Introduction: The transmission of HIV from mother to child is reported from 30% to 40% without any intervention [1]. When all the measures for prevention are implemented, including treatment with HAART (Highly Active Antiretroviral Treatment), the rate of infection can be reduced between 1% and 2% [2]. In Guatemala, the statistics demonstrated an estimated of 20,000 women living with HIV virus infection during the period of 2009. In this scenario, mother to child HIV transmission is an important public health fact. In preliminary reports, there is strong evidence of the impact of preventing mother to child transmission with Lopinavir/Ritonavir in Guatemala is showing a small incidence of new HIV infections and good tolerance [3,4]. Objective: To evaluate the effect of HAART with Lopinavir/Ritonavir on the prevention of mother to child transmission (PMCT) in HIV-positive pregnant women at Roosevelt Hospital in Guatemala City. Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis study. The detection of pregnant HIV positive women and the follow up period was from January 2003 to December 2009, and a total of 219 women completed the follow up time. The HIV diagnosis and follow up for the child was made with molecular testing and antibody testing up to 18 months of age or until testing was negative. Adherence was quantified by pill counts. The interventions where offered to all the women in the cohort. Results: Regarding the pregnancy outcome, the study cohort gave a rate of abortion of 2.3%;10.6% of preterm births and 79.6% normal births. Of the 202/219 children born, there was a 1.4% rate of transmission (n = 3). The three infected children were born from mothers with high basal viral loads (xxx C/mL or higher). There were no serious adverse events related to antiretroviral therapy with Lopinavir/Ritonavir, with a 6.1% of non serious adverse events, most of them of gastrointestinal type, and anemia. It has now passed more than forty years since solid-state fermentation(SSF)research developments have gained importance for the scientific *** so many years,numerous processes and equipment for SSF were studied and designed focusing on the production of different commercially relevant bioproducts such as enzymes,fermented food,such as Chinese daqu and koji,organic acids,pigments,phenolic compounds,aromas,biosorbents and so many ***,no review paper has been focused yet specifically on agricultural and animal feed bioproducts obtained through SSF *** review comprises the description of agricultural sub-products that have been employed in most important developed pro-cesses concerning the production of animal feed products and agricultural products such as spores,probiotics,biofungicides,bioinsecticides and other biopesticides,biofertilizers and plant growth *** designed SSF bioreactors are also described and the most important related cases of successful employment of the technique are ***,a summary of patents and innovations regarding SSF products and processes in this area is presented,showing that the main involved countries are China,South Korea,India and the *** is clear that the interest in this theme is increasing and that scientific and technological developments are still needed.

Objective: To establish the prevalence and risk factors of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) among patients with Systemic Hypertension (SH) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in six cities of Colombia. Methods: A cross-sectional study among hypertensive and diabetic patients was conducted in Colombia. This study included 2067 subjects older than 50 years of age diagnosed with SH and/or DM. Participants underwent a complete ophthalmic examination including intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement by Goldmann tonometry and blood pressure measurement. The glaucoma diagnosis was confirmed by structural and functional evidence. Interviews and standardized questionnaires were used to evaluate participants’ lifestyle and other health conditions. Results: Among participants with DM/SH, 142 cases of POAG were confirmed for a prevalence of 5.6% [95% CI: 4.6 - 6.6], while 9.1% were glaucoma suspects [95% CI: 7.8% - 10.4%]. The majority of confirmed cases (77.5%) were undiagnosed. The prevalence of POAG was significantly higher with male gender, greater age, and diastolic blood pressure > 90 mmHg as risk factors. Conclusion: We found a high prevalence of POAG in patients with adequate SH and DM care in a novel Latino population. We also found great unawareness of the disease in this population. Our results have potentially enormous public health implications for Colombia and other Latino populations.

This paper proposes a method in order to detect the importance of the input variables in multivariate analysis problems. When there is correlation among predictor variables, the importance of each input variable, when adding variables in the model, can be detected from the knowledge stored in Artificial Neural Network （NN） and it must be taken into account. Neural networks models have been used with the analysis of sensibility, these models predict more accurately the relationship between variables, and it is the way to find a set of forecasting variables in order to be included in the new prediction model. The obtained results have been applied in a system to forecast the volume of wood for a tree, and to detect relationships between input and output variables.

Developing new imaging methods needs to establish some proofs of concept before implementing them on real-time scenarios. Nowadays, the high computational power reached by multi-core CPUs and GPUs have driven the development of software-based beamformers. Taking this into account, a library for the fast generation of ultrasound images is presented. It is based on Synthetic Aperture Imaging Techniques (SAFT) and it is fast because of the use of parallel computing techniques. Any kind of transducers as well as SAFT techniques can be defined although it includes some pre-built SAFT methods like 2R-SAFT and TFM. Furthermore, 2D and 3D imaging (slice- based or full volume computation) is supported along with the ability to generate both rectangular and angular images. For interpolation, linear and polynomial schemes can be chosen. The versatility of the library is ensured by interfacing it to Matlab, Python and any programming language over different operating systems. On a standard PC equipped with a single NVIDIA Quadro 4000 (256 cores), the library is able to calculate 262,144 pixels in ≈105 ms using a linear transducer with 64 elements, and 2,097,152 voxels in ≈ 5 seconds using a matrix transducer with 121 elements when TFM is applied.
