Oxygen(O_(2))-sensing matrices are promising tools for the live monitoring of extracellular O_(2) consumption levels in long-term cell *** this study,ratiometric O_(2)-sensing membranes were prepared by electrospinning,an easy,low-cost,scalable,and robust method for fabricating ***(ε-caprolactone)and poly(dimethyl)siloxane polymers were blended with tris(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline)ruthenium(II)dichloride,which was used as the O_(2)-sensing probe,and rhodamine B isothiocyanate,which was used as the reference *** functionalized scaffolds were morphologically characterized by scanning electron microscopy,and their physicochemical profiles were obtained by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,thermogravimetric analysis,and water contact angle *** sensing capabilities were investigated by confocal laser scanning microscopy,performing photobleaching,reversibility,and calibration curve studies toward different dissolved O_(2)(DO)*** sensing nanofibers showed a high response to changes in DO concentrations in the physiological-pathological range from 0.5%to 20%and good stability under ratiometric *** addition,the sensing systems were highly biocompatible for cell growth promoting adhesiveness and growth of three cancer cell lines,namely metastatic melanoma cell line SK-MEL2,breast cancer cell line McF-7,and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cell line Panc-1,thus recreating a suitable biological environment in *** O_(2)-sensing biomaterials can potentially measure alterations in cell metabolism caused by changes in ambient O_(2)content during drug testing/validation and tissue regeneration processes.

Development and screening of(ca-P-Si-F)-PEO coatings for biodegradability control of Mg-Zn-ca alloys

PEO coatings were developed on MgZnxcayalloys for biomedical applications using different treatment times and a novel transparent electrolyte containing ca,P,Si and *** characteristics and chemical composition of studied materials were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction and optical *** investigations were performed for uncoated and coated materials using potentiodynamic polarization,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and hydrogen evolution measurements in three media(0.9wt.%Nacl,α-MEM and inorganic part ofα-MEM).Findings revealed that Zn-rich intermetallics favour the formation of large voids in the ***,P,F and Si are successfully incorporated into the *** consist of crystalline phases(Mg O,Mg F_(2)and ca,Si-rich compounds)and amorphous *** and organic components ofα-MEM solution accelerate corrosion of the bare substrates but have no significant influence on the corrosion resistance of coated ***,inorganicα-MEM can be considered as an appropriate medium for fast screening of PEO *** relatively small amount of F content in the barrier layer facilitates early failure of the coatings,which show undercoating ***-rich intermetallic particles in the undercoating crevice induce a more aggressive corrosive environment and enhanced micro-galvanic couple effect with the Mg *** leads to faster degradation of the coated alloys compared to the bare substrates.

Group theory(GT) provides a rigorous framework for studying symmetries in various disciplines in physics ranging from quantum field theories and the standard model to fluid mechanics and chaos theory. To date, the application of such a powerful tool in optical physics remains limited. Over the past few years however, several quantum-inspired symmetry principles(such as parity-time invariance and supersymmetry) have been introduced in optics and photonics for the first time. Despite the intense activities in these new research directions, only few works utilized the power of group theory. Motivated by this status quo, here we present a brief overview of the application of GT in optics, deliberately choosing examples that illustrate the power of this tool in both continuous and discrete setups. We hope that this review will stimulate further research that exploits the full potential of GT for investigating various symmetry paradigms in optics, eventually leading to new photonic devices.

Expression of matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 in human gastric cancer and superficial gastritis

Development of Mathematical Model for control Wear in Backup Roll for Hot Strip Mill

The precision of strip flatness depends on several factors; wear of rolls is one of the main variables that have influence on the surface quality of the strip. The wear of the roils represents a complex friction condition, sometimes the wear in the backup roll is not analyzed because the strip is not in contact with the backup roll; however, after several campaigns of rolling, the wear in the backup roll becomes dangerous because the pressure distribution is not uniform. Investigation of mechanism of the surface deterioration of the backup roll for the hot strip rolling is very important for the development of the automatic strip shape control system used in hot strip mills. A mathematical model is developed considering the Hertzian pressure distribution between two cylinders with parallel axes. It is used in real time for calculating the wear in the backup roll and in this manner take deci- sions for preventing finished product reworking or damage of equipments, which result in accidents caused by excessive wear in the backup rolls.

