O3-type layered oxide cathodes,such as NaNi_(0.5)Mn_(0.5)O_(2),have garnered significant attention due to their high theoretical specific capacity while using abundant and low-cost sodium as intercalation *** the lithium analog(liNiO_(2)),NaNiO_(2)(NNO)exhibits poor electrochemical performance resulting from structural instability and inferior Coulomb *** enhance its cyclability for practical application,NNO was modified by titanium substitution to yield the O3-type NaNi_(0.9)Ti_(0.1)O_(2)(NNTO),which was successfully synthesized for the first time via a solid-state *** mechanism behind its superior performance in comparison to that of similar materials is examined in detail using a variety of characterization *** delivers a specific discharge capacity of∼190 mAh g^(−1)and exhibits good reversibility,even in the presence of multiple phase transitions during cycling in a potential window of 2.0−4.2 V ***^(+)/*** behavior can be attributed to the substituent,which helps maintain a larger interslab distance in the Na-deficient phases and to mitigate Jahn–Teller activity by reducing the average oxidation state of ***,volume collapse at high potentials and irreversible lattice oxygen loss are still detrimental to the ***,the performance can be further enhanced through coating and doping *** not only positions NNTO as a promising next-generation cathode material,but also serves as inspiration for future research directions in the field of high-energy-density Na-ion batteries.

Photodynamic therapy in the treatment of intracranial gliomas:A review of current practice and considerations for future clinical directions

Invasive grade III and IV maliguant gliomas remain difficult to treat with a typical survival time post-diagnosis hovering around 16 months with only minor extension thereof seen in the past decade,whereas some improvements have been obtained towards five-year survival rates for which completeness of resection is a *** techniques such as fluorescence guided resection(FGR)and photodynamic therapy(PDT)are promising adjuvant techniques to in-crease the tumor volume reduction *** has been used in combination with surgical resection or alternatively as standalone treat ment strategy with some sucoess in extending the median survival time of patients compared to surgery alone and the current standard of *** document reviews the outcome of past clinical trials and highlights the general shift in PDT therapeutic *** also looks at the current approaches for interstitial PDT and research options into increasing PDT's glioma treatment fficacy through exploiting both physical and biological based approaches to maximize PDT selectivity and therapeutic index,particularly in brain adjacent to tumor(BAT).Potential reasons for failing to demonstrate a significant survival advantage in prior PDT clinical trials will become evident in light of the improved understanding of glioma biology and PDT dosimetry.

No evidence demonstrating hepatotoxicity associated with hydroxycitric acid

Although a number of cases of hepatotoxicity are associated with the use of Hydroxycut weight management products, it has been alleged that their effects are primarily due to the presence of hydroxycitric acid (HCA, as Super CitriMax) in the formulations. However, while these products contain up to 20 different ingredients, some do not contain HCA. Case studies reported to date have not considered in depth the literature on the numerous animal and human studies that have been conducted on the safety and effi cacy of HCA. No HCA-associated hepatotoxicity or treatment-related adverse effects have been reported in these studies, and thus it is premature to make the assumptions presented in the recent case studies regarding Hydroxycut. If it is established in well controlled studies that the use of these formulations with and/or without HCA can result in the occurrence or progression of hepatotoxicity, additional studies should be conducted to characterize the causative factor(s).

Comparison of different disinfection processes in the effective removal of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and genes

This study compared three different disinfection processes （chlorination, E-beam, and ozone） and the efficacy of three oxidants （H202, S2O8-, and peroxymonosulfate （MPS）） in removing antibiotic resistant bacteria （ARB） and antibiotic resistance genes （ARGs） in a synthetic wastewater. More than 30 mg/l of chlorine was needed to remove over 90% of ARB and ARG. For the E-beam method, only 1 dose （kGy） was needed to remove ARB and ARG, and ozone could reduce ARB and ARG by more than 90% even at 3 mg/l ozone concentration. In the ozone process, CT values （concentration × time） were compared for ozone alone and combined with different catalysts based on the 2-log removal of ARB and ARG. Ozone treatment yielded a value of 31 and 33 （mg·min）/l for ARB and ARGs respectively. On the other hand, ozone with persulfate yielded 15.9 and 18.5 （***）/l while ozone with monopersulfate yielded a value of 12 and 14.5 （mg·min）/l. This implies that the addition of these catalysts significantly reduces the contact time to achieve a 2-log removal, thus enhancing the process in terms of its kinetics.

The interstellar medium:the key component in galactic evolution and modern cosmology

The gases of the interstellar medium(ISM) possess orders of magnitude more mass than those of all the stars combined and are thus the prime component of the baryonic Universe. With l-band surface sensitivity even better than the planned phase one of the Square Kilometre Array(SKA1), the Five-hundredmeter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST) promises unprecedented insights into two of the primary components of ISM, namely, atomic hydrogen(HI) and the hydroxyl molecule(OH). Here, we discuss the evolving landscape of our understanding of ISM, particularly, its complex phases, the magnetic fields within, the so-called dark molecular gas(DMG), high velocity clouds and the connection between local and distant ISM. We lay out, in broad strokes, several expected FAST projects, including an all northern-sky high-resolution HI survey(22 000 deg2, 3′FWHM beam, 0.2 km s^(-1)), targeted OH mapping, searching for absorption and maser signals, etc. Currently under commissioning, the commensal observing mode of FAST will be capable of simultaneously obtaining HI and pulsar data streams, making large-scale surveys in both science areas more efficient.

High Throughput Sequencing of circRNAs in Tomato leaves Responding to Multiple Stresses of Drought and Heat

Our aim is to study the roles of a new emerging group of non-coding RNAs, circRNAs, in tomato(Solanum lycopersicum l.) plants grown at the combination of drought and heat, two of the most usual stress conditions known to frequently happen in field. Tomato seedlings from cultivar‘Jinling Meiyu’ were treated without stresses(control), at water shortage, high temperature and subjected the multiple stresses. In total, 467 circRNAs were identified with 87.82% from exon using high throughput sequencing technology. Among the circRNAs, 70 were from chr1 with the range from 23 to 49 from the other chromosomes. In detail, 156 circRNAs were shared in the four libraries, while 21, 17 and 36 circRNAs were only shown in drought, heat and multiple stresses libraries, respectively. Through a differential expression analysis, four, seven and nine circRNAs were differentially regulated in tomato at drought, heat and multiple stresses as compared with control. These circRNAs played roles on photosynthesis, starch and sucrose metabolism, RNA transport, RNA degradation, spliceosome, ribosome, etc. Our study underlined the potential role of circRNAs involved in the abiotic stress response in tomato, which might pave the way for studying biological roles of circRNAs responding to multiple stresses in plants.

Pivot Points in Bivariate linear Regression

There are little-noticed points in the plane, which are artifacts of linear regression. The points, which are called pivot points, are the intersections of sets of regression lines. We derive the coordinates of the pivot point and explain its sources. We show how a pivot point arises in a certain notable data set, which has been analyzed often for points of high leverage. We obtain the application of pivot points that shortens calculations when updating a set of bivariate observations by adding a new point.
