Long-term results of single-procedure catheter ablation for atrial fibrillationin pre-and post-menopausal women

Objectives To address whether menopause affects outcome of catheter ablation （CA） for atrial fibrillation （AF） by comparing the safety and long-term outcome of a single-procedure in pre-and post-menopausal women. Methods A total of 743 female patients who underwent a single CA procedure of drug-refractory AF were retrospectively analyzed. The differences in clinical presentation and outcomes of CA for AF between the pre-menopausal women （PreM group, 94 patients, 12.7%） and the post-menopausal women （PostM group, 649 patients, 87.3%） were assessed. Results The patients in the PreM group were younger （P＆lt;0.001） and less likely to have hypertension （P＆lt;0.001） and diabetes （P=0.005） than those in the PostM group. The two groups were similar with regards to the proportion of concomitant mitral valve regurgitation coronary artery disease, left atrium dimensions, and left ventricular ejection fraction. The overall rate of complica-tions related to AF ablation was similar in both groups （P=0.385）. After 43 （16-108） months of follow-up, the success rate of ablation was 54.3%in the PreM group and 54.2%in the PostM group （P=0.842）. The overall freedom from atrial tachyarrhythmia recurrence was simi-lar in both groups. Menopause was not found to be an independent predictive factor of the recurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmia. Conclusions The long-term outcomes of single-procedure CA for AF are similar in pre-and post-menopausal women. Results indicated that CA of AF appears to be as safe and effective in pre-menopausal women as in post-menopausal women.

Background It is unclear whether catheter ablation(CA)for atrial fibrillation(AF)affects the long-term prognosis in the *** study aims to evaluate the relationship between CA and long-term outcomes in elderly patients with *** Patients more than 75 years old with non-valvular AF were prospectively enrolled between August 2011 and December 2017 in the Chinese Atrial Fibrillation Registry *** who underwent CA at baseline were propensity score matched(1:1)with those who did not receive *** outcome events included all-cause mortality,cardiovascular mortality,stroke/transient ischemic attack(TIA),and cardiovascular *** Overall,this cohort included 571 ablated patients and 571 non-ablated patients with similar characteristics on 18 *** a mean follow-up of 39.75±19.98 months(minimum six months),24 patients died in the ablation group,compared with 60 deaths in the non-ablation group[hazard ratio(HR)=0.49,95%confidence interval(CI):0.30-0.79,P=0.0024].Besides,6 ablated and 29 non-ablated subjects died of cardiovascular disease(HR=0.25,95%CI:0.11-0.61,P=0.0022).A total of 27 ablated and 40 non-ablated patients suffered stroke/TIA(HR=0.79,95%CI:0.48-1.28,P=0.3431).In addition,140 ablated and 194 non-ablated participants suffered cardiovascular hospitalization(HR=0.84,95%CI:0.67-1.04,P=0.1084).Subgroup analyses according to gender,type of AF,time since onset of AF,and anticoagulants exposure in initiation did not show significant *** In elderly patients with AF,CA may be associated with a lower incidence of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality.

BACKGROUND Patients with atrial fibrillation(AF)and prior stroke history have a high risk of cardiovascular events despite anticoagulation *** is unclear whether catheter ablation(CA)has further benefits in these *** AF patients with a previous history of stroke or systemic embolism(SE)from the prospective Chinese Atrial Fibrillation Registry study between August 2011 and December 2020 were included in the *** were matched in a 1:1 ratio to CA or medical treatment(MT)based on propensity *** primary outcome was a composite of all-cause death or ischemic stroke(IS)/*** During a total of 4.1±2.3 years of follow-up,the primary outcome occurred in 111 patients in the CA group(3.3 per 100 person-years)and in 229 patients in the MT group(5.7 per 100 person-years).The CA group had a lower risk of the primary outcome compared to the MT group[hazard ratio(HR)=0.59,95%CI:0.47–0.74,P<0.001].There was a significant decreasing risk of all-cause mortality(HR=0.43,95%CI:0.31–0.61,P<0.001),IS/SE(HR=0.73,95%CI:0.54–0.97,P=0.033),cardiovascular mortality(HR=0.32,95%CI:0.19–0.54,P<0.001)and AF recurrence(HR=0.33,95%CI:0.30–0.37,P<0.001)in the CA group compared to that in the MT *** analysis generated consistent results when adjusting for time-dependent usage of *** In AF patients with a prior stroke history,CA was associated with a lower combined risk of all-cause death or IS/*** clinical trials are warranted to confirm the benefits of CA in these patients.

