Guimarães is a middle sized city and municipality located in northern *** municipality has committed to reducing the annual amount of undifferentiated municipal solid waste(MSW)from 371 kg/capita in 2021 to 120 kg/capita by 2030 under the Zero Waste Cities Certification *** the municipality of Guimarães,one of the constant fractions of MSW composition is textile waste(TW),which the revised EU Waste Framework Directive requires separate collection by 1 January ***,two indicators of TW generation were analysed to identify waste collection routes with a high level of textile waste generation for the priority implementation of separate collection:TW composition in the undifferentiated MSW stream and TW generation per *** statistical analysis methods were used to process the source data of TW composition in the undifferentiated MSW *** analysis was applied to the data set on TW generation per capita,considering the area typology(urban,rural or mixed)of collection *** was considered that 39%of the industrial sector of Guimarães consists of textile and clothing production and represents small-and medium-sized enterprises,which can affect TW generation in the undifferentiated MSW ***-comparative research was used to define the correlation between TW generation per capita and the economic activity of the textile and clothing industry in the *** a result,applying a multi-disciplinary approach,a project of the Textile Waste Generation Map was presented.

Elbows in pneumatic conveying systems are normally prone to the erosive effects of conveyed *** are a number of solutions available to reduce such damage.A widely used geometric alternative for replacing the 90°elbow and reducing erosive wear is the plugged *** option,although less commonly used,is the vortex-chamber *** both cases,the effective reduction in erosion brought about is unclear,as it strongly depends on the operating *** present study assesses relative erosion among the plugged tee,vortex-chamber elbow,and standard elbow for a dilute gas-solid multiphase flow.A numerical model is employed to predict the penetration ratio and validated using experimental data for the plugged *** are run for the standard and vortex-chamber elbows and plugged tee under the same conditions to compare the mechanics involved and the relative erosion *** analysis uses variables relating to particle-wall interactions(impact angle,impact velocity,impact frequency)to illustrate the nature of the erosive process in each pipe *** general,the geometric configurations of both the plugged tee and vortex-chamber elbow promote changes in particle dynamics that reduce the rate of *** the basis of the relative erosion of the standard elbow,the plugged tee proves to be an interesting option in cases of a low mass loading,while the vortex-chamber elbow demonstrates its erosion reduction potential for higher mass loading ***,the advantages and disadvantages of each fitting are highlighted.

The SeridóBelt,at the extreme northeast of Brazil,is one of the several Neoproterozoic mobile belts related to the Brasiliano/Pan-African Orogeny in Western *** lithostratigraphy of the SeridóBelt comprises basal quartzites and metaconglomerates(Equador Formation)overlain by hornblende-bearing paragneisses,calc-silicate rocks and marbles(Jucurutu Formation)and biotiteschists(SeridóFormation).We investigated the sedimentary provenance of these rocks based on an integration of compiled whole-rock geochemistry,Sm-Nd isotopes,U-Pb detrital zircon ages and a new set of whole-rock trace elements *** Formation quartzites have major and trace elements patterns that resemble cratonic sandstones,with a typical felsic provenance consistent with the isotopic composition of plutonic Archean to Paleoproterozoic basement *** proxies suggest that these rocks were deposited in fresh waters under anoxic conditions and moderate to intense weathering conditions(CIA=58–79).A shift in provenance led to an increase in intermediate-mafic sources during the deposition of the Jucurutu and Seridó*** elements from rock types in these units are nearly identical,yet they differ on the contents of some high field-strength elements(e.g.,Sc,V and Ni),which are higher in the SeridóFormation than average *** proxies show similar depositional environments,with brackish to marine conditions for the Jucurutu and Seridóformations under anoxic to euxinic *** conditions are consistently lower in the Jucurutu Formation(CIA=58–66)in comparison with the SeridóFormation(CIA=60–88).Compiled U-Pb data suggest maximum depositional ages of 633±11 Ma and 633±6 Ma for Jucurutu and Seridóformations,respectively,suggesting deposition following the ca.645–635 Ma Marinoan *** compared the geochemistry of the SeridóFormation schists with currently exposed basement rocks and showed a strong affinity with Neoproterozoic arc-related

