Cancer is a m.jor public health issue worldwide, especially in the developing world where 70% of the cancer-related deaths occur. During the last three decades, with the advent of targeted therapies using m.noclonal antibodies, patients’ survival and quality of life have dram.tically im.roved. Unfortunately, these great accom.lishm.nts cam. at the expense of high financial costs which m.st of the population living in low-and m.ddle-incom. countries cannot afford. Biosim.lars (biotherapeutic products that are sim.lar to an already licensed reference biotherapeutic product in term. of quality, safety and efficacy) have been successfully used in Europe and in US with a substantial reduction in price of around 30%. Brazil is about to have trastuzum.b as the first biosim.lar available to treat cancer patients in the country. Based on strict regulatory legislations, biosim.lars are expected to deliver affordable yet effective and safe treatm.nt options all over the world, expanding the access to cancer treatm.nt and reducing inequalities.

Hem.rrhagic com.lications related to bone m.rrow aspiration and trephine biopsy are uncom.on. Risk factors include throm.ocytopenia, m.eloproliferative disorders, concurrent use of anticoagulants, and obesity. Here we describe our technique for bone m.rrow aspiration and biopsy of the posterior iliac crest using CT guidance. Our technique ensures needle passage only through subcutaneous fat and bone, avoiding m.scle and neurovascular structures, as well as controlled and precise needle advancem.nt within bone. This technique should be considered for use in patients that are at increased risk for procedure related com.lications, particularly obese patients, where surface anatom.cal landm.rks m.y prove unreliable.

Grain Yield and Protein Content of Brazilian Cowpea Genotypes under Diverse Ugandan Environm.nts

Twenty nine cowpea genotypes, including four Ugandan genotypes, were evaluated for grain yield, protein stability and adaptability under diverse environm.nts in a random.zed com.lete block design with three replications. The analysis showed that cowpea grain yield and protein content were significantly (P m.nts (E), and interaction (G x E). Genotypes C2T and C2I had the highest grain yield and protein content respectively, but both were only adapted to specific environm.nts. Genotypes C1J, C1V, C2A, C2O, and C2R were adapted to three environm.nts with high yield which was stable. Sim.larly, genotypes BRS Pujante, C1J, C2Q and CIT also expressed high protein levels with high stability and wide adaptability. The study further revealed that Nam.longe 2014B, Serere 2014A, Serere 2014B and Serere were the m.st favorable environm.nts for obtaining high yield and protein respectively, because at these four environm.nts, m.an yield and protein were higher than the overall m.an. All Brazilian genotypes had high protein levels com.ared to Ugandan genotypes indicating the potential of Brazilian genotypes in im.roving cowpea seed protein content in Uganda.
