Immediate and late effects of chronic stress in the testes of prepubertal and adult rats

the objective of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic stress on the testes of prepubertal and adult rats and to evaluate whether any alterations could be reversed when stress induction is ended. Seventy-six male rats were assigned to eight groups depending on the type of treatment （control or stressed）, the age at which stress was initiated （prepubertal or adult）, and the time of evaluation （immediate or late）. Stress stimuli were applied for 6 weeks. Stressed prepubertal and adult rats evaluated immediately after the last stress stimulus were included in SP-I and SA-I groups, respectively. the late prepubertal （SP-L） and adult （SA-L） groups of stressed rats were evaluated 6 weeks after the last stress stimulus. Age-matched rats were used as controls （CP-I, CA-I, CP-L, and CA-L groups）. Application of stress stimuli to rats in the SP-I group resulted in body weight and seminiferous tubule diameter reduction. the rats in the SA-I group also showed several functional （testosterone level and sperm parameter） and morphological （testicular weight and seminiferous tubule diameter） reductions. the rats in the SP-L group showed increased body weight and intertubular compartment volumetric and absolute densities and reduced tubular compartment volumetric density. the rats in the SA-L group presented only reduced sperm viability. Stress stimuli promoted changes in the rats in all the study groups. the testes of the adult rats were the most affected by chronic stress. However, the stressed adult rats recovered well from the testicular alterations.

the influence of the blood pressure on the venous cerebral flow measured by magnetic susceptibility (SWI) technique

Susceptibility Weighted Image (SWI) is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technique that combines high spatial resolution and sensitivity to magnetic susceptibility differences between tissues, it is extremely sensitive to venous blood due to its iron content of deoxyhemoglobin. the aim of this study was to evaluate the differences in the cerebral venous vasculature produced by the value’s variation of blood pressure. 20 subjects (10 hypertensive and 10 normotensive patients) underwent a MRI system with field strength of 1.5 t using a synergy head coil (7 channels). the obtained sequences were t1w, t2w-FLAIR, t2* and SWI. the value of Contrast-to-Noise Ratio (CNR) was assessed in MinIP (Minimum Intensity Projection) and Magnitude images, through drawing free hand ROIs in venous structures: Superior Sagittal Sinus (SSS) Internal Cerebral Vein (ICV) and Sinus Confluence (SC). the obtained values were presented in descriptive statistics-quartiles and extremes diagrams. the results were compared between groups. CNR shown higher values for normotensive group in MinIP (108.89 ± 6.907) to ICV;(238.73 ± 18.556) to SC and (239.384 ± 52.303) to SSS. these values are bigger than images from Hypertensive group about 46 au in average. Comparing the results of Magnitude and MinIP images, there were obtained lower CNR values for the hypertensive group. there were differences in the CNR values between both groups, being these values more expressive in the large vessels-SSS and SC. the SWI is a potential technique to evaluate and characterize the blood pressure variation in the studied vessels adding a physiological perspective to MRI and giving a new approach to the radiological vascular studies.

Objective:to investigate the long-term safety of a tetravalent dengue vaccine(CYD-tDV)in children in a phase Ⅱ b follow-up study in ***:In the phase Ⅱb study,children aged 4-11 years were randomized(2:1)to receive three injections of CYD-tDV or serve as control at 6-month intervals,with 25 months’ active follow-up(active phase).this study was an additional four-year passive surveillance for hospitalized virologically-confirmed dengue(VCD;hospital phase).Cases of hospitalized VCD,severe hospitalized VCD,vaccine-related serious adverse events,and deaths were reported for the total population,with post-hoc analyses by enrollment age(ts:Of 3 997 participants receiving≥1 injection,80.1% were recruited to the hospital phase[2 131(CYD-tDV);1 072(control)].Eighty-five hospitalized VCD cases were reported in the CYD-tDV group and 46 in the control group during the four-year hospital phase[relative risk(RR):0.93,95% confidence interval(Cl):0.64-1.36].the RR over six years of follow-up was 0.77(95% CI:0.57-1.05).In those aged≥9 years,the cumulative RRs in the active phase,hospital phase,and entire six years were 0.28(95% CI:0.08-0.81),0.51(95% CI:0.25-1.05),and 0.42(95% CI:0.24-0.75),*** the overall population,there were ten severe hospitalized VCD cases in the CYD-tDV group and five in the control group over six years(RR:1.00,95% CI:0.31-3.75).Conclusions:Over six years of follow-up,in children aged ≥9 years,CYD-tDV administration is associated with a reduced risk of hospitalized VCD.

Improving cover and management factor (C-factor) estimation using remote sensing approaches for tropical regions

the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE)'s cover and management factor (C-factor) is one of the most difficult factors to obtain,mainly because long-term monitoring soil erosion plots under natural rainfall are ***,remote sensing approaches have been used as an alternative for obtaining this ***,there is a lack of studies comparing values of this factor computed from remote sensing approaches with measured *** this study,we compare two widely used remote sensing approaches (CrA and CVK) to estimate the C-factor based on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) with the literature (CLIt) and field experimental data..We also investigated the influence of C-factor methods on the prediction of soil loss and sediment yield (SY) using measured data in the Guariroba basin,Central-West *** obtained mean C-factor values of 0.032,0.023 and 0.137 for CLIt,CrA and CVK,*** found an average annual soil loss of 2.20 tha-1 yr-1,2.02 t ha-1 yr-1 and 10.07 tha-1 yr-1 and SY values of 6875 tyr-1,6468 tyr-1 and 33,435 t yr1,for CLIt,CrA and CVK *** results indicated a significant improvement in soil loss and SY estimations by using the CrA approach developed for tropical regions,with a bias of 13% to the measured SY (5709tyr-1).We conclude that the CrA method present the most suitable alternative to compute soil loss and SY in tropical ***,this approach allows large-scale evaluation and temporal monitoring,therefore enhancing multi spatial and temporal assessment of soil erosion processes.

