Exploring behavioral traits over different contexts in four species of Australian funnel-web spiders

Australian funnel-web spiders are arguably the most venomous spiders in the world,with much research focusing on this aspect of their ***,other aspects related to their life history,ecology and behaviour have been *** the first time,we assessed *** risk-taking behaviour,aggressiveness and activity in the contexts of predation,conspecific tolerance and exploration of a new territory in four species of Australian funnel-web spiders:two are closely related,Hadronyche valida and ***,and two have overlapping distributions but occupy different habitats,*** and Atrax *** also compared behaviors between *** the species level,we found that *** showed consistency in risk-taking behavior when exposed to a predator stimulus,aggressiveness against conspecifics,and exploration of a new *** contrast,in the other species,only *** showed repeatability in the context of exploration of a new *** results suggest that some behavioral traits are likely more flexible than others,and that the repeatability of behaviors may be species-specific in *** we compared species,we found differences in risk-taking behavior and *** study provides novel insights to understanding variation in behavioral traits within and between species of funnel-web spiders,suggesting that some behavioral traits are likely context and/or species dependent,as a result of their evolutionary *** findings provide key insights for understanding the ecological role of behavior and venom deployment in venomous animals,and a greater understanding of behavior in these medically significant and iconic spiders thatareof conservation concern.

Probiotic bacteria have well-established beneficial ef-fects in the management of diarrhoeal *** evidence suggests that probiotics have the potential to reduce the risk of developing inflammatory bowel diseases and intestinal bacterial overgrowth after gut *** liver health,the main benefits of probiotics might occur through preventing the production and/or uptake of lipopolysaccharides in the gut,and therefore reducing levels of low-grade *** immune stimulation by probiotics through processes involving dendritic cells might also be beneficial to the host immunological status and help prevent pathogen *** fat metabolism also seems to be influenced by the presence of commensal bacteria,and potentially by probiotics;although the mechanisms by which probiotic might act on the liver are still ***,this might be of major importance in the fu-ture because low-grade inflammation,hepatic fat infil-tration,and hepatitis might become more prevalent as a result of high fat intake and the increased prevalence of obesity.

Anther and pollen development:A conserved developmental pathway

Pollen development is a critical step in plant development that is needed for successful breeding and seed formation. Manipulation of male fertility has proved a useful trait for hybrid breeding and increased crop yield. However, although there is a good understanding developing of the molecular mechanisms of anther and pollen anther development in model species, such as Arabidopsis and rice, little is known about the equivalent processes in important crops. Nevertheless the onset of increased genomic information and genetic tools is facilitating translation of information from the models to crops, such as barley and wheat; this will enable increased understanding and manipulation of these pathways for agricultural improvement.

The description and understanding of plant communities is fundamental for the implementation of conservation or restoration programs, especially when these communities are highly threatened and need to be *** rupestres, some Neotropical mountain grasslands located in central Brazil and part of the Cerrado biome(covering 2 million km2) host unique plant communities, currently threatened by quarrying and *** grassy matrix of campos rupestres, has long been considered a rich mosaic under the control of local topography and the nature of substrate, but this affirmation has not been well *** analyzed whether plant communities varied in relation to edaphic factors within the stony substrate and the sandy substrate of this grassy *** selected 5 sites where occur both grasslands on stony substrate and on sandy substrate, and we carried out vegetation surveys and soil *** counted 222 plant species within our communities, among which38.6% are exclusively found on campos *** results show that both soil-types are strongly acidic, nutrient poor and exhibit a seasonal *** increases and p H and organic carbon decrease during the dry *** soils areslightly richer in nutrients than sandy soils and differences in soil granulometry and composition have led to the formation of distinct plant *** species are confined to either one or the other grassland-type, which makes the plant composition of each community *** in edaphic factors generate heterogeneous grasslands favorable to a high plant *** programs and restoration actions have to maintain or recreate this *** presence of distinct plant communities implies that different strategies might be adopted to improve the restoration of these ecosystems.

Iron Oxides and Their Relations to Colors in Some Soilsof Southern China

Iron oxides from 33 samples of 25 soils derived from various parent materials in the southern China were studied using NaOH selective dissolution technique and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Goethite and hematite were the only two crystalline fe oxides occurring in a significant quantity. The goethite / (goethite + hematie )ratios ranged from 0 to 1, being the highest in yellow soil, some yellow-red soils and saprolite samples and the lowest in soils derived from purple sandstone where only hematite was present. Al substitution in goethite ranged from 6.6 to 29.9 mol % with a mean value of 16.7 mol %, while substitution of Al in hematite ranged from 0 to 12.1 mol %. The values of Al substitution of hematite in coexisting goethite and hematite were closely related with corresponding values of goethite (r=0.7292, Pf soils increased linearly with increasing amount of hematite (r=0.8109, Pf soils.

Purpose:The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a 17-week,3-component lifestyle intervention for enhancing health behaviors during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)***:A parallel-group(intervention and control)study was conducted amongst 79 airline pilots over a 17-week period during the COVID-19 *** intervention group(n=38)received a personalized sleep,dietary,and physical activity(PA)*** control group(n=41)received no *** measures for sleep,fruit and vegetable intake,PA,and subjective health were measured though an online survey before and after the 17-week *** changes in outcome measures were used to determine the efficacy of the ***:Significant main effects for time￡group were found for International Physical Activity Questionnaire-walk(p=0.02)and for all other outcome measures(pficantly improved in sleep duration(pfruit and vegetable intake(pform 12v2 physical score(pform 12v2 mental score(pficant negative change for sleep duration,Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score,and Short form 12v2 mental score(pf life during an unprecedented global pandemic.

Thermally insulating robust carbon composite foams with high EMI shielding from natural cotton

Thermally insulating and fire-resistant carbon composite foams are prepared by consolidating natural cotton fibre dispersed in aqueous sucrose solution by filter-pressing followed by drying and *** compressive strength(5 kPa to 1.4 MPa)and thermal conductivity(0.069 to 0.185 W m^(-1)K^(-1))depend on the foam density(0.06 to 0.31 g cm^(-3))which is modulated by varying the sucrose solutions concentration(100 to 700 g L^(-1)).Partially flexible to the rigid transition of the carbon composite foams occurs at sucrose concentration above 200 g L^(-1).The tubular carbon fibre formed from cotton is welded at their contact points by the amorphous carbon produced from sucrose leading to partial flexibility at low sucrose concentration and advancement of fibre-to-fibre bonding area at higher sucrose concentration results in rigid *** porosity in the inter-fibre space and lumen of the carbonized cotton fibre contributes to the low thermal *** carbon composite foams prepared at a sucrose solution concentration of 500 g L^(-1) and above are amenable to machining using conventional machines and *** rigid carbon foams show EMI shielding effectiveness and specific shielding effectiveness in the ranges of 21.5 to 38.9 d B and 108-138 dB cm^(3) g^(-1),respectively.

The coupled magnetorheological (MR) damping system addressed in this paper contains rubber spring and magnetorheological damper. The device inherits the damping merits of both the rubber spring and the magnetorheological damper. Here a fractional-order constitutive equation is introduced to study the viscoelasticity of the combined damper. An introduction to the definitions of fractional calculus, and the transfer function representation of a fractional-order system are given. The fractional-order system model of a magnetorheological vibration platform is set up using fractional calculus, and the function of displacement is presented. It is indicated that the fractional-order constitutive equation and the transfer function are feasible and effective means for investigating of magnetorheological vibration device. © 2014 Chinese Association of Automation.
