Dose of alendronate directly increases trabeculae expansivity without altering bone volume in rat femurs

AIm To evaluate the effects of sodium alendronate on bone repair in fractures created in appendicular bones. mETHODS Wistar rats(n = 36) were allocated into three distinct groups: group C(control), group B1(received 1 mg/kg of alendronate), and group B2(received 3 mg/kg of alendronate). The rats underwent femoral transversal linear fracture surgery using stable internal fixation with a 2.0 mm plate and screw system. Each animal randomly received intraperitoneal applications of sodium alendronate at a dose corresponding to group B1 or B2 three times a week, while the control group received a 0.9% saline solution. Drug administration was performed until euthanasia at 45 d. The femurs were removed and each surgical piece was sent for radiographic, tomographic and microtomographic analysis. Data were submitted to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis(95% confidence interval).RESULTS Quantitative evaluations of bone neoformation did not show differences among the groups in the radiographic(P = 0.341), microtomographic(P = 0.581) and tomographic evaluations(P = 0.171). In the qualitative microtomographic analysis, a smaller distance was observed between the internal bone trabeculae in the groups that used alendronate(P = 0.05). On the other hand, group B2 had a higher amount of bone trabeculae per unit length when compared to the other groups(P = 0.04).CONCLUSION It is likely that the use of alendronate did not have a direct influence on the amount of bone neoformation, however it did influence the bone quality in a dosedependent manner, ultimately affecting the distance and quantity of the trabeculae.

Chronic model of tympanic perforation in rats with mitomycin C and dexamethasone

A rat model of chronic tympanic membrane perforation was developed to be used in the search of new materials for the sealing of these perforations. A longitudinal study was carried out in rats subjected to incisional myr-ingotomy followed by the application of mitomycin C alone or with dexamethasone. Rats were checked at days 3, 7,1 0,1 4 and weekly thereafter until perforation closure, for up to 6 months. The addition of dexamethasone is a key component in order to obtain a chronic opening. myringotomies treated w ith saline had a mean healing time of 8.5 days. At 8 weeks, between 62.5% and 77.7% of tympanic membranes treated w ith mitomycin C and dexamethasone remained perforated and at 6 months this number fell to 21.4%. This technique is able to maintain most tympanic membrane perforations patent for at least 8 weeks. This rat model is adequate for its use in preclinical or translational research.

The foundations for an adult’s authentic and durable dedication in sport or in any kind of motor activity are laid by providing a good quality physical *** means that the choice of learning experiences to be imparted to the child throughout his or her school curriculum,starting from kindergarten,is important and must be not only planned,inclusive and progressive but also,in some way,*** other words,lessons must respond to the children’s needs in order to enhance their motor skills and abilities and their social skills and to give an input on how to lead a physically active life,thus keeping basic motor skills *** research involved the administration of the mobak 5-6 Test on a convenience sample of 31 children(f=12,m=19),aged 10-12 years,in order to analyse the basic motor skills of a group of young *** individual qualitative and quantitative motor repertoire must therefore be built,allowing the child to be able to take the opportunities offered to him or her in both curricular and extracurricular scholastic *** motor skills,with which the child is provided,will also be useful for cultivating correct physical activity habits in later life and must be formed through systematic evaluation of the development of his or her motor skills.