AIM to establish patient-individual tumor models of rectal cancer for analyses of novel biomarkers, individual response prediction and individual therapy *** Establishment of cell lines was conducted by direct in vitro culturing and in vivo xenografting with subsequent in vitro culturing. Cell lines were in-depth characterized concerning morphological features, invasive and migratory behavior, phenotype, molecular profile including mutational analysis, protein expression, and confirmation of origin by DNA fingerprint. Assessment of chemosensitivity towards an extensive range of current chemotherapeutic drugs and of radiosensitivity was performed including analysis of a combined radioand chemotherapeutic treatment. In addition, glucose metabolism was assessed with 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG) and proliferation with 18 *** We describe the establishment of ultra-low passage rectal cancer cell lines of three patients suffering from rectal cancer. two cell lines(HROC126, HROC284 Met) were established directly from tumor specimens while HROC239 t0 M1 was established subsequent to xenografting of the tumor. Molecular analysis classified all three cell lines as CIMP-0/non-MSI-H(sporadic standard) type. Mutational analysis revealed following mutational profiles: HROC126: APC^(wt), tP53^(wt), KRAS^(wt), BRAF^(wt), PtEN^(wt); HROC239 t0 M1: APC^(mut), P53^(wt), KRAS^(mut), BRAF^(wt), PtEN^(mut) and HROC284 Met: APC^(wt), P53^(mut), KRAS^(mut), BRAF^(wt), PtEN^(mut). All cell lines could be characterized as epithelial(EpCAM+) tumor cells with equivalent morphologic features and comparable growth kinetics. the cell lines displayed a heterogeneous response toward chemotherapy, radiotherapy and their combined application. Single-operator cholangioscopy for biliary complications in liver transplant recipients

to evaluate cholangioscopy in addition to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for management of biliary complications after liver transplantation (Lt).MEtHODStwenty-six Lt recipients with duct-to-duct biliary reconstruction who underwent ERCP for suspected biliary complications between April and December 2016 at the university hospital of Muenster were consecutively enrolled in this observational study. After evaluating bile ducts using fluoroscopy, cholangioscopy using a modern digital single-operator cholangioscopy system (SpyGlass DS™) was performed during the same procedure with patients under conscious sedation. All patients received peri-interventional antibiotic prophylaxis and bile was collected during the intervention for microbial analysis and for antibiotic susceptibility ***-three biliary complications were found in a total of 22 patients, whereas four patients showed normal bile ducts. Anastomotic strictures were evident in 14 (53.8%) patients, non-anastomotic strictures in seven (26.9%), biliary cast in three (11.5%), and stones in six (23.1%). A benefit of cholangioscopy was seen in 12 (46.2%) patients. In four of them, cholangioscopy was crucial for selective guidewire placement prior to planned intervention. In six patients, biliary cast and/or stones failed to be diagnosed by ERCP and were only detectable through cholangioscopy. In one case, a bile duct ulcer due to fungal infection was diagnosed by cholangioscopy. In another case, signs of bile duct inflammation caused by acute cholangitis were evident. One patient developed post-interventional cholangitis. No further procedure-related complications occurred. thirty-seven isolates were found in bile. Sixteen of these were gram-positive (43.2%), 12 (32.4%) were gram-negative bacteria, and Candida species accounted for 24.3% of all isolated microorganisms. Assessing neuraxial microstructural changes in a transgenic mouse model of early stage Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis by ultra-high field MRI and diffusion tensor metrics

Objective: Cell structural changes are one of the main features observed during the development of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS). In this work, we propose the use of diffusion tensor imaging(DtI) metrics to assess specific ultrastructural changes in the central nervous system during the early neurodegenerative stages of ***: Ultra-high field MRI and DtI data at 17.6 t were obtained from fixed, excised mouse brains, and spinal cords from ALS(G93 A-SOD1) ***: Changes in fractional anisotropy(FA) and linear, planar, and spherical anisotropy ratios(C_L, C_P, and C_S, respectively) of the diffusion eigenvalues were measured in white matter(WM) and gray matter(GM) areas associated with early axonal degenerative processes(in both the brain and the spinal cord). Specifically, in WM structures(corpus callosum, corticospinal tract, and spinal cord funiculi) as the disease progressed, FA, C_L, and C_P values decreased, whereas C_S values increased. In GM structures(prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and central spinal cord) FA and C_P decreased, whereas the C_L and C_S values were unchanged or slightly smaller. Histological studies of a fluorescent mice model(YFP, G93 A-SOD1 mouse) corroborated the early alterations in neuronal morphology and axonal connectivity measured by ***: Changes in diffusion tensor shape were observed in this animal model at the early, nonsymptomatic stages of ALS. Further studies of C_L, C_P, and C_S as imaging biomarkers should be undertaken to refine this neuroimaging tool for future clinical use in the detection of the early stages of ALS.

to the Editor： the gastrointestinal tract （GIt） is the most common extranodal location ofnon-Hodgkin＇s lymphoma, but it represents only 0.4% of primary colonic malignancies. Symptoms are nonspecific and may include diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, weight loss, and gastrointestinal bleeding. In colon, the most common types are conventional large cell lymphoma, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, and t-cell lymphoma.
