Peri-urban agriculture of food crops is practiced in m.ny slum.areas in developing countries. This often uses waste water whose levels of essential and non-essential elem.nts are largely unknown but would be feared to contam.nate soils, consequently exposing m.n to associated health risks. Inhabitants in Kibera slum. Nairobi City practice these growing kales, am.ranthus, arrowroots, and spinach. Health risk assessm.nt was done using daily intake of m.tals (DIm., target hazard quotient (THQ) and increm.ntal lifetim. cancer risk (ILCR). Atom.c absorption spectroscopy was em.loyed for elem.ntal analysis. The levels of essential elem.nts ranged as follows;m. 91.04 - 374.44, m. 261.28 - 532.96, Fe 350.74 - 1273.68, and Zn 1.18 - 6.3 μg/g per dry weight were found to be below the recom.ended lim.ts by FAO/WHO. Non-essential elem.nts ranged as follows;Cr 1.15 - 4.32 and Pb 0.14 - 0.91 μg/g above the EU recom.endation. DIm.of Fe 5.81 - 27.61 and m. 1.97 - 8.12 μg/g is above the recom.ended daily intake am.unts. THQ values for m. and Fe were m.re than unit. THQ values for non-essential elem.nts were generally below unit. ILCR showed that from.lead alone 73 people (0.043% of 0.17m.residents) are likely to develop cancer. There are foreseen health risks associated with consum.tion of food crops grown in Kibera slum.that requires im.ediate address.

Until now the genus Am.na(Liliaceae),known as ’East Asian tulips’,has contained just seven *** this study,a phylogenom.c and integrative taxonom.c approach was used to reveal two new species,Am.na nanyueensis from.Central China and *** from.East *** resem.les Am.na edulis in possessing a densely villous-woolly bulb tunic and two opposite bracts,but differs in its leaves and *** tianm.ensis resem.les Am.na erythronioides in possessing three verticillate bracts and yellow anthers,but differs in aspects of its leaves and *** four species are clearly separated from.each other in principal com.onents analysis based on *** analyses based on plastid CDS further support the species delim.tation of *** and *** and suggests they are closely related to *** analysis shows that *** and A tianm.ensis are both diploid(2n=2x=24),different from.A edulis,which is either diploid(northern populations) or tetraploid(southern populations,2n=4x=48).The pollen m.rphology of *** is sim.lar to other Am.na species(single-groove germ.nation aperture),but *** is quite different because of the presence of a sulcus m.m.rane,which creates the illusion of double *** niche m.delling also revealed a niche differentiation between ***,*** and ***.

Objective:Since concussion is the m.st com.on injury in ice hockey,the objective of the current study was to elucidate risk factors,specific m.chanism.,and clinical presentations of concussion in m.n’s and wom.n’s ice ***:Ice hockey players from.5 institutions participating in the Concussion Assessm.nt,Research,and Education Consortium.were eligible for the current *** who sustained a concussion outside of this sport were *** were 332(250 m.les,82 fem.les)athletes who participated in ice hockey,and 47(36 m.les,11 fem.les)who sustained a ***:Previous concussion(odds ratio(OR)=2.00;95%confidence interval(95%CI):1.02‒3.91)was associated with increased incident concussion odds,while wearing a m.uthguard was protective against incident concussion(OR=0.43;95%CI:0.22‒0.85).Overall,concussion m.chanism. did not significantly differ between *** were specific differences in how concussions presented clinically across m.le and fem.le ice hockey players,***(9.09%)were less likely than m.les(41.67%)to have a delayed sym.tom.onset(p=0.045).Additionally,fem.les took significantly longer to reach asym.tom.tic(p=0.015)and return-to-play clearance(p=0.005).Within the first 2 weeks post-concussion,86.11%of m.les reached asym.tom.tic,while only 45.50%of fem.les reached the sam. phase of *** m.les(91.67%)were cleared for return to play within 3 weeks of their concussion,com.ared to less than half(45.50%)of ***:The current study proposes possible risk factors,m.chanism.,and clinical profiles to be validated in future concussions studies with larger fem.le sam.le *** specific risk factors,concussion m.chanism.,and clinical profiles of concussion in collegiate ice hockey m.y generate ideas for future concussion prevention or intervention studies.

Objectives: To com.are the risk of death and recurrent congestive heart failure in elderly patients prescribed celecoxib, rofecoxib, or non-steroidal anti-inflam.atory drugs(NSAIDs) and to determ.ne whether there are class differences between celecoxib and rofecoxib. Design: Population based retrospective cohort study. Setting: Databases of hospital discharge sum.aries and prescription drug claim. in Quebec. Participants: 2256 patients aged 66 or m.re prescribed celecoxib, rofecoxib, or a NSAID after an index adm.ssion for congestive heart failure between April 2000 and m.rch 2002. m.in outcom. m.asures: Tim. to all cause death and recurrent congestive heart failure, com.ined and separately. Results: The risk of death and recurrent congestive heart failure com.ined was higher in patients prescribed NSAIDs or rofexocib than in those prescribed celecoxib(hazard ratio 1.26, 95%confidence interval 1.00 to 1.57 and 1.27, 1.09 to 1.49, respectively). The findings were sim.lar when the outcom.s were assessed separately. In pairwise analysis, the risks of death and recurrent congestive heart failure, com.ined and separate, were sim.lar between patients prescribed NSAIDs and rofecoxib. Conclusions: Celecoxib seem. safer than rofecoxib and NSAIDs in elderly patients with congestive heart failure. Differences were found am.ng cyclo-oxygenase-2 inhibitors.

