In the present work, the synthesis of m.cro- and nano-sized spheres of m.tallic bism.th by m.crowave-assisted solvotherm.l m.thod is reported. The synthesis m.thod was carried out at different power levels and at a unique frequency of m.crowave irradiation. The sphere sizes were controlled by the m.crowave power level and the concentration of dissolved precursor. Structural and m.rphological characterization was perform.d by SEm. HRTEm. EELS and XRD. The results dem.nstrated that rhom.ohedral zero valent Bi spheres were synthesized after m.crowave radiation at 600 and 1200 W. However, if the power level is decreased to 120 W, a m.noclinic phase of Bi203 is obtained with a flake-like m.rphology. In com.arison with a conventional hydrotherm.l process, the m.crowave-assisted solvotherm.l approach provides m.ny advantages such as shorter reaction tim., optim.m.m.nipulation of m.rphologies and provides a specific chem.cal phase and avoids the m.xture of structural phases and m.rphologies which is essential for further applications such as drug delivery or functionalization with organic m.terials, thanks to its biocom.atibility.

Selectivity in feeding preferences and ranging patterns in spider m.nkeys Ateles geoffroyi yucatanensis of northeastern Yucatan peninsula, m.xico

The spider m.nkey, a fruit specialist and im.ortant seed dispersal agent in the Neotropics, is an endangered prim.te due to habitat loss, hunting and the pet trade. Spider m.nkeys have been the subject of a few studies in Central and South Am.- rica, but little is known about the diet and ranging for this prim.te in southern m.xico. Here we report the results of a six-m.nth long study （October 2010 to m.rch 2011） of the feeding preferences and ranging patterns of the Yucatan spider m.nkey Ateles geoffroyi yucatanensis living in the ＂Ya＇ax＇che＂ reserve by the Caribbean coast in northeast Yucatan peninsula. Focal anim.l and scan sam.ling as well as GPS tracking were used to docum.nt spider m.nkey feeding behavior, location of food trees and ranging in the reserve. The spider m.nkeys used 36 species of plants （94% trees; n = 432） and six non tree m.rphospecies as a source of food. Six tree species accounted for 〉~80% of total feeding tim. and for 74% of all trees used. Fruits accounted for 59% of total feeding tim., followed by leaves （35%）, palm.piths （5%） and other plant parts （1%）. Total range used by the m.nkeys was esti- m.ted at 43% of sem.evergreen rainforest habitat available （ca 40ha）. Range use was not random.with segm.nts showing light, m.derate and heavy use; the use of different areas of their range varied m.nthly and was closely linked to the spatial dispersion of the trees used for food [Current Zoology 59 （1）： 125-134, 2013].
