Due to rapid growth of population, urbanization and industrialization, in many cites of the developing world, there is severe contradiction between urban land supply and land demand which resulted in many urban land use conflicting situations and urban environment degrading. This paper is mainly focused on this problem, demonstrating the feasibility and efficiency of environmental study by integrating GIs and environmetal zoning method. Two neighbourhoods of the old city of Wenzhou were chosen as the study area. With the aid of GIs software PC Arc/info as dBate IV, an urhan environmental impact assessment study was carried out based on the data available such as land use map and detailed attribute data of each land planning unit. The main factors taken into consideration include: the type of activity causing environmental stress, the type and strength of environmental impact and the type of receptive area that could be affected.

This paper researches and analyses the critical envirormental situation in the Middle Reaches of the Yellow River and compiles the map of critical environmental situation of this area (1:2,000,000). Five types of environmental situation (Es) are divided, namely, conflict Es, critical Es, crisis Es, disastrous Es and accidental Es and 7 groups of main factors are used to identify and classify the critical environmental situation after considering the speciality of this region and the law of guiding factors. They are pollution, endemic disease, soil erosion, drought and water-shortage, forest degeration, wind-erosion and desertification, and soil salinization. Based on mapping and analysis, the paper also concludes the regional distribution law of critical environmental situation of this region and divides it into 8 small districts through combining the critical envirormental situation, regional distribution law and guiding factors. This can provide scientific basis and reference for preserving and renovating the environments with different fragile types and fragile levels.

In this paper, the relationship of spatial variation betwere horizontal zoneand altitudinal beits of alpine meadow on the Qinghai (Tibetan) Plateau was studiedbased on its lower and upper limit distributions. The intersectin curve bforeen thetrend-suffoces of upper and lower lindt distributions of alpine meadow shows theboundary where alhtudinally distributed alpine meadow starts disappearing towardsthe notheest of the plateau. Ihside the interswi curve between the trend-surfaceof lower limit distnbution of alpine meadow and that of the plateau's base suffoceindicates the ropon where alpine meadow horizontally occurs.

soil erosion in northern shaanxi region has been greatly affected by human activities. On the one hand, newly occurred soil and water loss has been observed due to accelerated soil erosion caused by irrational human economic activities such as excessive reclamation, mining, etc.. On the other hand, great economic, social and ecological benefits have been brought into play due to vast amount of sediment trapping in watershed management as a result of adoption of engineering measures like silt arrester and horizontal terracing and of biological measures like afforestation and grass planting.

Fluvial dynamic landform is produced by reaction between fluvial bchaviour and suffoce matenal. It possesses apparent environmental effects. As a branch of gcomorphology, the fiuvial dynandc gcomorphology is a marginal science among fiuid dynalnics, sediment mechaltics and fluvial goomorphology. With physical modelling by sindlarity based on Newtonian mechanics, and pnnciple of the same effect bot diffend struCture based on systelnahc theory, it is possible to study propenies, formation and processes in fluvial dynamic gcomorphology. A new research method, which is a combination of mathematical simulation by computer with physical modelling will be deveoped.

Air borne spores and pollens were collected by using Durham Pollen sampler from 38 metre building top platform in northern suburb of Beijing and observations were carried out accordingly. Distributed mainly in March to October in a year, both the amount and variations of pollens are affected by air temperature and precipitation in addition to that of florescence. The maximum pollen species are found in May, and the maximum pollen amount is found in early June, and then in september. Pollens of herbs predominate, mostly distributing in May to september. Xylophytes have smaller amount of pollens which are found mostly in March to June. The amount of air borne plant pollen and bacterial spores is much higher in hot sunny days than in the cloudy/rainy days. The alternation of hot sunny days with cloudy/rainy days is most favourable for bacterial spores dispersion.