A self-adaptive inorganic in-situ separator by particle crosslinking for nonflammable lithium-ion batteries

All-safe liquid-state lithium-ion batteries(ASLS-LIBs) is of great interest as they can potentially combine the safety of all-solid-state batteries with the high performance and low manufacturing cost of traditional liquid-state LIBs. However, the practical success of ASLS-LIBs is bottlenecked by the lack of advanced separator technology that can simultaneously realize high performances in puncturing-tolerability,fire-resistance, and importantly, wetting-capability with non-flammable liquid-electrolytes. Here, we propose a concept of inorganic in-situ separator(IISS) by hybrid-sol physical crosslinking directly onto the electrode surface to address the above challenges. Particularly, the hybrid-sol is designed with silica nanoparticles as the building block and poly(vinylidene difluoride) nanoparticles as the crosslinking agent. The critical factors for controlling the IISS microstructures and properties have been systematically investigated. The advantages of the IISS have been confirmed by its fast wetting with various fireresistant liquid-electrolytes, customizable thickness and porous structures, robust interface with planar or three-dimensional(3D)-structured electrodes, and importantly, unexpected self-adaptability against puncturing. Enabled by the above merits, a fire-resistant ASLS-LIB is successfully assembled and demonstrated with stable electrochemical performance. This sol-crosslinked IISS may open an avenue for the studies on the next-generation separator technology, cell assembling, solid electrolyte processing as well as non-flammable secondary batteries.

Background:Accurate prediction of ischemic stroke is required for deciding anticoagulation use in patients with atrial fibrillation(AF).Even though only 6%to 8%of AF patients die from stroke,about 90%are indicated for anticoagulants according to the current AF management ***,we aimed to develop an accurate and easy-to-use new risk model for 1-year thromboembolic events(TEs)in Chinese AF ***:From the prospective China Atrial Fibrillation Registry cohort study,we identified 6601 AF patients who were not treated with anticoagulation or ablation at *** selected the most important variables by the extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost)algorithm and developed a simplified risk model for predicting 1-year *** novel risk score was internally validated using bootstrapping with 1000 replicates and compared with the CHA2DS2-VA score(excluding female sex from the CHA2DS2-VASc score).Results:Up to the follow-up of 1 year,163 TEs(ischemic stroke or systemic embolism)*** the XGBoost algorithm,we selected the three most important variables(congestive heart failure or left ventricular dysfunction,age,and prior stroke,abbreviated as CAS model)to predict 1-year TE *** trained a multivariate Cox regression model and assigned point scores proportional to model *** CAS scheme classified 30.8%(2033/6601)of the patients as low risk for TE(CAS score=0),with a corresponding 1-year TE risk of 0.81%(95%confidence interval[CI]:0.41%–1.19%).In our cohort,the C-statistic of CAS model was 0.69(95%CI:0.65–0.73),higher than that of CHA2DS2-VA score(0.66,95%CI:0.62–0.70,Z=2.01,P=0.045).The overall net reclassification improvement from CHA2DS2-VA categories(low=0/high≥1)to CAS categories(low=0/high≥1)was 12.2%(95%CI:8.7%–15.7%).Conclusion:In Chinese AF patients,a novel and simple CAS risk model better predicted 1-year TEs than the widely-used CHA2DS2-VA risk score and identified a large proportion of patients with low risk of TEs,which

A novel 2.2 Gbps LVDS driver circuit design based on 0.35μm CMOS

This paper presents a novel high-speed low voltage differential signaling （LVDS） driver design for pointto-point communication. The switching noise of the driver was greatly suppressed by adding a charge/discharge circuit and the operating frequency of the circuit was also increased. A simple and effective common-mode feedback circuit was added to stabilize the output common-mode voltage. The proposed driver was implemented in a standard 0.35 μm CMOS process with a die area of 0.15 mm^2. The test result shows that the proposed driver works well at 2.2 Gbps with power consumption of only 23 mW and 21.35 ps peak-to-peak jitter under a 1.8 V power supply.

We study the spin-dependent electron transport in an armchair graphene nanoribbon sample driven by both the charge and the spin biases within the tight-binding *** numerical calculations we give the spin-dependent currents for a fixed spin bias as a function of the charge *** is found that we can let only one type of spin current pass through the graphene nanoribbon for a wide range of charge bias,which is due to the difference of the bias voltage windows for different spin electrons when the charge and the spin biases ***,the pure spin current can be controlled via the charge *** results are suggestive for developing new kinds of spin filters.

Trustworthy Service Selection Integrating Cloud Model and Possibility Degree Ranking of Interval Numbers

It has been challenging to select suitable services from abundant candidates in cloud *** to the characteristics of batch computing mode and stream computing mode, a novel trustworthy service selection approach is proposed integrating cloud model and interval numbers theory. To facilitate potential users to understand the quality of service, the trustworthiness of service is described with interval number using reverse cloud generator, and the services with poor performance are filtered out by employing deviation degree or proximity degree. Two formulas of possibility degree of interval numbers are designed to compare the trustworthiness values between cloud services by utilizing probability zone analysis and geometrical analysis respectively, and the ranking method for possibility degree of interval numbers is exploited to select the most trustworthy service. The experiments show that this approach is effective to improve the accuracy of service selection and select trustworthy service for potential users in cloud paradigm.
