Background:Hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)is the most common cause of cancer-related death in Saudi *** study aimed to investigate the patterns of Hcc and the effect of tNM staging,Alfa-fetoprotein(AFP),and child-turcotte Pugh(ctP)on patients’overall survival(OS).Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 43 Hcc patients at a single oncology center in Saudi Arabia from 2015 to *** patients had to fulfill one of the following criteria:(a)a liver lesion reported as definitive Hcc on dynamic imaging and/or(b)a biopsy-confirmed ***:the mean patient age of all Hcc cases was 66.8 with a male-to-female ratio of 3.3:*** patients were stratified into two groups:viral Hcc(n=22,51%)and non-viral Hcc(n=21,49%).Among viral-Hcc patients,55%were due to HBV and 45%due to *** was diagnosed in 79%of *** and sex did not significantly statistically differ in OS among viral and non-viral Hcc patients(p-value>0.05).About 65%of patients had tumor size>5 cm during the diagnosis,with a significant statistical difference in OS(p-value=0.027).AFP was>400 ng/ml in 45%of the *** was a statistically significant difference in the OS in terms of AFP levels(p-value=0.021).A statistically significant difference was also observed between the ctP score and OS(p-value=0.02).ctP class B had the longest *** was the most common treatment provided to Hcc patients followed by sorafenib *** was a significant statistical difference in OS among viral and non-viral Hcc patients(p-value=0.008).conclusions:the most common predictors for OS were the underlying cause of Hcc,AFP,and tumor *** having non-viral etiology,a tumor size>5 cm,an AFP>400 ng/mL,and a ctP score class c were all negatively associated with OS.

Many physical experiments have shown that the domain switching in a ferroelectric material is a complicated evolution process of the domain wall with the variation of stress and electric field. According to this mechanism, the volume fraction of the domain switching is introduced in the constitutive law of ferroelectric ceramic and used to study the nonlinear constitutive behavior of ferroelectric body in this paper. the principle of stationary total energy is put forward in which the basic unknown quantities are the displacement ui, electric displacement Di and volume fraction pI of the domain switching for the variant I. Mechanical field equation and a new domain switching criterion are obtained from the principle of stationary total energy. the domain switching criterion proposed in this paper is an expansion and development of the energy criterion. On the basis of the domain switching criterion, a set of linear algebraic equations for the volume fraction PI of domain switching is obtained, in which the coefficients of the linear algebraic equations only contain the unknown strain and electric fields. then a single domain mechanical model is proposed in this paper. the poled ferroelectric specimen is considered as a transversely isotropic single domain. By using the partial experimental results, the hardening relation between the driving force of domain switching and the volume fraction of domain switching can be calibrated. then the electromechanical response can be calculated on the basis of the calibrated hardening relation. the results involve the electric butterfly shaped curves of axial strain versus axial electric field, the hysteresis loops of electric displacement versus electric filed and the evo- lution process of the domain switching in the ferroelectric specimens under uniaxial coupled stress and electric field loading. the present theoretic prediction agrees reasonably with the experimental results given by Lynch.

this paper uses a finite dominating set （FDS） to investigate the multi-facility ordered median problem （OMP） in a strongly connected directed network. the authors first prove that the multi-facility OMP has an FDS in the node set, which not only generalizes the FDS result provided by Kalcsics, et al. （2002）, but also extends the FDS result from the single-facility case to the multiple case, filling an important gap. then, based on this FDS result, the authors develop an exact algorithm to solve the problem. However, if the number of facilities is large, it is not practical to find the optimal solution, because the multi-facility OMP in directed networks is NP-hard. Hence, we present a constant-approximation algorithm for the p-median problem in directed networks. Finally, we pose an open problem for future research.

this paper is concerned with the modeling of randomness in multiscale analysis of heterogeneous materials. More specifically, a framework dedicated to the stochastic modeling of random properties is first introduced. A probabilistic model for matrix-valued second-order random fields with symmetry propertries, recently proposed in the literature, is further reviewed. Algorithms adapted to the Monte carlo simulation of the proposed representation are also provided. the derivations and calibration procedure are finally exemplified through the modeling of the apparent properties associated with an elastic porous microstructure containing stochastic interphases.

