LDh sealing for PEO coated friction stir welded AZ31/AA5754 materials

The need to combine various metals in light-weight constructions requires the development of coatings that prevent galvanic corrosion. Layered double hydroxides(LDhs) can be an example of such coatings, which were previously successfully obtained in situ on individual materials. In addition, the possibility of LDh growth(including LDh growth in the presence of chelating agents) on the surface of plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)-coated metals was previously shown. This PEO + LDh combination could improve both corrosion and mechanical characteristics of the system. The possibility of LDhs formation in situ on the surface of PEO-coated friction stir welded(FSW) magnesium-aluminum materials(AZ31/AA5754 system was selected as a model one) was demonstrated in the presence of 1,3-diamino-2-hydroxypropane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid(DhPTA) as a chelating agent, which was selected based on analysis of respective metal-ligand compounds stability. LDhs growth was achieved under ambient pressure without addition of carbonates in the electrolyte. The effectiveness of the resulting coating is shown both for corrosion resistance and hardness.

ERROR REDUCTION IN ADAPTIVE FINITE ELEMENT APPROXIMATIONS OF ELLIPTIC OBSTACLE PROBLEMS

We consider an adaptive finite element method （AFEM） for obstacle problems associated with linear second order elliptic boundary value problems and prove a reduction in the energy norm of the discretization error which leads to R-linear convergence. This result is shown to hold up to a consistency error due to the extension of the discrete multipliers （point functionals） to h^-1 and a possible mismatch between the continuous and discrete coincidence and noncoincidence sets. The AFEM is based on a residual-type error estimator consisting of element and edge residuals. The a posteriori error analysis reveals that the significant difference to the unconstrained case lies in the fact that these residuals only have to be taken into account within the discrete noncoincidence set. The proof of the error reduction property uses the reliability and the discrete local efficiency of the estimator as well as a perturbed Galerkin orthogonality. Numerical results are given illustrating the performance of the AFEM.

Monitoring of central corneal thickness after phacoemulsification—comparison of statical and rotating Scheimpflug pachymetry,and spectral-domain OCT

Oxygen tolerance capacity of upflow anaerobic solid-state(UASS) with anaerobic filter(AF) system

In order to investigate the oxygen tolerance capacity of upflow anaerobic solid-state（UASS）with anaerobic filter（AF） system, the effect of microaeration on thermophilic anaerobic digestion of maize straw was investigated under batch conditions and in the UASS with AF system. Aeration intensities of 0–431 m L O2/gvswere conducted as pretreatment under batch conditions. Aeration pretreatment obviously enhanced anaerobic digestion and an aeration intensity of 431 m L O2/gvsincreased the methane yield by 82.2%. Aeration intensities of 0–355 m L O2/gvswere conducted in the process liquor circulation of the UASS with AF system. Dissolved oxygen（DO） of UASS and AF reactors kept around 1.39 ±0.27 and 0.99 ± 0.38 mg/L, respectively. p h was relatively stable around 7.11 ± 0.04. Volatile fatty acids and soluble chemical oxygen demand concentration in UASS reactor were higher than those in AF reactor. Methane yield of the whole system was almost stable at 85 ± 7 m L/gvs as aeration intensity increased step by step. The UASS with AF system showed good oxygen tolerance capacity.

In-situ incorporation of layered double hydroxides(LDh)nanocontainers into plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)coatings on AZ91 Mg alloy has been achieved in the present *** was selected as Mg corrosion inhibitor for exchange and intercalation into the nanocontainers,which were subsequently incorporated into the *** was found that the thickness and compactness of the coatings were increased in the presence of LDh *** corrosion protection performance of the blank PEO,LDh containing PEO and inhibitor loaded coatings was evaluated by means of polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).The degradation process and corrosion resistance of PEO coating were found to be greatly affected by the loaded inhibitor and nanocontainers by means of ion-exchange when corrosion occurs,leading to enhanced and stable corrosion resistance of the substrate.

A complete compilation of matrix metalloproteinase expression in human malignant gliomas

Glioblastomas are characterized by an aggressive local growth pattern, a marked degree of invasiveness and poor prognosis. Tumor invasiveness is facilitated by the increased activity of proteolytic enzymes which are involved in destruction of the extracellular matrix of the surrounding healthy brain tissue. Elevated levels of matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs) were found in glioblastoma(GBM) cell-lines, as well as in GBM biopsies as compared with low-grade astrocytoma(LGA) and normal brain samples, indicating a role in malignant progression. A careful review of the available literature revealed that both the expression and role of several of the 23 human MMP proteins is controversely discussed and for some there are no data available at all. We therefore screened a panel of 15 LGA and 15 GBM biopsy samples for those MMPs for which there is either no, very limited or even contradictory dataavailable. hence, this is the first complete compilation of the expression pattern of all 23 human MMPs in astrocytic tumors. This study will support a better understanding of the specific expression patterns and interaction of proteolytic enzymes in malignant human glioma and may provide additional starting points for targeted patient therapy.
