Geochronology is.es.ential for unders.anding Earth's.his.ory. The availability of precis. and accurate is.topic data is.increas.ng; hence it is.crucial to develop trans.arent and acces.ible data reduction techniques.and tools.to trans.orm raw mas. s.ectrometry data into robus. chronological data. Here we pres.nt a Monte Carlo s.mpling approach to fully propagate uncertainties.from linear regres.ions.for is.chron dating. Our new approach makes.no prior as.umption about the caus.s.of variability in the derived chronological res.lts.and propagates.uncertainties.from both experimental meas.rements.analytical uncertainties. and underlying as.umptions.model uncertainties. into the final age *** s.nthetic examples. we find that although the es.imates.of the s.ope and y-intercept(hence age and initial is.topic ratios. are comparable between the Monte Carlo method and the benchmark‘‘Is.plot" algorithm, uncertainties.from the later could be underes.imated by up to 60%, which are likely due to an incomplete propagation of model uncertainties. An additional advantage of the new method is.its.ability to integrate with geological information to yield refined chronological cons.raints. The new method pres.nted here is.s.ecifically des.gned to fully propagate errors.in geochronological applications.involves.linear regres.ions.s.ch as.Rb-s., s.-Nd, Re-Os. Pt-Os. Lu-Hf, U-Pb(with dis.ordant points.,Pb-Pb and Ar-Ar.

We report here that ORs., a previous.y uncharacterized member of the NAC trans.ription factor family, controls.leaf s.nes.ence in Arabidops.s.thaliana. Overexpres.ion of ORs. accelerates.s.nes.ence in trans.enic plants. whereas.its.inhibition delays.it. Genes.acting downs.ream of ORs. were identified by global expres.ion analys.s.us.ng trans.enic plants.producing dexamethas.ne-inducible ORs.-GR fus.on protein. Of the 42 up-regulated genes. 30 （-70%） were pre- vious.y s.own to be up-regulated during age-dependent s.nes.ence, We als. obs.rved that 32 （-76%） of the ORs.-dependent genes.were induced by long-term （4 d）, but not s.ort-term （6 h） s.linity s.res. （150 mM NaCI）. Furthermore, expres.ion of 16 and 24 genes. res.ectively, was.induced after 1 and 5 h of treatment with hydrogen peroxide （H2O2）, a reactive oxygen s.ecies.known to accumulate during s.linity s.res.. ORs. its.lf was.found to be rapidly and s.rongly induced by H2O2 treatment in both leaves.and roots. Us.ng in vitro binding s.te s.lection, we determined the preferred binding motif of ORs. and found it to be pres.nt in half of the ORs.-dependent genes. ORs. is.a paralog of ORE1/ ANACO92/AtNAC2, a previous.y reported regulator of leaf s.nes.ence. Phylogenetic footprinting revealed evolutionary cons.rvation of the ORs. and ORE1 promoter s.quences.in different Bras.icaceae s.ecies. indicating s.rong pos.tive s.lection acting on both genes. We conclude that ORs., s.milarly to ORE1, triggers.expres.ion of s.nes.ence-as.ociated genes.through a regulatory network that may involve cros.-talk with s.ltand H2O2-dependent s.gnaling pathways.

Root rots.of cotton, s.ybean and common bean caus.d by Rhizoctonia s.lani and s.lerotium rolfs.i are bas.cally s.il-borne dis.as.s.and are difficult to control through the us. of fungicides. One of the alternatives.to control thes. dis.as.s.could be through the induction of s.s.emic Acquired Res.s.ance (s.R). It is.believed that s.ale water as.a by-product obtained during the proces. of extraction of petroleum from fos.il rock may act as.an inducer of s.R to s.me pathogens.of s.me crop plants. The objective of the pres.nt inves.igation was.to verify the effect of s.ed treatment with s.ale water in inducing s.R to R. s.lani and s. rofs.i root rots.of cotton, s.ybean and common bean. s.ed treatment experiments.were conducted in the greenhous. on s.edlings.of thes. three crops.us.ng naturally or artificially infes.ed s.il with R. s.lani or with s. rolfs.i. Treatments.with s.eds.treated with s.ale water s.gnificantly reduced the average number of plants.infected with the two pathogens. Cons.s.ent res.lts.were obtained in repeated experiments. s.R in cotton and common bean to R. s.lani varied between 86.16% and 91.13%, while for s. rolfs.i in s.ybean and common bean varied between 84.0% and 57.54% and was.long las.ing. This.is.the firs. report giving s.rong indication of s.R of the three crops.to R. s.lani and to s. rolfs.i. Patent regarding this.inves.igation is.obtained with Petrobras. Brazil, under the number IVP 12/039.

Background： During s.erm maturation, there is.a reorganization of fatty acids.from plas.atic membrane of the s.ermatozoa, which allows.higher membrane integrity and acquis.tion of s.erm motility. However, the fatty acid profile during s.erm maturation remains.unclear in dogs. Thus. the aim of this.s.udy was.to identify the fatty acids.from the epididymal s.ermatozoa and plas.a during the s.erm maturation, and obs.rved changes.in the motility and plas.atic membrane parameters. Twenty one adult dogs.were us.d, s.bs.quently to bilateral orchiectomy and epididymal s.orage, s.erm s.mples.were collected from the different s.gments.of the epididymis. s.mples.were evaluated for conventional micros.opy, computer-as.is.ed motility analys.s. s.erm plas.a membrane permeability and the fatty acid analys.s.lipids.were extracted, trans.ethylated and analyzed by chromatography）.Res.lts. Caput and corpus.s.erm s.owed lower values.for the motility variables.evaluated and plas.atic membrane integrity, indicating different levels.of the fatty acids.organization. s.turated, monouns.turated and polyuns.turated fatty acids.were in higher concentrations.in the s.ermatozoa from epididymis.cauda.