current structural analysis software programs offer few if any applicable device-specifi c hysteresis rules or nonlinear elements to simulate the precise mechanical behavior of a multiple friction pendulum system(MFPS) with numerous sliding *** on the concept of subsystems,an equivalent series system that adopts existing nonlinear elements with parameters systematically calculated and mathematically proven through rigorous derivations is *** aim is to simulate the characteristics of sliding motions for an MFPS isolation system with numerous concave sliding interfaces without prior knowledge of detailed information on the mobilized forces at various sliding *** MFPS with numerous concave sliding interfaces and one articulated or rigid slider located between these interfaces is divided into two subsystems: the fi rst represents the concave sliding interfaces above the slider,and the second represents those below the *** equivalent series system for the entire system is then obtained by connecting those for each subsystem in *** equivalent series system is validated by comparing numerical results for an MFPS with four sliding interfaces obtained from the proposed method with those from a previous study by Fenz and ***,these numerical results demonstrate that an MFPS isolator with numerous concave sliding interfaces,which may have any number of sliding interfaces,is a good isolation device to protect structures from earthquake damage through appropriate designs with controllable mechanisms.

Microstructural evolution of infrared vacuum brazed cP-ti using two ti-based braze alloys,ti-15cu-15Ni and ti-15cu-25Ni,has been *** infrared brazed joint consisted of eutectic ti 2 cu/ti 2 Ni intermetallic compounds and ti-rich *** eutectic ti 2 cu/ti 2 Ni intermetallic compounds disappeared from the joint after being annealed at 900 c for 1 *** contrast,the depletion rate of both cu and Ni from the braze alloy into cP-ti substrate at 750 c annealing was greatly decreased as compared with that annealed at 900 *** ti 2 cu/ti 2 Ni phases were observed even if the specimen was annealed at 750 c for 15 *** the Ni content of the ti-15cu-25Ni braze alloy is much higher than that of the ti-15cu-15Ni alloy,the amount of eutectic ti 2 cu/ti 2 Ni phases in ti-15cu-25Ni brazed joint is more than that in ti-15ci-15Ni brazed ***,similar microstructural evolution can be obtained from the infrared brazed joint annealed at various temperatures and/or time for both filler metals.

Structural modeling of sandwich structures with lightweight cellular cores

An effective single layered finite element （FE） computational model is proposed to predict the structural behavior of lightweight sandwich panels having two dimensional （2D） prismatic or three dimensional （3D） truss cores. three different types of cellular core topology are considered： pyramidal truss core （3D）, Kagome truss core （3D） and corrugated core （2D）, representing three kinds of material anisotropy： orthotropic, monoclinic and general anisotropic. A homogenization technique is developed to obtain the homogenized macroscopic stiffness properties of the cellular core. In comparison with the results obtained by using detailed FE model, the single layered computational model can give acceptable predictions for both the static and dynamic behaviors of orthotropic truss core sandwich panels. However, for non-orthotropic 3D truss cores, the predictions are not so well. For both static and dynamic behaviors of a 2D corrugated core sandwich panel, the predictions derived by the single layered computational model is generally acceptable when the size of the unit cell varies within a certain range, with the predictions for moderately strong or strong corrugated cores more accurate than those for weak cores.

Dent corn, as a catch crop used for salt removal, was cultivated at different densities, i.e., 7.3 （low density）, 59.7 （normal density）, and 119.5 plants m-2 （high density）, during a 50 d fallow period after cultivation of a commercial crop in a greenhouse, to analyze the characteristics of nutrient salt （N, K, Mg, and ca） uptake by roots and to study the effect of plant density on the characteristics associated with crop water use. Leaf area index for the high and normal density treatments reached extremely high values of 24.3 and 14.9, respectively. these values induced higher transpiration rates that were estimated using the Penman-Monteith model with the incorporation of specific parameters for crop and greenhouse conditions. the total N, K, Mg, and ca contents in the crop canopy at harvest were 26.8, 13.0, 1.0, and 1.7 g m-S, respectively, under the high density treatment. the dynamics of salt uptake rates for high, normal, and low density treatments were evaluated by assessing weekly changes in salt content, and were subsequently compared against the transpiration rate. A positive linear relationship was obtained between these 2 parameters for all 3 density treatments and all tested salts. Hence, higher transpiration rates caused higher salt uptake rates through water absorption. On the other hand, salt uptake efficiency per unit water use by cultivation was lower in the low density treatment. therefore, management procedures with dense planting that induce higher transpiration rates and lower evaporation rate are extremely important for the effective cultivation of corn catch crops.
