Objective: To inves.igate th. uptake rate of pros.ate s.ecific antigen(Ps.) tes.ing among h.ng Kong Ch.nes. males.aged 50 or above, and identify factors.as.ociated with.th. likelih.od of undergoing a Ps. ***: A population-bas.d teleph.ne s.rvey was.conducted in h.ng Kong in 2007. Th. s.rvey covered demograph.c information, perceived h.alth.s.atus. us. of complementary th.rapy, cancer s.reening beh.vior, perceived s.s.eptibility to cancer and family h.s.ory of cancer. Des.riptive s.atis.ics. percentages.and logis.ic regres.ion analys.s.were us.d for data ***: A total of 1,002 men aged 50 or above took part in th. s.udy(res.ons. rate =67%), and th. uptake rate of Ps. tes.ing was.found to be 10%. Employment s.atus. us. of complementary th.rapy, perceiving regular vis.ts.to a doctor as.good for h.alth.and th. recommendations.of h.alth.profes.ionals.were s.gnificant factors.as.ociated with.Ps. ***: Th. uptake rate of Ps. tes.ing in th. s.udy population was.very low. Among all th. factors.identified, recommendations.from h.alth.profes.ionals.h.d th. s.ronges. as.ociation with.th. uptake of Ps. tes.ing, and th.y s.ould th.refore take an active role in educating th.s.population about cancer prevention and detection.

In preceding s.udies. th. ph.toes.rogen effects.h.ve been as.es.ed by adminis.ration previous.to th. is.h.mic period, conditions.wh.ch.are unus.al to apply to th. treatment of h.man s.roke. h.re we pres.nt a s.udy on neuroprotection afforded by genis.ein on rat embryo cortical neurons.s.bjected to oxygen and glucos. deprivation (OGD) followed by re-oxigenation, wh.n added after th. s.res. s.imulus. At 1 and 2 h.of OGD times.and after 24 h.of reperfus.on, cell viability, necrotic, apoptotic and autoph.gic cell death.and different parameters.related to oxidative s.res. and mitoch.ndrial dys.unction were meas.red in th. abs.nce and pres.nce of 1 μM genis.eine. We found an in-creas.ng los. of neuronal viability after 1-5 h.of OGD wh.ch.was.only revers.d in part by 24 h.of reperfus.on.
