Intraspecific maternal competition in insect parasitoids induces summer diapause in insect parasitoids

Organisms often live in unpredictable environments and have to adopt life history strategies that optimize their fitness under these *** to bet-hedging theory,individuals can reduce variation in fitness outcomes by investing in different strategies at the same *** arthropods,facultative summer diapause enables survival during dry and hot periods of the year,and can be triggered by a decrease in resource abundance. However,the effect of resource depletion on diapause induction has never been disentangled from the effect of the perception of the presence of *** two solitary parasitoid species of cereal aphids as a model system,Aphidius avenae (Haliday)and Aphidius rhopalosiphi (De Stefani-perez)(Hymenoptera:Braconidae),we tested whether (i)low absolute host density and/or (ii)high levels of parasitoid females'competition lead to maternal-induced summer diapause in parasitoid *** summer-like climatic conditions,emerging parasitoid females were (i)reared alone and exposed to different host densities (from 5 to 130 aphids),or (ii)reared together with competing females (from 2 to 20 females)and then exposed individually to 50 *** both parasitoid species, low aphid densities did not induce summer ***,the incidence of summer diapause increased up to a maximum of 11% with increasing levels of competition expe rienced by female *** than 60% of the females produced both diapausing and nondiapausing offspring after being kept at the two highest competition densities. AIMTo evaluate the performance of FibroMeterVirus3G combined to the first generation tests aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) or Forns index to assess significant fibrosis in chronic hepatitis c (cHc). METHODSFirst generation tests APRI or Forns were initially applied in a derivation population from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil considering cut-offs previously reported in the literature to evaluate significant fibrosis. FibroMeterVirus3G was sequentially applied to unclassified cases from APRI or Forns. Accuracy of non-invasive combination of tests, APRI plus FibroMeterVirus3G and Forns plus FibroMeterVirus3G was evaluated in the Brazilian derivation population. APRI plus FibroMeterVirus3G combination was validated in a population of cHc patients from Angers in France. All patients were submitted to liver biopsy staged according to METAVIR score by experienced hepatopathologists. Significant fibrosis was considered as METAVIR F ≥ 2. The fibrosis stage classification was used as the reference for accuracy evaluation of non-invasive combination of tests. Blood samples for the calculation of serum tests were collected on the same day of biopsy procedure or within a maximum 3 mo interval and stored at -70 °c. RESULTSSeven hundred and sixty cHc patients were included (222 in the derivation population and 538 in the validation group). In the derivation population, the FibroMeterVirus3G AUROc was similar to APRI AUROc (0.855 vs 0.815, P = 0.06) but higher than Forns AUROc (0.769, P Virus3G cut-off to discriminate significant fibrosis was 0.61 (80% diagnostic accuracy; 75% in the validation population, P = 0.134). The sequential combination of APRI or Forns with FibroMeterVirus3G in derivation population presented similar performance compared to FibroMeterVirus3G used alone (79% vs 78% vs 80%, respectively, P = 0.791). An analysis of the reproducibility from signal record bioelectric heart activity is presented. The measurements were carried out with a recently patented medical device, which one is able to record the curves of pressure arterial and venous as those obtained using the gold standard technique in these evaluations, the cardiac catheterization technique. The measurements were carried out 15 health subjects and patients;each one was measured 5 times in order to have auto-correlations and correlations of these records. Analysis indicates correlations from 0.9 to 1 as long as p values were below 0.05. It is indicated an excellent reproducibility of evaluated patients.

A study of the phase transitions in superconducting thin films of the Thallium-Barium-calcium-copper (TBccO) system is carried out. In particular, it was got the Tl-1223 phase. For this purpose, and using the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis technique, Barium-calcium-copper precursor films were first obtained. Upon deposition of the precursor films, and as a second step, they were thallium (Tl) diffused in the one-zone furnace at 860°c. This methodology resulted in superconducting films that showed a phase transition as follows: Tl-2223 → Tl-2223 + Tl-2212 → Tl-2212 → Tl-1223, achieved between 2 and 7 hours of thallium diffusion. The evidence of the phase transitions was corroborated by the experimental results of X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy and resistance-temperature measurements.

背景:糖尿病肺结核患者产生异常X线影像的比较性研究。目的:对大量糖尿病肺结核患者的X线影像进行评价。设计:复习住院的糖尿病肺结核患者(TBDM组,n=192)的X线片,与对照组单纯肺结核病患者(TB组,n=130)进行比较。结果:两组的结核病演变时间相似(～2年)。所观察到的统计学差异如下:TBDM组病人年龄较高(为51.3±0.9岁,TB组为44.9±1.8岁,均数±均数标准误),上肺野发生率降低(17％比56％),下肺野病变发生率(19％比7％)及上肺野加下肺野病变率之和(82％比59％)升高。TBMD组发生空洞的病人多(82％比59％),并且多发生于下肺野(29％比3％)。多发空洞常见于TBDM组病人(25％比2％)。TBDM组病人白细胞总数偏低(8836.7±219.5比10013.1±345.2/mm^3),主要由于非淋巴细胞的白细胞数低(6815.8±221.8比8095.7±321.9/mm^3)。多元logistic回归分析显示,糖尿病是造成下肺野病灶和空洞最重要的因素。结论:本研究以大量糖尿病肺结核患者资料证实这些病人的胸部X线影像与典型的表现显著不同。临床医生必须牢记这点以避免误诊。
