Purpose:This study was aimed to analyze the mediation role of cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF)on the association between fatness and cardiometabolic risk scores(CMRs)in European ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted in adolescents(n=525;46%boys;14.1±1.1 years old,mean ±SD)from 10 European cities involved in the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence *** was measured by means of the shuttle run test,while fatness measures included body mass index(BMI),waist to height ratio,and fat mass index estimated from skinfold thicknesses.A clustered CMRs was computed by summing the standardized values of homeostasis model assessment,systolic blood pressure,triglycerides,total cholesterol/highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol ratio,and ***:Linear regression models indicated that CRF acted as an important and partial mediator in the association between fatness and CMRs in 1217-year-old adolescents(for BMI:coefficients of the indirect role b=0.058(95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.023-0.101),Sobel test z=3.11(10.0%mediation);for waist to height ratio:b=4.279(95%CI:2.242-7.059),z=3.86(11.5%mediation);and for fat mass index:b=0.060(95%CI:0.020-0.106),z=2.85(9.4%mediation);all p<0.01).Conclusion:In adolescents,the association between fatness and CMRs could be partially decreased with improvements to fitness levels;therefore,CRF contribution both in the clinical field and public health could be important to consider and promote in adolescents independently of their fatness levels.

Cost Deployment Tool for Technological Innovation of World Class Manufacturing

This article brings a discussion about using the Cost Deployment methodology for technological innovation in the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) systems at Fiat Group Automobiles Production System (FAPS). It aims to show how this tool acts in the technical pillars of the WCM, and its proper use as an alternative to innovate in production processes, achieving a drastic reduction in wastes and cost optimization during specific activities in production systems. The Cost Deployment builds a distinctive transversal method of WCM which helps to promote and provide extremely effectiveness in the activation of more specific methods that have been tried successfully in the japanese manufacturing improvements. It also allows to link the operational performances, usually measured with indicators such as efficiency, providing number of defects, hours of desaturation. The used methodology was based on a literature review about the proposed topic. It ends up finding that the Cost Deployment tool is one of the most sophisticated technological innovations existing for the production systems of the World Class Manufacturing.

The cold-induced factor CBF3 mediates root stem cell activity,regeneration,and developmental responses to cold

Plant growth and development involve the specification and regeneration of stem cell niches(SCNs).Although plants are exposed to disparate environmental conditions,how environmental cues affect developmental programs and stem cells is not well *** stem cells are accommodated in meristems in SCNs around the quiescent center(QC),which maintains their *** a combination of genetics and confocal microscopy to trace morphological defects and correlate them with changes in gene expression and protein levels,we show that the cold-induced transcription factor(TF)C-REPEAT BINDING FACTOR 3(CBF3),which has previously been associated with cold acclimation,regulates root development,stem cell activity,and ***3 is integrated into the SHORT-ROOT(SHR)regulatory network,forming a feedback loop that maintains SHR ***3 is primarily expressed in the root endodermis,whereas the CBF3 protein is localized to other meristematic tissues,including root *** of cbf3-1 using a wild-type CBF3 gene and a CBF3 fusion with reduced mobility show that CBF3 movement capacity is required for SCN patterning and regulates root ***,cold induces CBF3,affecting QC ***,exposure to moderate cold around 10℃–12℃promotes root regeneration and QC respecification in a CBF3-dependent manner during the recuperation *** contrast,CBF3 does not appear to regulate stem cell survival,which has been associated with recuperation from more acute cold(-4℃).We propose a role for CBF3 in mediating the molecular interrelationships among the cold response,stem cell activity,and development.

Satellite Simulator Control System Design Using SDRE Method

This paper presents the application of the State-Dependent Riccati Equation （SDRE） method in conjunction with Kalman filter technique to design a satellite simulator control system. The performance and robustness of the SDRE controller is compared with the Linear Quadratic Regulator （LQR） controller. The Kalman filter technique is incorporated to the SDRE method to address the presence of noise in the process, measurements and incomplete state estimation. The effects of the plant non-linearities and noises （uncertainties） are considered to investigated the controller performance and robustness designed by the SDRE plus Kalman filter. A general 3-D simulator Simulink model is developed to design the SDRE controller using the states estimated by the Kalman filter. Simulations have demonstrated the validity of the proposed approach to deal with nonlinear system. The SDRE controller has presented good stability, great performance and robustness at the same time that it keeps the simplicity of having constant gain which is very important as for satellite onboard computer implementation.

Martensitic Characterization of the Ti<sub>45.3</sub>Ni<sub>54.7</sub>Melt Spun Alloy

The ribbons of the Ti45.3Ni54.7 shape memory alloy were prepared through the melt spinning technique. The study was focused on investigating the effect of the rapid solidification and grain size at characteristic start martensitic (Ms), final martensitic (Mf), start austenite (As) and final austenite (Af) transformation temperatures. Changes on martensitic transformation temperatures in Ti45Ni55 melt spun ribbons were observed as grain size is reduced. Results of optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to associate grain size with transformation temperatures.

Design and Implementation of an Extended Collectives Library for Unified Parallel C

Unified Parallel C （UPC） is a parallel extension of ANSI C based on the Partitioned Global Address Space （PGAS） programming model, which provides a shared memory view that simplifies code development while it can take advantage of the scalability of distributed memory architectures. Therefore, UPC allows programmers to write parallel applications on hybrid shared/distributed memory architectures, such as multi-core clusters, in a more productive way, accessing remote memory by means of different high-level language constructs, such as assignments to shared variables or collective primitives. However, the standard UPC collectives library includes a reduced set of eight basic primitives with quite limited functionality. This work presents the design and implementation of extended UPC collective functions that overcome the limitations of the standard collectives library, allowing, for example, the use of a specific source and destination thread or defining the amount of data transferred by each particular thread. This library fulfills the demands made by the UPC developers community and implements portable algorithms, independent of the specific UPC compiler/runtime being used. The use of a representative set of these extended collectives has been evaluated using two applications and four kernels as case studies. The results obtained confirm the suitability of the new library to provide easier programming without trading off performance, thus achieving high productivity in parallel programming to harness the performance of hybrid shared/distributed memory architectures in high performance computing.

Dear editor,Vulvar sarcomas are rare and represent 1%–3%of cancers in this region.1 Leiomyosarcoma is the most common type of vulvar *** contrast,epithelioid sarcoma(ES)is extremely rare,accounting for around 1%of soft-tissue vulvar *** the ESs of the vulva,proximal variants tend to have a more aggressive clinical course,in comparison to distal variants.2 The treatment of choice in proximal-type ES of the vulva is surgical resection,usually with surgical margins greater than 2 *** to the extreme rarity of these malignancies,clear algorithms for adjuvant treatment of these tumors have still not been *** and/or chemotherapy may be indicated in some cases.
