The Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is a formula of a traditional chinese medicine that is used to treat asthma patients and has been shown to have several important properties,such as antioxidant and free radical scavenging *** influence of an extract of Liu Wei Di Huang Wan on the labeling of blood constituents with technetium-99m was *** blood(Wistar rats) was incubated with the extract,stannous chloride and technetium-99m,as sodium *** were centrifuged and aliquots of plasma and blood cells were separated and precipitated with trichloroacetic acid,to obtain soluble and insoluble fractions of the blood *** percentage of radioactivity(%ATI) in all the fractions was *** analysis of the results shows that the extract at the highest concentration used(70 mg/mL) decreased significantly(Pm 96.48 ± 1.19 to 54.46 ± 7.38) on blood cells compartment,(from 81.11 ± 4.15 to 61.33 ± 4.74) on insoluble fractions of blood cells and(from 65.91 ± 2.44 to 13.15 ± 3.62) on insoluble fractions of *** conclusion,the results suggest that the substances present on this extract can alter this labeling process,probably due to(i) redox properties(antioxidant and chelator activities) and/or(ii) specific actions in the binding sites where the 99mTc would be bound on the blood *** a consequence,precaution is suggested on the interpretation of the nuclear medicine results from performed with blood constituents labeled with 99m Tc in patients that have undertaken LWDHW,although the current findings were obtained in experimental animal models.

Background： Nutrition is one of the most important factors that affect animal performance, and it therefore also impacts on financial results in beef systems. In this way, finding the best strategy for feeding supplements is of paramount importance. Aiming to evaluate the effect of supplement feeding strategies for beef cows in the last third of gestation, two experiments were conducted. In Experiment 1, 35 pregnant Nellore cows were assigned to a completely randomized design with four treatments： control, which received no supplement; supplementation for the last 30 d of gestation（30-d; 3.0 kg/d）; supplementation for the last 60 d of gestation（60-d; 1.5 kg/d）; or supplementation for the last 90 d of gestation（90-d; 1.0 kg/d）. All supplemented treatments received the same total amount of supplement throughout the experiment： 90 kg（20% of crude protein）. A second experiment（Experiment 2） was delineated to evaluate the effects of the amounts offered in Experiment 1 on intake and metabolism. Four multiparous pregnant Nellore cows were assigned to a 4 × 4 Latin square design, with periods of15 d ***： There was a linear effect of the number of days of supplementation on calving body weight（BW; P 〈 0.05）and a quadratic effect on BW change from parturition to d 31 post-calving（P 〈 0.05）, with cows on the 60-d strategy losing less BW post-calving. No difference was found in offspring birth BW（P 〉 0.10）. A significant linear effect on interval from parturition to conception（P 〈 0.05） was observed, with the highest calving to conception interval being observed in the 90-d strategy. The level of supplementation did not affect forage intake or neutral detergent fiber digestibility（P 〉 0.10）. current challenges in the development of scaffolds for bone regeneration include the engineering of biomaterials that can withstand a natural dynamic physiology on the bone that provides a matrix capable of supporting cell migration and tissue ingrowth. The objective of the present work was to develop and characterize a new biomembrane—mineralized Exoskeleton Shrimp (mES) developed from the exoskeleton of paleomonetes. The integration of mES as a biomaterial for tissue regeneration relies on the growing evidence that the shrimp is characterized by a hierarchically arranged chitin fiber structure, mineralized predominately by calcium carbonate and/or calcium phosphate, bringing beneficial effects in bone regeneration. Additionally, the tridimensional mES structure, can act as a “tent” for Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR). Recently, our team has characterized the mES biomaterial by in vitro (human osteoblastic cellular cultures and immersion of the membrane in modified synthetic plasma) and in vivo (soft tissue in lab mice and hard tissue in rabbit model). The cellular growth in the mES membrane was very exuberant in cellular culture with osteoblastic colonization on its surface (histophilic and biocompatible). After the immersion in modified synthetic plasma for one week, a mass mineralization occurred throughout the membrane’s surface (bioactive). The analysis of histological samples from experimental surgery in lab mice showed that the mES membrane wasn’t toxic to soft tissues and that it caused a moderate inflammatory response (first reabsorption signs at 8 weeks). The mES could act as a cell-guiding template that contains the necessary cues and adequate three-dimensional set to facilitate cell adhesion and promote tissue regeneration upon implantation and subsequent biodegradation.

