Proteomic analyses were done on 2 chemosensory appendages of the lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum. Proteins in the fore tarsi, which contain the olfactory Haller＇s organ, and in the palps, that include gustatory sensilla, were compared with proteins in the third tarsi. Also, male and female ticks were compared. Proteins were identified by sequence similarity to known proteins, and by 3-dimensional homology modeling. Proteomic data were also compared with organ-specific transcriptomes from the tick Rhipicephalus microplus. The fore tarsi express a lipocalin not found in the third tarsi or palps. The fore tarsi and palps abundantly express 2 proteins, which are similar to insect odorant-binding proteins （OBPs）. compared with insect OBPs, the tick OBP-like sequences lacked the cysteine absent in c-minus OBPs, and 1 tick OBP-like sequence had additional cysteines that were similar to c-plus OBPs. Four proteins similar to the antibiotic protein microplusin were found： 2 exclusively expressed in the fore tarsi and 1 exclusively expressed in the palps. These proteins lack the microplusin copper-binding site, but they are modeled to have a significant internal cavity, potentially a ligand-binding site. Proteins similar to the dust mite allergens Der p7 and Der f 7 were found differentially expressed in female fore tarsi. A protein exclusively expressed in the fore tarsi has similarities to Neto, which is known to be involved in clustering ofionotropic glutamate receptors. These results constitute the first report of OBP-like protein sequences in ticks and point to several research avenues on tick chemosensory reception.

Review of literature: Role of 5-aminolevulinic acid and sleep

Objective: To determine if current peer-reviewed literature supports the existence of a relationship between the administration of dietary supplements containing 5-Aminolevulinic Acid (5-ALA) and sleep. Methods: conceptual analysis of a systematically defined group of data is based on publications in referred journals. constant comparative analyses were used to analyze the data. Detailed analyses were used to identify trends that led to qualifying relationships between the use of 5-ALA and heme. In addition, the relationship among heme, melatonin, and sleep were explored. Since there were no published data related to 5-ALA and sleep, an analysis of what is known about 5-ALA and heme was undertaken. Results: currently, within the scope of this review, no literature available directly connecting 5-ALA and sleep was found. Research indicates that 5-ALA has an indirect relationship with intra-cellular energy production, which could result in a wide range of effects fromcellular to endocrine to neurologic to behavioral. In addition, there is evidence that 5-ALA may influence tryptophan and serotonin levels. conclusion: While there are no studies on 5-ALA and sleep were found, current research suggests several potential mechanisms by which 5-ALA could influence sleep. The mechanisms suggest the potential for 5-ALA to assist in the adjustment of a person’s circadian cycle, endocrine function, or neurologic function in order to allow for better sleep in a natural way. In doing so, it may provide for a safer alternative to currently available sleep medication. Further research is needed to explore this possibility.

Spain has been one of the main global pandemic epicenters for coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19).Here,we analyzed>41000 genomes(including>26000 high-quality(HQ)genomes)downloaded from the GISAID repository,including 1245(922 HQ)sampled in *** aim of this study was to investigate genome variation of novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-coV-2)and reconstruct phylogeographic and transmission patterns in *** analysis suggested at least 34 independent introductions of SARS-coV-2 to Spain at the beginning of the *** lineages spread very successfully in the country,probably favored by super-spreaders,namely,A2 a4(7.8%),A2 a5(38.4%),A2 a10(2.8%),B3 a(30.1%),and B9(8.7%),which accounted for 87.9% of all genomes in the Spanish *** distinct feature of the Spanish SARS-cov-2 genomes was the higher frequency of B lineages(39.3%,mainly B3 a+B9)than found in any other European *** B3 a,B9,(and an important sub-lineage of A2 a5,namely,A2 a5 c)most likely originated in Spain,the other three haplogroups were imported from other European *** B3 a strain may have originated in the Basque country from a B3 ancestor of uncertain geographic origin,whereas B9 likely emerged in *** time of the most recent common ancestor(TMRcA)of SARS-coV-2 suggested that the first coronavirus entered the country around 11 February 2020,as estimated from the TMRcA of B3 a,the first lineage detected in the ***,earlier claims that the D614 G mutation is associated to higher transmissibility is not consistent with the very high prevalence of cOVID-19 in Spain when compared to other countries with lower disease incidence but much higher frequency of this mutation(56.4% in Spain vs.82.4% in rest of Europe).Instead,the data support a major role of genetic drift in modeling the micro-geographic stratification of virus strains across the country as well as the role of SARS-coV-2 super-spreaders.

