PET/CT and Hypo-Fractionated Radiotherapy of Patients with Head and neck Cancer

Positron emission tomography/Computer tomography (PET/CT) is a multimodality imaging diagnostic technique that analyzes the uptake and retention of different radiopharmaceuticals by cells providing metabolic information on biochemical processes. PET/CT has been used for radiotherapy planning, providing useful information to the Radio-oncologist about the localization, size and metabolic activity of tumor lesions. In this paper, we show advantages of the 18F-FDG PET/CT respect to simple CT imaging for target volume delineation in patients with diagnosis of Squamous Head and neck Carcinoma that has been scheduled to undergo a hypofractionated radiotherapy treatment. On ten studied patients, the target volume defined from PET/CT images was less extensive than those defined from simple CT images. In six patients the target volume was significantly less extensive and in two of them a new lymph node disease was reported, re-staging and corresponding target volume was also delineated with less extensive margins from PET/CT images. A greater accuracy in delineating the volumes and improving the distribution of doses in the planning of the radiant treatment in these patients was possible, allowing a high precision in the delivery of the prescribed dose to the target volume diminishing the maximum dose to the adjacent healthy tissues. In conclusion we show that the use of 18F-FDG PET/CT was superior than the simple CT as the primary modality of imaging for hypofractioned radiotherapy treatment planning in patients with Squamous Head and neck Carcinoma.

The Rheic Ocean was one of the most important oceans of the Paleozoic Era. It lay between Laurentia and Gondwana from the Early Ordovician and closed to produce the vast Ouachita- Alleghanian-Variscan orogen during the assembly of Pangea. Rifting began in the Cambrian as a continua- tion of neoproterozoic orogenic activity and the ocean opened in the Early Ordovician with the separation of several neoproterozoic arc terranes from the continental margin of northern Gondwana along the line of a former suture. The rapid rate of ocean opening suggests it was driven by slab pull in the outboard Iapetus Ocean. The ocean reached its greatest width with the closure of Iapetus and the accretion of the peri- Gondwanan arc terranes to Laurentia in the Silurian. Ocean closure began in the Devonian and continued through the Mississippian as Gondwana sutured to Laurussia to form Pangea. The ocean consequently plays a dominant role in the Appalachian-Ouachita orogeny of north America, in the basement geology of southern Europe, and in the Paleozoic sedimentary, structural and tectonothermal record from Middle America to the Middle East. Its closure brought the Paleozoic Era to an end.

提出了一个近似与Lane方程自洽的色散耦合到光学模型势用于描述铁同位素。软旋转子模型用于描述Fe的能级结构,哈密顿量参数通过再现低激发能级调整得到。低激发态能级之间的E和E跃迁概率也得到很好再现。直到200MeV的中子和质子散射实验数用于光学势参数拟合。导出的光学势不仅能很好描述散射实验数据,而且能够描述激发到同位旋相似态的(p,n)准弹性散射,以及弹性和非弹性散射分析本领,这证实了该光学势与Lane方程的近似自洽性以及自旋轨道势的可靠性。该势也可应用于临近核素ni和Cr同位素的数据分析。

AIM: To analyze the attitude of Spanish medical students toward living liver donation (LLD) and to establish which factors have an influence on this ***: Study type: A sociological, interdisciplinary, multicenter and observational study. Study population: Medical students enrolled in Spain (n = 34000) in the university academic year 2010-2011. Sample size: A sample of 9598 students stratified by geographical area and academic year. Instrument used to measure attitude: A validated questionnaire (PCID-DVH RIOS) was self-administered and completed anonymously. Data collection procedure: Randomly selected medical schools. The questionnaire was applied to each academic year at compulsory sessions. Statistical analysis: Student´s t test, χ2 test and logistic regression ***: The completion rate was 95.7% (n = 9275). 89% (n = 8258) were in favor of related LLD, and 32% (n = 2937) supported unrelated LLD. The following variables were associated with having a more favorable attitude: (1) age (P = 0.008); (2) sex (P ng in the possibility of needing a transplant oneself in the future (P nation (P ng kidney donation (P nce of a donated liver segment from a family member if one were needed (P ng discussed the subject with one’s family (P nd friends (P ner’s opinion about the subject (P ng out activities of an altruistic nature; and (12) fear of the possible mutilation of the body after donation (P nCLUSIOn: Spanish medical students have a favorable attitude toward LLD.

The Administration of Ocoxin Increases the Quality of Life of Patients with Advanced Epithelial or Metastatic Ovarian Cancer Undergoing neoadjuvant Chemotherapy

Background: 70% of ovarian cancer cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage (III or IV) of the disease and, in turn, with a high prevalence of peritoneal carcinosis and ascites, which leads to progressive malnutrition in patients, with the consequent deterioration of their general condition. There is a very important relationship between nutritional status, quality of life, survival, and the ability to tolerate multidisciplinary treatment of peritoneal carcinosis. Methods: A phase II, open-label, single-center, non-randomised clinical trial was conducted that included 36 patients with advanced disease who were administered the nutritional supplement Ocoxin, 30 ml twice a day, beginning one week before chemotherapy (CT) based on carboplatin/paclitaxel, of which they receive three cycles with neoadjuvant intent. Ocoxin treatment was continued during chemotherapy and for three weeks after completion of the last cycle, as well as during any periods for which this treatment was discontinued due to toxicity. The effect of Ocoxin on the quality of life was assessed through the QLQ C30 and QLQ OV28 questionnaires from the start of treatment until the end of the follow-up period. In addition, the Karnofsky Index and nutritional parameters were assessed. Results: There were no significant differences between adverse events versus baseline values, except in leukocytes, lymphocytes, neutrophils, ALT, and AST. There was no deterioration of the QoL scales, except for those related to the effects of chemotherapy and alopecia. Conclusions: Ocoxin as an adjuvant to chemotherapy appears to improve better tolerance to chemotherapy, showed a good safety profile, and improved quality of life. For further information on Ocoxin neoadjuvant therapy benefits, a phase III clinical trial will be needed.
