Plant-derived natural products have long been a vital source for developing therapeutic drugs. Wedelolactone(WDL), a coumestan isolated from Eclipta prostrata, Wedelia calendulacea, Wedelia chinensis, and Sphagneticola trilobata, demonstrates a broad spectrum of therapeutic potential, including anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, anti-myotoxic,antimicrobial, anti-diabetic, and tissue-protective activities. This review synthesizes information on the isolation, total synthesis, pharmacological activity, underlying mechanisms, and pharmacokinetic properties of WDL. Additionally, it offers insights into potential clinical applications and future drug discovery avenues utilizing WDL or its derivatives, either independently or in combination with other pharmaceuticals.

There have been reports of potential health risks for people from hydrophobic organic pollutants,such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs),polychlorinated hydrocarbons(PCHs),and organophosphate flame retardants(OPFRs).When a contaminated site is used for residential housing or public utility and recreation areas,the soil-bound organic pollutantsmight pose a threat to human *** this study,we investigated the contamination profiles and potential risks to human health of 15 PAHs,6 PCHs,and 12 OPFRs in soils from four contaminated sites in *** used an in vitro method to determine the oral bioaccessibility of soil *** PAHswere found at concentrations ranging from26.4 ng/g to 987 ng/***(0.27-14.3 ng/g)and OPFRs(6.30-310 ng/g)were detected,but at low levels compared to earlier *** levels of PAHs,PCHs,and OPFRs released from contaminated soils into simulated gastrointestinal fluids ranged from 1.74%to 91.0%,2.51%to 39.6%,and 1.37%to 96.9%,*** on both spiked and unspiked samples,we found that the oral bioaccessibility of pollutantswas correlated with their logKow andmolecularweight,and the total organic carbon content and pH of *** in 13 out of 38 contaminated soil samples posed potential high risks to *** considering oral bioaccessibility,nine soils still posed potential risks,while the risks in the remaining soils became *** contribution of this paper is that it corrects the health risk of soil-bound organic pollutants by detecting bioaccessibility in actual soils from different contaminated sites.

Ulcerative colitis [UC] is established by a chronic， diffuse inflammation of colonic mucosa with poorly defined etiology， and without sufficient treatment or cure available for remission. In this context， there is a growing recognition and consensus that synbiotic supplement may be promising and impactful strategies towards ameliorating UC and related inflammatory disorders， garnering significant attention from researchers as an alternative therapy. Herein， we innovatively prepared a novel synbiotic combination including Lactobacillus acidophilus， Bifidobacterium infants and prebiotics konjac glucomannan oligosaccharides [KGMO] to explore the potential therapeutic effects in dextran sodium sulfate [DSS] induced UC mouse model. The results demonstrated that the synbiotic effectively improved colitis symptoms in mice by mitigating weight loss， disease activity index [DAI]， colonic pathological damage， and colonic oxidative stress. it also observed that the synbiotic preserve intestinal barrier function integrity， reduces metabolic endotoxemia as well as inhibits the TLR4/NF-κB， NLRP3/Caspase-1， and Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway. Furthermore， the synbiotic modulated microbial homeostasis directly by enhancing beneficial microbes and reducing potentially harmful bacteria. In addition， microbiome phenotype prediction and bacterial functional potential prediction analysis demonstrated that the synbiotic supplementation regulated gut microbiota function involving inflammatory injury， metabolism， immune response， and pathopoiesia. Especially， the synbiotic not only restored the balance of Th1/Th2 cells as well as Th17/Treg cells along with specific inflammatory factors expression， but also maintained bile acid homeostasis by regulating FXR/FGF15 signaling pathway. Especially important is that the synbiotic was as effective as mesalazine against UC. The accumulation of^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny in poorly ventilated environments poses the risk of natural radiation exposure to the public.A previous study indicated that satisfactory results in determining the^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny concentrations by measuring the total alpha counts at five time intervals within 560 min should be expected only in the case of high progeny concentrations in *** complete the measurement within a relatively short period and adapt it for simultaneous measurements at comparatively lower^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny concentrations,a novel mathematical model was proposed based on the radioactive decay *** model employs a nonlinear fitting method to distinguish nuclides with overlapping spectra by utilizing the alpha particle counts of non-overlapping spectra within consecutive measurement cycles to obtain the concentrations of^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny in *** verification experiments were conducted using an alpha *** experimental results demonstrate that the concentrations of^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny calculated by the new method align more closely with the actual circumstances than those calculated by the total count method,and their relative uncertainties are all within±16%.Furthermore,the measurement time was reduced to 90 min,representing an acceleration of 84%.The improved capability of the new method in distinguishing alpha particles with similar energies emitted from ^(218)Po and^(212)Bi,both approximately 6 MeV,contributed to realizing more accurate *** proposed method has the potential advantage of measuring relatively low concentrations of^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny in air more quickly via air filtration.

To the Editor:With the popularity of liver transplantation(LT)and the inspiration for long-time survival,issues related to evaluating the liver allograft have increased in recent years[1-3].Although there has been renewed interest in non-invasive methods to evaluate diffuse liver disease,liver biopsy is still the golden standard in clinical practice,particularly for liver transplant recipients(LTRs).The liver biopsy has always been performed in LTRs as a part of standard procedure in cases whose liver function was normal,named as protocol liver biopsy,or to identify histological abnormalities for abnormal liver function and provide guidance for the adjustment of immunosuppressive regimen[4,5].Percutaneous liver biopsy(PLB)has been frequently conducted in LTRs;however,the clinical implementation of protocol liver biopsy by PLB in LTRs is challenging due to their suboptimal compliance,particularly in China[6].Besides,the PLB procedure has been associated with discomfort and potentially life-threatening complications in the general population,as reported in the literature[7,8].