Antioxidant and immunomodulatory effects of Viusid in patients with chronic hepatitis c

AIM:To investigate the efficacy of Viusid,a nutritional supplement,as an antioxidant and an immunomodulator in patients with chronic hepatitis ***:Sixty patients with chronic hepatitis c who were non-responders to standard antiviral treatment were randomly assigned to receive Viusid(3 sachets daily,n=30) or placebo(n=30) for 24 *** primary outcome was the change in serum malondialdehyde and 4-hydroxyalkenals(lipid peroxidation products).Secondary outcomes were changes in serum tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interferon-γ(IFN-γ) and interleukin-10(IL-10).RESULTS:Statistically significant reductions in serum 4-hydroxyalkenals and malondialdehyde levels were observed in both groups in comparison with pretreatment values,but the patients who received Viusid showed a more marked reduction as compared with the control group(P=0.001).TNF-α levels significantly increased from 6.9 to 16.2 pg/mL(Pceived placebo in comparison with almost unchanged levels,from 6.6 to 7.1 pg/mL(P=0.26),in the patients treated with Viusid(P=0.001).In addition,IL-10 levels were markedly increased in the patients treated with Viusid(from 2.6 to 8.3 pg/mL,P=0.04) in contrast to the patients assigned to placebo(from 2.8 to 4.1 pg/mL,P=0.09)(P=0.01).Likewise,the administration of Viusid markedly increased mean IFN-γ levels from 1.92 to 2.89 pg/mL(Pcomparison with a reduction in mean levels from 1.80 to 1.68 pg/mL(P=0.70) in the placebo group(Pcate that treatment with Viusid leads to a notable improvement of oxidative stress and immunological parameters in patients with chronic hepatitis c.

Problem: 5-ALA has been used for many years at relatively high dose amounts in single doses for photodynamic therapy and immunofluorescence of tumors. An analysis of compiled data relating to safety and any side-effects about the use of 5-ALA at low doses has not yet been published. Purpose: This report analyzes data about the safety of the use of 5-Aminolevulinic Acid (5-ALA) in low doses as a supplement over an extended period of time. Methods: This investigation is a systematic analysis of the current literature ((Medline, and SBI) and snowballing techniques) related to the safety and efficacy of 5-ALA in animals and humans. clinical trials in progress using 5-ALA were also analyzed. constant comparative analyses were used to synthesize the findings. Results: The safety of low-dose 5-ALA as a supplement has been demonstrated by animal and human studies. The results suggest that none of the investigations document the presence of symptoms or abnormal laboratory results of clinical significance. The minor laboratory changes documented were judged not clinically significant.

Arteriovenous fistulas(AVFs)are a vital form of AV access for patients requiring hemodialysis,but they link to overall morbidity and mortality when they fail to *** most common cause of AVF non-maturation is neointimal hyperplasia(NIH).To minimize the deleterious effects of NIH,a perivascular wrap composed of polycaprolactone(PcL),rosuvastatin(ROSU),and gold nanoparticles(AUNPs)was *** study assessed the impact of ROSU-eluting,radiopaque resorbable perivascular wraps on pathologic NIH in a chronic kidney disease(cKD)rodent model of *** PcL wraps containing AuNPs and/or ROSU were monitored for in vitro tensile strength,AuNP release,ROSU elution,and effect on cellular *** wraps were then implanted around an AVF in a cKD rodent model for in vivo ultrasound(US)and micro-computed tomography(mcT)*** specimens were collected for histological *** viability was preserved in the presence of both AuNP-and ROSU-containing *** vitro release of ROSU and AuNPs correlated with in vivo findings of decreasing radiopacity on mcT over ***-loaded wraps had higher radiopacity(1270.0-1412.0 HU at week 2)compared with other wraps(103.5-456.0 HU),which decreased over *** addition of ROSU decreased US and histologic measurements of *** reduced NIH seen with ROSU-loaded perivascular wraps suggests a synergistic effect between mechanical support and anti-hyperplasia ***,AuNP loading increased wrap ***,our results show that AuNP-and ROSU-loaded PcL wraps induce AVF maturation and suppress NIH while facilitating optimal implanted device visualization.

Hydrolysis - Hydrogenation of soybean oil and tallow

Hydrolysis reactions are of major importance to the oleochemical industry in the production of fatty acid and their derivates. Hydrolysis of triglyceride from vegetable oil has been studied under various parameters such as: heterogeneous catalyst, temperature, reaction time and agitation speed. During the hydrolysis of soybean oil and tallow using nickel catalysts on alumina support was verified that the glycerol produced worked as hydrogen donor, allowing the hydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids produced. Maximum conversion was achieved in 3 hours, catalysts 25% NiO/Al2O3, temperature of 250oc and 270oc and 250 rpm.
