A building energy models calibration methodology based on inverse modelling approach

Nowadays,building energy models(BEMs)are widely used,particularly in the assessment of energy consumption in buildings to address the potential savings that can be *** realisation of a dynamic energy model based on high-fidelity physics(white-box models)requires a tuning process to fit the model to reality,due to many uncertainties *** some research trends try to reduce this performance gap by modulating different types of experimental parameters such as:capacitances or *** EnergyPlus simulation software,in its latest versions,has implemented an object:HybridModel:Zone that calculates the infiltration and internal mass of buildings using an inverse modelling approach that employs only the measured indoor temperature data to invert the heat balance equation for the zone under *** main objective of this paper is to reduce the execution time and uncertainties in the development of quality energy models by generating a new calibration methodology that implements this *** uses,as a starting point,a research created by the authors of this study,which was empirically and comparatively validated against the energy models developed by the participants in Annex *** is also worth highlighting the empirical validation of the HybridModel:Zone object,since it was activated in all scenarios where its execution is possible:periods of seven days or more of free oscillation and periods in which the building is under *** findings are *** data generated with the new methodology,if compared with those produced by the baseline model,improve their resemblance to the real ones by 22.9%.While those of its predecessor did it by 15.6%.For this study,the two dwellings foreseen in Annex 58 of the IEA ECB project have been modelled and their real monitoring data have been used.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder characterized by upper and lower motor neuron degeneration, which leads to progressive paralysis of skeletal muscles and, ultimately, respiratory failure between 2–5 years after symptom onset. Unfortunately, currently accepted treatments for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are extremely scarce and only provide modest benefit. As a consequence, a great effort is being done by the scientific community in order to achieve a better understanding of the different molecular and cellular processes that influence the progression and/or outcome of this neuropathological condition and, therefore, unravel new potential targets for therapeutic intervention. Interestingly, a growing number of experimental evidences have recently shown that, besides its well-known physiological roles in the developing and adult central nervous system, the Wnt family of proteins is involved in different neuropathologica conditions, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. These proteins are able to modulate, at least, three different signaling pathways, usually known as canonical(β-catenin dependent) and non-canonical(β-catenin independent) signaling pathways. In the present review, we aim to provide a general overview of the current knowledge that supports the relationship between the Wnt family of proteins and its associated signaling pathways and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis pathology, as well as their possible mechanisms of action. Altogether, the currently available knowledge suggests that Wnt signaling modulation might be a promising therapeutic approach to ameliorate the histopathological and functional deficits associated to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and thus improve the progression and outcome of this neuropathology.

Compositionally zoned plutons, both layered and concentrically arranged, provide granitic exposures where the mechanisms and timing of the magmatic emplacement processes can be studied. The importance of in-situ geochemical differentiation and the magma replenishment rates are revealed by geochemistry and field relations, together with the increasingly accurate U-Pb geochronology, which has promoted the knowledge about the pluton incremental assembly *** Flamenco pluton, located in the Coastal Range of northern Chile, is part of the Upper Triassic to Early Cretaceous Andean intrusives formed in the western active margin of South America, and present a normal zoned structure with mafic magmatic facies(mostly gabbros and Qtz-diorites) close to the contacts with the host metasediments, and tonalites, granodiorites and granites in the inner areas. A combined study of the field relations, geochemistry and zircon geochronology of the magmatic facies was applied to determine the emplacement sequence of the Flamenco pluton, revealing three distinguishable domains separated by metasedimentary septa. The SW area is constituted by mostly homogeneous leucocratic granodiorites that yielded an age of 213 Ma as the best estimation for their emplacement age. Distinctive geochemical characteristics, such as the absence of an Eu anomaly, the depletion in HREE, or the highest Sr, Sr/Y and Ce/Yb values among the granodioritic facies of the pluton,involve lower T and/or higher P conditions at the magmatic source according to experimental *** conditions were established during an early stage of the Andean magmatic arc building that is firstly defined here as Upper Triassic. The NW and E domains of the pluton were sequentially emplaced between 194 Ma and 186 Ma and both the field relations and the detailed geochronological results suggest that the mafic facies intruded latter in the emplacement sequence. The objective of the study was to develop a univariate model for analyzing energy balance data from lactating goats at mid lactation and determine maintenance requirements and partial efficiencies of energy utilization. Energy balance data from eight studies involving lactating Murciano-Granadina goats fed total mixed diets, which accounted for a variation in metabolizable energy (MEI) intake, milk energy output (EI), and tissue energy balance, were used. The database included records obtained by indirect calorimetry. Data were adjusted with a mixed model that included the study as a random effect. Then, two multivariate linear models were obtained: metabolizable and net energy models. The metabolizable model was MEI=β0+β2E1+β3Tg+β4T1+ε and the net energy model was E1=β0+β1MEI+β2Tg+β3T1+ε;where β0, β1, β2 and β3 were the parameters, Tg was tissue energy retention and Tl the milk energy derived from body stores. For a better fitted proposed model, net energy for maintenance (NEm) was 283 kJ/kg of Body Weight 0.75 (BW) per day, and the efficiency of utilization of ME for lactation (k1), body weight gain (kg) and body tissue mobilization for milk production (kt) were 62%, 83% and 78%, respectively. Maintenance requirements and partial efficiencies for milk production and tissue energy mobilization were similar to the values proposed by INRA (2018). The increase in the efficiency of utilizing dietary energy for gain, compared with other feeding systems, was partially attributed to the stage of lactation, due to that goats were feeding at mid lactation.

The thermal characteristics of bimetallic Pt-Pd nanoparticles, both free and graphite-supported, were investigated through molecular dynamics simulations using quantum Sutton-Chen many-body potentials for the metal-metal interactions. The graphite substrate was represented as layers of fixed carbons sites and modeled with the Lennard-Jones potential model. The melting temperatures for bimetallic nanoparticles were estimated based on variations in thermodynamic properties such as potential energy and heat capacity. Melting temperatures of the nanoparticles were found to be considerably lower than those of bulk Pt and Pd. The Pt-Pd clusters exhibited a two-stage melting, where surface melting of the external atoms is followed by homogeneous melting of the internal atoms. The melting transition temperature was found to increase when the particle is on the graphite support, with an increase at least 180 K higher than that of the same-sized free nanoparticle. The results of the density distributions perpendicular to the surface indicate that the Pd atoms have a tendency to remain at the surface, and the Pd atoms wet the graphite surface more than the Pt atoms, while root mean squares suggest that surface melting starts from the cluster surface, and surface melting was seen in both free and graphite-supported nanoparticles. Structural changes accompanying the thermal evolution were studied by the bond-orientational order parameter method.

Patients with liver cirrhosis,irrespective of etiology,have increased risk of liver-related and all-cause mortality(1).Also,the severity of cirrhosis determines health *** instance,patients with compensated cirrhosis have a nearly five-fold increased risk of death,while those with decompensated cirrhosis have approximately a 10-fold increased risk compared with the general population(1).Furthermore,the median survival time of patients with compensated cirrhosis is 12 years,while it is only 1.8 years in those with decompensated cirrhosis(2).Moreover,the presence of intercurrent conditions,such as sarcopenia(loss of skeletal muscle mass and function)may also compromise the prognosis of patients with cirrhosis(3).
