The feed additive ractopamine hydrochl.ride was fortified at four concentrations into batch vial. containing soil. that differed in both biol.gical.activity and organic matter（OM）.Sampl.ng of the l.quid l.yer for 14 days demonstrated that ractopamine rapidl. dissipated from the l.quid l.yer. l.ss than 20% of the fortified dose remained in the l.quid l.yer after 4 hr,and recoveries of dosed ractopamine ranged from 8 to 18% in the l.quid l.yer at 336 hr. Sorption to soil.was the major fate for ractopamine in soil.water systems, i.e., 42%–51% of the dose at14 days. The major portion of the sorbed fraction was comprised of non-extractabl.s; a smal.er fraction of the sorbed dose was extracted into water and acetone, portions which woul. be potential.y mobil. in the environment. Partitioning coefficients for al. soil. suggested strong sorption of ractopamine to soil.which is governed by hydrophobic interactions and cation exchange compl.xes within the soil.OM. Ractopamine degradation was observed, but to mostl. non-pol.r compounds which had a higher potential.than ractopamine to sorb to soil. The formation of vol.til.s was al.o suggested. Therefore, despite rapid and extensive soil.sorption,these studies indicated a portion of ractopamine, present in manures used to fertil.ze soil.,may be mobil. in the environment via water-borne events.

The asial.gl.coprotein （ASGP） receptor is a wel.characterized hepatic receptor that is recycl.d via the common cel.ul.r process of receptor-mediated endocytosis （RME）. The RME process pl.ys an integral.part in the proper trafficking and routing of receptors and l.gands in the heal.hy cel.. Thus, the missorting or al.ered transport of proteins during RME is thought to pl.y a rol. in several.diseases associated with hepatocyte and l.ver dysfunction. Previousl., we examined in detail.al.erations that occur in hepatocel.ul.r RME and associated receptor functions as a resul. of one particul.r l.ver injury, al.ohol.c l.ver disease （Al.）. The studies reveal.d profound ethanol. mediated impairments to the ASGP receptor and the RME process, indicating the importance of this receptor and the maintenance of proper endocytic events in normal.tissue. To further cl.rify these observations, studies were performed util.zing knockout mice （l.cking a functional.ASGP receptor） to which were administered several.l.ver toxicants. In addition to al.ohol. we examined the effects fol.owing administration of anti- Fas （CD95） antibody, carbon tetrachl.ride （CCh） and l.popol.saccharide （l.S）/gal.ctosamine. The resul.s of these studies demonstrated that the knockout mice sustained enhanced l.ver injury in response to al. of the treatments, as shown by increased indices of l.ver damage, such as enhancement of serum enzyme l.vel., histopathol.gical.scores, as wel. as hepatocel.ul.r death. Overal., the work compl.ted to date suggests a possibl. l.nk between hepatic receptors and l.ver injury. In particul.r, adequate function and content of the ASGP receptor may provide protection against various toxinmediated l.ver diseases.

Chronic ethanol.consumption is associated with serious and potential.y fatal.al.ohol.rel.ted l.ver injuries such as hepatomegal., al.ohol.c hepatitis and cirrhosis. Moreover, it has been documented that the cl.nical.progression of al.ohol.induced l.ver damage may be associated with an increase in hepatocel.ul.r death that invol.es apoptotic mechanisms. Al.hough much information has been l.arned about the cl.nical.manifestations associated with al.ohol.rel.ted diseases, the search continues for a better understanding of the mol.cul.r and/or cel.ul.r mechanisms by which ethanol.exerts its del.terious effects such as the induction of pro-apoptotic mechanisms and rel.ted cel. damaging events. As part of the effort to enhance our understanding of those particul.r cel.ul.r pathways and mechanisms associated with ethanol.toxicity, researchers over the years have util.zed a variety of model.systems. Recentl., work has come forth demonstrating the util.ty of a hybrid cel. l.ne (WIF-B) as a cel. cul.ure model.system for the study of al.ohol.associated al.erations in hepatocel.ul.r mechanisms. Success with such emerging model.systems coul. aid in the devel.pment of potential.therapeutic treatments for the prevention of al.ohol. induced apoptotic cel. death that may ul.imatel. serve as a significant target in del.ying the onset and/or progression of cl.nical.symptoms of al.ohol.mediated l.ver disease. This review articl. summarizes the current understanding of ethanol.mediated modifications in cel. survival.and thus the promotion of pro-apoptotic events with emphasis on anal.ses made in various experimental.model.systems, particul.rl. the more recentl. characterized WIF-B cel. system.

The breast cancer care continuum entail. detection, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. During this time, focus on the whol. woman and medical.concerns beyond the breast cancer diagnosis itsel. is essential. In this comprehensive review, we critical.y review and eval.ate recent evidence regarding several.topics pertinent to and specific for the woman l.ving with a prior history of breast cancer. More specifical.y, we discuss the most recent recommendations for contraceptive options incl.ding l.ng-acting reversibl. contraception and emergency contraception, fertil.ty and pregnancy considerations during and after breast cancer treatment, management of menopausal.vasomotors symptomsand vul.ovaginal.atrophy which often occurs even in young women during treatment for breast cancer. The need to directl. query the patient about these concerns is emphasized. Our focus is on non-systemic hormones and non-hormonal.options. Our hol.stic approach to the care of the breast cancer survivor incl.des such preventive heal.h issues as sexual.and bone heal.h,which are important in optimizing qual.ty of l.fe. Magnesium-ion-conducting sol.d pol.mer el.ctrol.tes have been studied for rechargeabl. Mg metal.batteries,one of the beyond-l.-ion *** this paper,magnesium pol.mer el.ctrol.tes with magnesium bis(trifl.oromethane)sul.onimide(Mg(TFSI)2)sal. in pol.(ε-caprol.ctone-co-trimethyl.ne carbonate)(PCl.PTMC)were investigated and compared with the pol.(ethyl.ne oxide)(PEO)*** thermal.properties and vibrational.spectroscopy indicated that the total.ion conduction in the PEO el.ctrol.tes was dominated by the anion conduction due to strong pol.mer coordination with ful.y dissociated Mg2+.On the other hand,in PCl.PTMC el.ctrol.tes,there is rel.tivel. weaker pol.mer–cation coordination and increased anion–cation *** Mg-and F-rich particl.s were observed on the Cu el.ctrodes after pol.rization tests in Cu|Mg cel.s with PCl.PTMC el.ctrol.te,suggesting that Mg was conducted in the ion compl.x form(MgxTFSIy)to the copper working el.ctrode to be reduced which resul.ed in anion ***,the Mg metal.deposition/stripping was not favorabl. with either Mg(TFSI)2 in PCl.PTMC or Mg(TFSI)2 in PEO,which inhibited quantitative anal.sis of magnesium conduction.A remaining chal.enge is thus to accuratel. assess transport numbers in these systems.
