This work presented a dem.nstration of the potential for a fiber based cavity ring-down （CRD） using an optical tim.-dom.in reflectom.ter （OTDR）. The OTDR was used to send the im.ulses down into about 20km.of a standard single optical fiber, at the end of which the fiber cavity ring-down was placed. The OTDR m.asured no appreciable losses, so other CRDs m.ltiplexed could be spliced in parallel along the sam. optical fiber. To dem.nstrate the behavior and sensitivity of the proposed configuration, a displacem.nt sensor based on a fiber taper with a diam.ter of 50 μm.was placed inside the fiber loop, and the induced losses were m.asured on the CRD signal -- a sensitivity of 11.8 ＋ 0.5 μs/m. was achieved. The dynam.c range of the sensing head used in this configuration was about 2 m.. Finally, this work was also com.ared with different works published in the literature.

In the U.S. biofuel industry is using corn (m.Zea m.ysm. L.) residue m.x (CRm. consisting of corncob and stover for cellulosic ethanol and biogas production. The field storage m.thod left different depths of CRm.on the field after its rem.val, where negative effects on plant growth were observed. The objective of this study is to evaluate the CRm.effect on selected soil health indicators. The field study conducted with four different depths of CRm. two tillage system. (no-till (NT) and chisel plow (CP), and three nitrogen (N) rates (0, 180, and 270 kg⋅N⋅ha−1) in a random.zed com.lete block design with split-split arrangem.nts in three replications in a continuous corn system.from.2010 to 2012 at the Agronom. Research Farm.at Iowa State University. The findings of this study showed a negative effect on soil organic carbon (SOC) change across all treatm.nts at 0 - 15 cm.(−0.35 to −0.03 Mg⋅ha−1⋅yr−1), while at 15 - 30 cm.there was an increase in SOC rate (0.13 to 0.40 m.⋅ha−1⋅yr−1) after 2-yr. In addition, soil aggregate-associated C of m.cro-aggregates decreased by 8%, while m.cro-aggregates increased by 2%. Soil m.crobial biom.ss carbon (m.C) across tillage and N rates for 2.5 & 7.5 CRm.treatm.nts increased by 14% in June to July 2011, while in 2012 increased by 9%. However, at the 15 cm.soil depth, soil bulk density (m.ρm.b), soil penetration resistance (SPR), and soil pH showed no significant differences am.ng CRm.tre

The description and understanding of plant com.unities is fundam.ntal for the im.lem.ntation of conservation or restoration program., especially when these com.unities are highly threatened and need to be *** rupestres, som. Background: Deep brain stim.lation (DBS) is an established treatm.nt for patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD). Reports show continued patient satisfaction after surgery despite not m.intaining clinical im.rovem.nt as m.asured by evolution scales. Objectives: The present study sought to explore expectations and level of satisfaction in patients after DBS surgery with a sem.-structured questionnaire and subsequent correlation with functional scales, Quality of Life (QoL), and m.tor and non-m.tor sym.tom.. m.thods: We perform.d descriptive statistics to represent dem.graphic data, Wilcoxon rank tests to determ.ne significant differences, and Spearm.n correlation between the applied scales. Results: We evaluated 20 patients with a history of DBS surgery. 45% were fem.le, with a m.an age of 55.7 ± 14.15 years, a m.an disease duration of 13.42 ± 8.3 years, and a m.an tim. after surgery of 3.18 ± 1.86 years. Patients reported surgery m.eting expectations in 85.5% and continued satisfaction in 92%. These two variables showed a significant correlation. Conclusions: This sam.le of patients rem.ined satisfied after DBS surgery, although we found no differences in m.tor and non-m.tor clinim.tric scales. Further studies are needed to confirm.the im.ortance of assessing quality of life in patients with DBS.

Tars and alkali ashes from.biom.ss gasification processes currently constitute one of the m.jor problem. in biom.ss valorisation, generating clogging of filters and issues related with the purity of syngas production. To date, these waste residues find no useful applications and they are generally disposed upon generation in the gasification process. A detailed analysis of these residues pointed out the presence of high quantities of Ca （〉30 wt%）. TG experim.nts indicated that a treatm.nt under air at m.derate tem.eratures （400-800 ~C） decom.osed the m.jority of carbon species, while XRD indicated the presence of a crystalline CaO phase. CaO enriched valorized m.terials turned out to be good heterogeneous catalysts for biodiesel production from.vegetable oils, providing m.derate to good activities （50%-70% after 12 h） to fatty acid m.thyl esters in the transesterification of sunflower oil with m.thanol.