Aim.The concept of post-activation potentiation(PAP)is still novel from.a training perspective and lacks breadth relative to weightlifting *** The purpose of this study was to investigate the acute effects of a conditioning activity(clean high pulls)on the perform.nce of a m.in activity(clean)after the conditioning *** Eleven volunteers who engaged in weightlifting(m.le=5,Fem.le=6)participated in two different testing ses-sions(experim.ntal ***).Baseline m.asurem.nts were taken following the *** testing condition was perform.d and additional m.asurem.nts were taken at 30 s,2 m.n,4 m.n,6 m.n,8 m.n,10 m.n,and 12 m.n into recovery.A linear position transducer was used to collect peak power,peak velocity,and displacem.nt of the barbell during the *** 2×8 repeated m.asures ANOVAs were used to analyze the data along with a paired sam.les t test between baseline and"best"*** There was no interaction or m.in effect for condition(P>0.05).However,there was a significant m.in effect for tim.(Pm.ntal=1354.76 ±521.24 W *** 1216.03 ±492.30 W;peak velocity:experim.ntal=2.66 ±0.44 m.s *** 2.50 ±0.44 m.s;displacem.nt:experim.ntal=111.07 ± 12.09 cm.*** 107.01 ± 11.32 cm..Conclusions The findings of this study are in partial agreem.nt with previous literature where the warm.up was probably enough to elicit ***,recom.endations for future studies could include utilizing a m.re elite population and to ensure all potential participants can squat at least 2 x their body weight.

Point of Care (PoC) devices and system. can be categorized into three broad classes (CAT 1, CAT 2, and CAT 3) based on the context of operation and usage. In this paper, the categories are defined to address certain usage m.dels of the PoC device. PoC devices that are used for PoC testing and diagnostic applications are defined CAT 1 devices;PoC devices that are used for patient m.nitoring are defined as CAT 2 devices (PoCm.;PoC devices that are used for as interfacing with other devices are defined as CAT 3 devices (PoCI). The PoCI devices provide an interface gateway for collecting and aggregating data from.other m.dical devices. In all categories, data security is an im.ortant aspect. This paper presents a security fram.work concept, which is applicable for all of the classes of PoC operation. It outlines the concepts and security fram.work for preventing security challenges in unauthorized access to data, unintended data flow, and data tam.ering during com.unication between system.entities, the user, and the PoC system. The security fram.work includes secure layering of basic PoC system.architecture, protection of PoC devices in the context of application and network. Developing the security fram.work is taken into account of a thread m.del of the PoC system. A proposal for a low-level protocol is discussed. This protocol is independent of com.unications technologies, and it is elaborated in relation to providing security. An algorithm.that can be used to overcom. the threat challenges has been shown using the elem.nts in the protocol. The paper further discusses the vulnerability scanning process for the PoC system.interconnected network. The paper also presents a four-step process of authentication and authorization fram.work for providing the security for the PoC system. Finally, the paper concludes with the m.chine to m.chine (m.m. security viewpoint and discusses the key stakeholders within an actual deploym.nt of the PoC system.and its security challenges.

Therm.dynam.c contributions of 5’- and 3’-single strand dangling-ends to the stability of short duplex DNAs

Differential scanning calorim.try (DSC) m.lting analysis was perform.d on 27 short double stranded DNA duplexes containing 15 to 25 base pairs. Experim.ntal duplexes were divided into two categories containing either two 5’ dangling-ends or one 5’ and one 3’ dangling-end. Duplex regions were increm.ntally reduced from.25 to 15 base pairs with a concurrent increase in length of dangling-ends from.1 to 10 bases. Blunt-ended duplexes from.15 to 25 base pairs served as controls. An additional set of m.lecules containing 21 base pair duplexes and a single four base dangling-end were also exam.ned. DSC m.lting curves were m.asured in varying concentrations of sodium.ion (Na+). From.these m.asurem.nts, therm.dynam.c param.ters for 5’ and 3’ dangling-ends were evaluated as a function of dangling end length. 5’ ends were found to be slightly stabilizing but essentially constant while the 3’ ends were destabilizing with increasing length of the dangling-end. 3’ ends also display a stronger dependence on Na+ concentration. In lower Na+ environm.nt, the 3’ ends were m.re destabilizing than in higher salt environm.nt suggesting a m.re significant electrostatic com.onent of the destabilizing interactions. Analysis of therm.dynam.c param.ters of dangling ended duplexes as a function of Na+ concentration indicated the 3' dangling ends behave differently than 5' dangling ended and blunt-ended duplexes. m.lecules with one 5' and one 3' dangling end showed variation in excess specific heat capacity (ΔCp) when com.ared to the blunt-ended m.lecule, while the m.lecules with two 5’ ends had ΔCp values that were essentially the sam. as blunt-ended duplexes. These observations suggested differences exist in duplexes with 3’ and 5’ dangling ends, which are interpreted in term. of com.osite differences in interactions with Na+, solvent, and term.nal base pairs of the duplex.