Prevalence and risk factors for acquired long QT syndrome in the emergency department:a retrospective observational study

BACKGROUND: Long QT syndrome(LQTS) is a heterogeneous syndrome that may be congenital or, more frequently, acquired. The real-world prevalence of acquired LQTS(aLQTS) in the emergency department(ED) remains to be determined. The aim of this study was to determine prevalence of aLQTS and its impact on symptoms on ED ***: Electrocardiograms(ECG) of 5,056 consecutively patients admitted in the ED of a tertiary hospital between January 28th and March 17th of 2020 were reviewed. All patients with aLQTS were included. Clinical data with a focus on QT prolonging drugs and clinical factors were recorded. Statistical comparison was made between the groups with and without corrected QT(QTc) interval greater than 500 ms(value that is considered severely increased).RESULTS: A total of 383 ECGs with prolonged QTc were recognized, corresponding to a prevalence of aLQTS at admission of 7.82%. Patients with aLQTS were more commonly men(53.3%) with an age of(73.49±14.79) years old and QTc interval of(505.3±32.4) ms. Only 20.4% of these patients with aLQTS were symptomatic. No ventricular arrhythmias were recorded. Patients with QT interval greater than 500 ms were more frequently female(59.5%;P<0.001) and were more frequently on QT prolonging drugs(77.3%;P=0.025). Main contributing factor was intake of antibiotics(odds ratio [OR] 4.680) followed by female gender(OR 2.473) and intake of antipsychotics(OR 1.925).CONCLUSION: aLQTS is particularly prevalent in the ED. Female patients on antibiotics and antipsychotics are at particularly high risk. Efforts must be made to avoid, detect and treat aLQTS as early as possible.

Identifying representative days of solar irradiance and wind speed in Brazil using machine learning techniques

The investment levels in electricity production capacity from variable Renewable Energy Sources have substantially grown in Brazil over the last decades,following the worldwide-seeking-goal of a carbon-neutral economy and the country’s incentives in diversifying its generation *** a long-term perspective,the current non-storable capability of renewable energy sources requires an adequate uncertainty characterization over the *** this context,the main objective of this work is to provide a thorough descriptive analytics of the time-linked hourly-based daily dynamics of wind speed and solar irradiance in the main resourceful regions of *** on unsupervised Machine Learning methods,we focus on identifying similar days over the years,Representative Days,that can depict the fundamental underlying behaviour of each *** analysis is based on a historical dataset of different sites with the highest potential and installed capacity of each source spread over the country:three in the Northeast and one in the South Regions,for wind speed;and three in the Northeast and one in the Southeast Regions,for solar *** use two Partitioning Methods(𝐾-Means and𝐾-Medoids),the Hierarchical Ward’s Method,and a Model-Based Method(Self-Organizing Maps).We identified that wind speed and solar irradiance can be effectively represented,respectively,by only two representative days,and two or three days,depending on the region and method(segments data with respect to the intensity of each source).Analysis with higher Representative Days highlighted important hidden patterns such as different wind speed modulations and solar irradiance peak-hours along the days.

＜正＞ The efficiency of phonetic vocoders stems from the fact that the only transmitted information is the index of the recognised units and the corresponding prosodic parameters. Hence, speaker recognisability is one of the main issues in this class of coders. Our approach to minimise this drawback was to include some speaker adaptation capability. The purpose of this paper is two-folded: on one hand, to describe the recognisability and intelligibility tests that were performed with our phonetic vocoder with and without speaker adaptation: on the other hand, to present our recent developments of this coder, using the SpeechDat corpus for Portuguese, that includes telephone calls from 5000 speakers. This allowed us to generate improved HMM models, codebooks, and quantization tables, and to investigate the performance of the coder in non-clean environments and with a much wider speaker population.