Aim:It remains unclear what the best therapeutic option for recurrent glioma patients after Stupp treatment ***(BVZ)is commonly administered in progression,but it appears that only some patients *** would be useful to find biomarkers that determine beforehand who these patients ***:The protocol included 31 high-risk progressing glioma patients after Stupp treatment who received BVZ 5-10 mg/kg every 14 days and temozolomide(3-19 cycles,150-200 mg five days each 28-day cycle)during a mean of eight cycles of BVZ or until tumor progression or unacceptable *** analyzed the clinical outcome values of inflammatory indices measured before BVZ ***:Lymphocyte level before BVZ administration was the best independent predictor of overall survival(HR=0.34;95%cI:0.145-0.81;P=0.015).The area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROc)curve was 0.823,with 1.645 being the optimal cut-off value,and 0.80 and 0.85 the sensitivity and specificity values,*** and non-responder survival curves were also significantly different,considering the first and second tertiles as cut-off *** number of BVZ cycles was not related to *** neutrophil platelet levels,platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR),and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)did not have independent predictive *** variables were not correlated with each ***,patients with high NLR and PLR simultaneously(double positive PLR-NLR)showed a worse clinical outcome than the rest(P=0.043).conclusion:Pretreatment lymphocyte levels and double positive PLR-NLR could be used as non-invasive hematological prognostic markers for recurrent gliomas treated with bevacizumab.A close relationship emerged between inflammation and angiogenesis.

Rotational stability of plate haptic toric intraocular lenses after combined 25-gauge vitrectomy and cataract surgery

AIM:To evaluate the postoperative intraocular lens(IOL)rotational stability and residual refractive astigmatism following combined 25-gauge vitrectomy and cataract surgery with implantation of a plate haptic toric ***:In this retrospective case series,32 eyes of 32 patients underwent a combined 25-gauge vitrectomy and phacoemulsification for vitreoretinal diseases and cataract with regular corneal astigmatism of at least 1 diopter(D).A plate haptic toric IOL(AT Torbi 709M,carl Zeiss Meditec AG)was implanted in all *** outcome measures were rotational stability and refractive astigmatism up to 6mo postoperatively as well as the best corrected visual acuity(BcVA).RESULTS:Preoperative refractive astigmatism was 2.14±1.17 D,which was significantly reduced to 0.77±0.37 D six to eight weeks postoperatively and remained stable throughout the observation period(0.67±0.44 D at three months and 0.75±0.25 D at six months;for all groups:Pcompared to baseline).BcVA improved significantly from 0.36±0.33 logMAR preoperatively to 0.10±0.15 logMAR following surgery(P=0.02).Mean IOL axis deviation from the target axis was 3.4°±2.9°after six to eight weeks and significantly decreased over time(2.4°±2.6°six months after surgery;P=0.04).In one patient IOL,re-alignment was ***:corneal astigmatism is significantly reduced following combined 25-gauge vitrectomy and cataract *** plate haptic toric IOL position and axis remain stable during the observation period of six months.

As-cast and extruded Mg-Zn-ca systems for biodegradable implants:characterization and corrosion behavior

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effect of alloy processing and composition as well as the pH control and testing medium on the in vitro corrosion performance of Mg-Zn-ca systems for biodegradable *** grain size and secondary phases were analyzed by optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,and X-ray *** kelvin probe force microscopy(SKPFM)was used to analyze the Volta potential values of the second *** corrosion performance of the three alloys was evaluated by electrochemical and hydrogen evolution methods inα-MEM with and without organic species(*** and inorganicα-MEM).Two strategies were followed to evaluate the influence of the pH on the corrosion behavior:daily solution replacement and cO_(2)flow based pH *** all the materials,the organic medium accelerates the corrosion *** pH maintained by cO_(2)flow through the medium results in considerably higher corrosion rates for all *** impact of pH is lesser on the as-cast alloys due to the barrier effect of the secondary phases,particularly pronounced in the Mg1Zn1ca alloy which showed the lowest corrosion *** wrought Mg0.5Zn0.2ca alloy that lacks the refined secondary phase network and exhibits high number of twins undergoes accelerated uniform corrosion under constant pH conditions.

china lies at the heart of the global center of freshwater crab diversity in tropical Asia,where the 2 most diverse families occur:Potamidae(505 species,95 genera)and Gecarcinucidae(344 species,59 genera).china stands out as the country with the highest species richness of freshwater crabs *** fauna comprises 243 species in 37 genera and in 2 families,and species discovery is still progressing at a rapid *** vast majority of the species are distributed in southwest,south central and eastern china in the Oriental zoogeographical *** also stands out as having a highly endemic freshwater crab fauna at the species level(96%)and at the genus level(78%).Although the recent International Union for the conservation of Nature(IUcN)red list conservation assessment found only 6 out of 228 species(2%)to be threatened(5 potamids and 1 gecarcinucid),the majority(more than 75%)of chinese species are regarded as data deficient,so the number of threatened species is likely to be a serious *** from increasing habitat destruction and pollution are a major concern due to the rapidly growing economy and massive developments taking place in *** is therefore an urgent need for increased species exploration and for the development of a conservation strategy for china’s threatened(and potentially threatened)endemic freshwater crab species.
