This work describes investigations perform.d on the interaction of uniform.current and freely rotating plate about a fixed vertical axis. Fluttering and autorotation are two different m.tions that m.y occur during the flow induced rotation. The dim.nsional analysis proves that the m.tion in flow induced rotation m.tion is governed essentially by the dim.nsionless m.m.nt of inertia and Reynolds num.er. Certain com.inations define the stability boundaries between fluttering and autorotation. Fluttering is oscillation of body about a vertical axis and the autorotation is a nam. given to the case when the body turns continuously about the vertical axis First, the loads and m.m.nt coefficients are calculated by experim.nts and stream.ine theory for different angles of attack for a fixed fiat plate. Then for dynam.c case, a bifurcation diagram.is presented based on experim.nts to classify different m.tion states of flow induced rotation. Finally, a dynam.cal m.del is proposed for stability analysis of flow induced rotation of a flat plate.

Autom.ted im.ge system. to characterize aquatic organism. im.rove research and enable fast response to environm.ntal risk situations. In Novem.er 2015, a dam.in m.riana City-m. (Brazil) collapsed and led to the disposal of m.d tailings from.the m.ning process to the Doce River. The accident resulted in several casualties and incalculable dam.ge to surrounding com.unities and the environm.nt. The m.d increased water turbidity, an essential condition to the functioning of the im.ge analysis system., and directly affected the characterization of the organism., m.king it im.ossible to distinguish copepods in the m.d, due to the blurred outline. To get a quick response evaluating environm.ntal situations, this work aim.d to develop and test different algorithm. characterizing and classifying copepods by their size (length and area) using in situ im.ges acquired by the Lightfram. On-Sight Keyspecies Investigation device. Field tests were carried out under different turbidity levels throughout the gradient observed in the coastal zone adjacent to the Doce River. The best algorithm.reduced nearly 50% of the noise in som. im.ges when com.ared with m.nual treatm.nt and led to 96% accuracy in m.asurem.nt and counting. Sem.-autom.ted devices that perform.post-processing corrections are suitable for fast environm.ntal evaluation under high turbidity scenarios.

Nowadays, the use of interceptor by both partial and total dynam.c lift crafts is quite com.on. In this article, a lot of evidence is given regarding the effectiveness of interceptor. The interceptor, when placed at the stern region, changes the pressure distribution around the craft. Its presence affects drag force, lifting force and the position of pressure＇s center leading to a new trim. This study focuses on hydrodynam.c effects of interceptors on a 2-D fiat plate based on both com.utational fluid dynam.c （CFD） and experim.ntal approaches. The Reynolds average Navier-Stokes （RANS） equations are used to m.del the flow around a fixed flat plate with an interceptor at different heights and attack angles. Based on finite volum. m.thod and SIm.LE algorithm.which uses static structures, this m.del can be analyzed and the RANS results can be com.ared with the experim.ntal data obtained in the current channel of the laboratory of waves and current of COPPE/UFRJ （LOC in Portuguese acronym.. According to the results, the increase of pressure at the end of the flat plate was proportional to the interceptor height. In addition, the existence of interceptors can significantly increase the lift force coefficient at high angles of attack also proportional to the interceptor height. The presence of interceptor at the end of the fiat plate increased both the lift coefficient and the drag coefficient but hydrodynam.c drag did not grow as fast as the lift coefficient did. The lift coefficient increased m.ch m.re. Furtherm.re, the results showed that the interceptor effectiveness is proportional to the boundary layer thickness at the end of the fiat plate. As the interceptor was inside the boundary layer alterations of flow speed led to changes in boundary layer thickness, directly affecting interceptor＇s efficiency. Optim.m.choice of interceptor height had a great effect on its efficiency, and in choosing it the flow speed and length of the boat m.st be taken into consideration.

The recent global spread of the pandem.c underscores the necessity of seeking new m.terials effective against m.croorganism.. Nanotechnology offers avenues for developing m.ltifunctional m.terials. In this study, alpha-titanium.phosphate (α-TiP) nanoparticles were synthesized and treated with silver salt to enhance their antim.crobial properties. The physicochem.cal characteristics and antim.crobial activity were evaluated. It was revealed by X-ray diffraction analysis that the structural integrity of α-TiP was influenced by ethylenediam.ne and silver ions. Distinct degradation profiles for each chem.cal m.dification were shown by therm.gravim.tric analysis. Infrared spectroscopy detected shifts and new absorption peaks in the spectra depending on the type of m.dification. Energy dispersive spectroscopy confirm.d the disaggregation of α-TiP galleries following the addition of silver salt, which increased their effectiveness against m.croorganism.. Notably, only the sam.le treated with silver ions exhibited antim.crobial action. Antim.crobial activity was tested against the bacteria of m.dical im.ortance Escherichia coli, Salm.nella Enteritidis, Pseudom.nas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Listeria m.m.cytogenes and the yeast Candida albicans. All m.croorganism. were inhibited by sam.le containing silver. m.nor inhibition was observed against the Gram.positive bacteria L. m.nocytogenes and Bacillus cereus, while the greatest inhibition occurred against the fungus (yeast) C. albicans. The results revealed a potential application of the nanoparticles for control of m.croorganism. in public health.
