GLP-1r agonist highly resistant to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 degradation(thereby having an increased half-life) and whose systemic GLP-1r activity is comparable to that of native GLP-1. Importantly, several preclinical studies showed anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and neuroprotective effects of liraglutide against T2 D, stroke and Alzheimer disease(AD), whereas several clinical trials, demonstrated some surprising benefits of liraglutide on weight loss, microglia in

The geographical extent of Brazil exceeds 8.5 million km2 and encompasses a complex mix of biomes and other environmental *** decision support tools are needed to help support management of these diverse Brazilian natural resources including ecohydrological *** use of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)ecohydrological watershed-scale model in Brazil has increased greatly during the past *** over 100 SWAT studies were identified in this review which have been published during 1999 to 2015 in Brazilian and international journals,conference proceedings,and as theses or dissertations,many of which are written in *** majority of these studies(102 total)are reviewed here as part of an extensive survey covering the 1999 to 2013 time *** and spatial distributions,a summary of hydrologic calibration and validation results and a synopsis of the types of applications that were performed are reported for the surveyed studies.A smaller subset of recent Brazilian studies published in English between 2012 and 2015 in scientific journals are also reviewed,with emphasis on hydrologic and sediment transport testing results as well as scenario applications that were *** majority of the surveyed SWAT studies was performed for watersheds located in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil(67%)and was conducted in the context of academic *** 50%of the surveyed studies reported only hydrologic *** trends were found for the subset of more recent English *** studies have been reported that describe applications of SWAT in Brazil by private firms or government agencies;this review indicates that the potential exists for increased numbers of such studies in the ***,there is evidence that a lack of accessibility to adequate quality input data is a possible hindrance to the more general use of SWAT for watershed applications in Brazil.

The bioactivity of humic acids (HA) is mainly due to the presence of auxin analogs. In turn, nitric oxide (NO) production in plants affects root growth and may result from endogenous auxin production or the application of synthetic auxin analogs or HA. Nitric oxide signaling may be related to the bioactivity of the HA. Although the auxin, NO, and rOS-mediated activity of HA has been studied, no studies exist on their effects in Ocimum basilicum L., commonly known as basil. A study under controlled in vitro conditions was performed using hairy roots (hairy roots) of basil grown in medium with N-NO3- (0.5 or 5.0 mM) and subjected to treatments with HA (3 mMC·L-1) or sodium nitroprusside (SNP;100 μM), an NO donor, either without or with 2-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide (cPTIO;200 μM), an NO scavenger. The addition of HA and SNP resulted in significant increases in the root growth, associated with increased NO and reactive oxygen species (rOS) contents. The application of the NO scavenger cPTIO with the SNP and HA decreased the effects of both substances on the root growth and endogenous levels of the NO and rOS. The increased root growth promoted by the NO donor (SNP) and HA was also associated with increased proton pump and catalase activity for both N-NO3- levels tested. The results showed that the effects of HA are dependent on NO and rOS, which act as messengers, inducing root growth.

Flavonoids are phenolic compounds with biological and pharmacological properties, such as antioxidant and antiviral effects. In the present work, we evaluated the effect of the flavonoids quercetin and rutin in human SD-MSCs （skin-derived-multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells）. Cultured SD-MSCs were exposed to different concentrations of flavonoids （80 to 320 μM） for 2 days in vitro. Cell viability was assessed by MTT assay and cell proliferation by BrdU staining. Cell death was quantified by the analysis of picnotic nuclei. In this paper, we demonstrated for the first time that both quercetin and rutin affect the viability of SD-MSCs, although high concentrations of quercetin （320 μM） promoted increased values of picnoctic nuclei. Quercetin treatment increased cell proliferation and, in contrast, rutin in the same concentration decreased these values. Our results may aid the comprehension of flavonoids effect in SD-MSCs. However, a better understanding of the mechanisms involving flavonoids and SD-MSCs interactions are necessary.

Objectives: This research work intends to clarify the role of artificial saliva, in particularly the role of mucin, a salivary protein, on the surface properties and adhesion ability of Candida spp. oral clinical isolates to abiotic surfaces. Methods: Four oral clinical isolates of Candida spp. were used: two Candida albicans strains (AC;AM) and two Candida parapsilosis strains (AD;AM2). The strains were isolated from patients using oral prosthesis. The microorganisms were cultured in the absence or presence of mucin and artificial saliva, and their adhesion to an abiotic surface (coated with mucin and artificial saliva) was evaluated. results: The presence of mucin per se onto the abiotic surface decreased the adhesion of all strains, although the combination of mucin with artificial saliva had reduced this effect. No direct correlation between adhesion and the surface free energies of adhesion of the microorganisms was found. Significance: Candida spp. were human commensal microorganisms that became pathogenic when the host immune defenses were compromised. Medical devices were colonized by Candida spp. particularly, oral prostheses, which might lead to the degradation of the prostheses and systemic infections. The salivary secretions that constantly cover the oral cavity influenced Candida spp. adhesion process. Therefore, it was important to understand the interactions between Candida spp., salivary proteins and the characteristic of oral prosthesis when developing materials for oral prostheses.
