Laboratory and field testing of bolting systems subjected to highly corrosive environments

The capacity of ground support components which have been affected by corrosion is reduced and may ultimately lead to dynamic failure of the component and the strata. In order to maintain an effective,long-term ground support system, significant campaigns of rehabilitation are often required in corrosion affected areas which also expose the workers to hazardous conditions. The most common corrosion protection for steel ground support utilises sacrificial systems such as galvanising. Galvanising has previously been proven to be susceptible to some corrosion processes. Stainless steel is the most effective in resistance to corrosion, but can be cost prohibitive, and its mechanical properties often make it unsuited to use in ground support components. Providing an outer protective plastic coating to bolts has proven to be an effective means of protecting the inner steel bar from corrosion. However, these support systems tend to be susceptible to coating damage, and require post cement grouting to provide full encapsulation. In comparison to a standard bolt/resin system, they can be slow to install and *** systems have also been shown to reduce overall load transfer performance of the bolting system. In order to provide a higher level of corrosion protection whilst maintaining current installation practices and bolting cycle times, Minova has developed the Enduro^(TM)steel ground support range. The Enduro^(TM) range consists of standard Minova steel ground support components which have been treated with a unique coating process. The Enduro^(TM)coating has been tested in the harshest of conditions, in laboratory controlled conditions and in underground trials. It has been proven to effectively resist or completely eliminate the formation of corrosion, even in the most aggressive environments. This paper explains the process and provides the details of the laboratory and underground corrosion performance testing carried out on Enduro^(TM)ground support product

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify, large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind, hydro, and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries, particularly those employing organic molecules, are positioned as a key technology for this purpose. This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs) within this context. Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode, symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes. This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design, and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems, as are opportunities for future development. This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs.

The interplay between soil physical parameters during the recovery from anoxic stresses （reoxidation） is largely unrecognized. This study was conducted to chaxacterise the soil aeration status and derive correlations between variable aeration factors during reoxidation. Surface layers （0-30 cm） of three soil types, Haplic Phaeozem, Mollic Gleysol, and Eutric cambisol （FAO soil group）, were selected for analysis. The moisture content was determined for a range of pF values （0, 1.5, 2.2, 2.7, and 3.2）, corresponding to the available water for microorganisms and plant roots. The variability of a number of soil aeration parameters, such as water potential （pF）, air-filled porosity （Eg）, oxygen diffusion rate （ODR）, and redox potential （Eh）, were investigated. These parameters were found to be interrelated in most cases. There were significant （P 〈 0.001） negative correlations of pF, Eg, and ODR with Eh. A decrease in water content as a consequence of soil reoxidation was manifested by an increase in the values of aeration factors in the soil environment. These results contributed to understanding of soil redox processes during recovery from flooding and might be useful for development of agricultural techniques aiming at soil reoxidation and soil fertility optimisation.

Plant defense responses involve several biological processes that allow plants to fight against pathogenic *** these different processes are orchestrated within organs and depend on specific cell types is poorly ***,using single-cell RNA sequencing(scRNA-seq)technology on three independent biological replicates,we identified several cell populations representing the core transcriptional responses of wild-type Arabidopsis leaves inoculated with the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas syringae *** these populations,we retrieved major cell types of the leaves(mesophyll,guard,epidermal,companion,and vascular S cells)with which we could associate characteristic transcriptional reprogramming and regulators,thereby specifying different cell-type responses to the *** analyses of transcriptional dynamics,on the basis of inference of cell trajectories,indicated that the different cell types,in addition to their characteristic defense responses,can also share similar modules of gene reprogramming,uncovering a ubiquitous antagonism between immune and susceptible ***,it appears that the defense responses of vascular S cells,epidermal cells,and mesophyll cells can evolve along two separate paths,one converging toward an identical cell fate,characterized mostly by lignification and detoxification *** this divergence does not correspond to the differentiation between immune and susceptible cells,we speculate that this might reflect the discrimination between cellautonomous and non-cell-autonomous *** our data provide an upgraded framework to describe,explore,and explain the specialization and the coordination of plant cell responses upon pathogenic challenge.
