The evolution of the microstructure and texture with strain during compression at 150℃ of the magnesium alloy AZ31 has been investigated using the electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) technique. The initial samples were chosen to have a strong basal plane texture with the crystal c-axes perpendicular to the compression direction. The EBSD data provide evidence concerning the relative activity of both {10-12} extension twinning and slip, and suggest that non-basal slip is important in samples deformed to a strain of more than 0.2. The relative contributions of the twinning and the slip during deformation have been discussed based on the results above.

Voids(referred to as "stopes") are generally created during underground mining activities and can lead to both local and regional geotechnical instabilities. To assist in managing the stability of mining-related voids and improving the recovery of orebodies, tailing-based backfill technology has been widely used around the world. In the design of tailing-based backfill strategy, the specific function and engineering requirements of the filling are intimately dependent on the stress distribution within the backfilled stope. In this paper, the main mechanics involved in tailing-based backfill in underground mines, which include arching, consolidation, hydration process, and movement of surrounding rocks, are reviewed. Research on the safety of a barricade and stability of an exposed fill face are also presented. In conclusion, the backfilling process should be performed on the basis of a better understanding of the complicated interactions of the mechanisms of filling, consolidation, and hydration process(when cement is added).

High-density well-aligned ZnO nanorods were successfully synthesized on ZnO-buffer-layer coated indium phosphide (InP) (100) substrates by a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method. Scanning electron microscopy images show that the ZnO buffer layer formed uniform drip-like structure and ZnO nano- rods were well-oriented perpendicular to the substrate surface. The sharp diffraction peak observed at 34.46° in X-ray diffraction scanning pattern suggests that the ZnO nanorods exhibit a (002)-preferred orientation. The PL spectra of ZnO samples shows a strong near band edge emission centered at about 380 nm and a weak deep level emission centered at around 495 nm, and it demonstrates that the ZnO nanorods produced in this work have high optical quality, which sheds light on further applications for nanodevices.

Vortices are whirling disturbances,commonly found in nature,ranging from tremendously small scales in Bose-Einstein condensations to cosmologically colossal scales in spiral *** optical vortex,generally associated with a spiral phase,can carry orbital angular momentum(OAM).The optical OAM can either be in the longitudinal direction if the spiral phase twists in the spatial domain or in the transverse direction if the phase rotates in the spatiotemporal *** this article,we demonstrate the intersection of spatiotemporal vortices and spatial vortices in a wave *** a result of this intersection,the wave packet hosts a tilted OAM that provides an additional degree of freedom to the applications that harness the OAM of photons.

An analytical solution for evaluating the safety of an exposed face in a paste backfill stope incorporating the arching phenomenon

In current underground mining, the stability of the exposed backfill face is a basic issue associated with mining design and has been the subject of considerable research in mining safety and efficiency. In this study, an improved analytical solution for evaluating the safety of vertically exposed faces in backfilling was proposed. Based on a differential slice method, the proposed solution emphasizes the arching effect as having the advantages of more rigor and wider scalability. Feasibility of the proposed solution was validated with classic centrifuge results. Good agreement between compared results indicated that the proposed solution skillfully predicts the behavior of the paste centrifuge model. Additionally, calculation of exposed face safety in sequential filling was presented. The proposed solution has practical significance in mine backfill design.