Optimal Positioning Strategy for Multi-Camera Zooming Drones

In the context of multiple-target tracking and surveillance applications,this paper investigates the challenge of determining the optimal positioning of a single autonomous aerial vehicle or agent equipped with multiple independently-steerable zooming cameras to effectively monitor a set of targets of *** camera is dedicated to tracking a specific target or cluster of *** key innovation of this study,in comparison to existing approaches,lies in incorporating the zooming factor for the onboard cameras into the optimization *** enhancement offers greater flexibility during mission execution by allowing the autonomous agent to adjust the focal lengths of the onboard cameras,in exchange for varying real-world distances to the corresponding targets,thereby providing additional degrees of freedom to the optimization *** proposed optimization framework aims to strike a balance among various factors,including distance to the targets,verticality of viewpoints,and the required focal length for each *** primary focus of this paper is to establish the theoretical groundwork for addressing the non-convex nature of the optimization problem arising from these *** this end,we develop an original convex approximation *** paper also includes simulations of diverse scenarios,featuring varying numbers of onboard tracking cameras and target motion profiles,to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Cardiac mapping of electrical impedance tomography by means of a wavelet model

To improve the identification of cardiac regions in Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) pulmonary perfusion images, a model of wavelet transform was developed. The main goal was to generate maps of the heart using EIT images in a controlled animal experiment using a healthy pig and in two human volunteers. The model was capable of identifying the heart regions, demonstrated robustness and generated satisfactory results. The pig images were compared to perfusion images obtained using injection of a hypertonic solution and achieved an average area of the ROC curve of 0.88. The human images were qualitatively compared with Computerized Tomography scan (CT-scan) images.

Rock Cutting Analysis Employing Finite and Discrete Element Methods

The petroleum industry has shown great interest in the study of drilling optimization on pre-salt formations given the low rates of penetration observed so far. Rate of penetration is the key to economically drill the pre-salt carbonate rock. This work presents the results of numerical modeling through finite element method and discrete element method for single cutter drilling in carbonate samples. The work is relevant to understand the mechanics of drill bit-rock interaction while drilling deep wells and the results were validated with experimental data raised under simulated downhole conditions. The numerical models were carried out under different geometrical configurations, varying the cutter chamfer size and back-rake angles. The forces generated on the cutter are translated into mechanical specific energy as this parameter is often used to measure drilling efficiency. Results indicate that the chamfer size does not change significantly the mechanical specific energy values, characteristic. Results also show there is a significant increase although the cutter aggressiveness is influenced by this geometrical in drilling resistance for larger values of back-rake angle.

Avian responses to an extreme weather event:The case of the‘Filomena’snowstorm in Madrid(central Spain)

Cold spells and severe weather may have detrimental effects in wild birds,but owing to the stochastic nature of these events,it is not always possible to measure their *** January 2021,a strong snowstorm known as‘Filomena’affected Spain,mainly the region of Madrid(Central Spain),which was fully covered with snow and suffered freezing temperatures for a *** bird surveys conducted in the winter-spring of 2020 and 2021(before and after Filomena)at same locations,we addressed the possible impact of the cold spell in three widespread gamebirds:Wood Pigeon(Columba palumbus),Eurasian Magpie(Pica pica)and Red-legged Partridge(Alectoris rufa).No significant abundance differences were found between years for none of the species and hunting pressure was only significantly reduced for Partridges,hence this species may have been negatively affected by *** suggest that in response to Filomena,Pigeons conducted partial migration in search of better conditions,while Magpies aggregated in certain areas of Madrid and Partridges endured the harsh conditions within their home *** results highlight the importance to alleviate negative impacts of extreme weather events in wild birds through management actions,especially for sedentary species.