This work was carried out at Embrapa. milk cattle and experimental field were located in coronel Pacheco, mG, Brazil, in the period of December 2008 to may 2009. It was aimed to evaluate the effect of two different defoliation intervals on the morphology and morphogenetic characteristics of Tanzania grass (Urochloa maxima) pasture. The treatments consisted of evaluations of 2 management strategies on pastures were: 1) IL95—consisted of the entry of animals into the pickets when the pasture reached 95% of interception of photosynthetically active radiation, with 3 days of picket occupation and 2) FIXED—pasture managed with 30 days of defoliation interval and 3 days of picket occupation. Ten cows (Holstein × Zebu) recently delivered were used to effectuate the grazer of the evaluated areas. The measured variables were analyzed by the mist model. The best model selection was based on the Akaike information criterion, in which the likelihood was evaluated for the different proposed models, where the composed symmetry had the better adjustment to the model. The management caused differences on the biomass production and on the morphological and morphogenetic structure of Tanzania grass, in which the criterion of interception of photosynthetically active radiation allowed higher efficiency on the area usage.

AIm To evaluate the association between polymorphismsin glutathione S transferases(GSTs) and the risk of sporadic colorectal cancer(ScRc), tumor progression and the survival of *** A case-control study of 970 individuals from the Brazilian population was conducted(232 individuals from the case group with colorectal cancer and 738 individuals from the control group without a history of cancer). PcR multiplex and PcR-RFLP techniques were used to genotype the GST polymorphisms. The tumors were categorized according to the TNm classification: tumor extension(T), affected lymph nodes(N), and presence of metastasis(m). Logistic regression, multiple logistic regression and survival analysis were used to analyze the data. The results are presented in terms of odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(cI). The level of significance was set at 5%(P ≤ 0.05).RESULTS Age equal to or over 62 years(OR = 8.79; 95%cI: 5.90-13.09, P male gender(OR = 2.91; 95%cI: 1.74-4.37; P ciated with increased risk of ScRc. Analysis of the polymorphisms revealed an association between the GSTm1 polymorphisms and a risk of ScRc(OR = 1.45; 95%cI: 1.06-2.00; P = 0.02), as well as between GSTT1 and a reduced risk of the disease(OR = 0.65; 95%cI: 0.43-0.98; P = 0.04). An interaction between the presence of the wild-type allele of GSTP1 Ile105 Val polymorphism and tobacco consumption on risk of ScRc(OR = 2.33; 95%cI: 1.34-4.05; P = 0.05) was observed. chemical composition of the Essential Oil and Nitrogen metabolism of menthol mint under Different Phosphorus Levels

The purpose of this work was to evaluate the effects of different phosphorus levels (0.05, 0.5, 1 and 2 mm) under nitrogen metabolism and the essential oil profile of menthol mint (mentha arvensis L.). The relationship between the leaf maturity and the essential oil profile was also explored. The experiment was conducted in a hydroponic system located in a grow chamber during 41 days and after the harvest, nitrate reductase activity, and the -N, amino-N, and soluble sugars levels of each plant part were evaluated. Also the essential oil from young leaves (6th to 8th node) and adult leaves (3rd to the 5th node) was analyzed. An uptake mechanism related to the increase in fresh weight of the roots was promoted with the use of low P levels (0.05 and 0.50 mmol·L-1). With 1 mmol·L-1 P plants showed in all parts an increased nitrate reductase activity and high levels of nitrate and amino-N in leaves. Plants submitted to the lowest P level (0.05 mmol·L-1) presented high levels of menthol. In leaves from 6th to 8th node (mature leaves) menthol level was approximately 87% of the essential oil however leaves from the 3rd to the 5th node (young leaves) showed high levels of pulegone, that can be toxic for humans. The results indicate that the essential oil quality in menthol mint is influenced by the leaf maturity and the P levels. Also it was showed that the oil extracted from mature leaves of plants under low P levels has the best commercial profile.

Analysis of Tracheal Secretion in Healthy Horses Undergoing a Vaquejada Simulation Test

This study aimed to evaluate the occurrence of EIPH in vaquejada horses via endoscopy and tracheal lavage and citology. We used eight Quarter-mile horses that usually perform at vaquejadas. clinical examination was carried out before the race. After the race, endoscopy and tracheal lavage with 20 ml of saline via the service channel of the endoscope were performed. The samples were sent to the laboratory for processing and confection of the slides. Of the eight horses (four pull and four helper horses), six had hemosiderophages in their tracheal aspirates, confirming the existence of pulmonary hemorrhage after exercise. No difference was observed between the analyzed parameters between the two groups of vaquejada horses (P > 0.05). Tracheal lavage and endoscopy can be used for evaluating this important disease in animal athletes.
