Slurry casting has been used to fabricate lithium-ion battery electrodes for decades,which involves toxic and expensive organic solvents followed by high-cost vacuum drying and electrode *** work presents a new manufacturing method using a nonthermal plasma to create inter-particle binding without using any polymeric binding materials,enabling solvent-free manufacturing electrodes with any electrochemistry of *** cold-plasma-coating technique enables fabricating electrodes with thickness(>200 pm),high mass loading(>30 mg cm^(-2)),high peel strength,and the ability to print lithium-ion batteries in an arbitrary *** crosscutting,chemistry agnostic,platform technology would increase energy density,eliminate the use of solvents,vacuum drying,and calendering processes during production,and reduce manufacturing cost for current and future cell ***,lithium iron phosphate and lithium cobalt oxide were used as examples to demonstrate the efficacy of the cold-plasma-coating *** is found that the mechanical peel strength of cold-plasma-coating-manufactured lithium iron phosphate is over an order of magnitude higher than that of slurry-casted lithium iron phosphate *** cells assembled with a graphite anode and the cold-plasma-coating-lithium iron phosphate cathode offer highly reversible cycling performance with a capacity retention of 81.6%over 500 *** the highly conductive cathode material lithium cobalt oxide,an areal capacity of 4.2 mAh cm^(-2)at 0.2 c is *** anticipate that this new,highly scalable manufacturing technique will redefine global lithium-ion battery manufacturing providing significantly reduced plant footprints and material costs.

The organ-specific toxicity resulting from microplastic(MP)exposure has been extensively explored,particularly concerning the gut,liver,testis,and ***,under natural conditions,these effects are not restricted to specific organs or *** whether MP exposure presents a systemic threat to an entire organism,impacting factors such as lifespan,sleep,and fecundity,is *** this study,we investigated the effects of dietary exposure to two different doses of MPs(1–5μm)using the terrestrial model organism Drosophila *** indicated that the particles caused gut damage and remained within the digestive *** MP exposure significantly shortened the lifespan of adult *** short-term exposure disrupted sleep patterns,increasing the length of daytime sleep ***,one week of MP exposure reduced ovary size,with a trend towards decreased egg-laying in mated *** MPs did not penetrate the brain or ovaries,transcriptome analysis revealed altered gene expression in these *** the ovary,Gene Ontology(GO)analysis indicated genotoxic effects impacting inflammation,circadian regulation,and metabolic processes,with significant impacts on extracellular structure-related *** the brain,GO analysis identified changes in pathways associated with proteolysis and carbohydrate ***,this study provides compelling evidence of the systemic negative effects of MP exposure,highlighting the urgent need to address and mitigate environmental MP pollution.

为更好地监测管道泄漏和控制水压,智能供水管网管理系统(简称“智管网”)正逐步应用于城市供水管网。传统的供水监测仪表和传感器多采用蓄电池供电,由于电池寿命与容量有限,使得在实时监测模式下需要经常更换电池,造成经济与人力的耗费。通过数值模拟研究和实验研发了一种结构简单、安装方便的内联闭式水力发电系统,消耗有限的水头便可为“智管网”感应和监测设备及数据传输装置提供可靠的电力,通过提高站点之间的通信频次来保障实时监控,同时避免频繁地更换电池。此外,该管道水轮机通过管道内的喇叭口与挡块设计来实现双向流发电。介绍了该系统的工作设计原理和仿真实验研究结果,以及实测的内联闭式水力发电运行数据。实验结果表明,该系统能够可靠地运行,可为下一步的研发提供宝贵的理论和应用基础。

A Model of the Sea-Land Transition of the Mean Wind Profile in the Tropical cyclone Boundary Layer considering climate changes

The tropical cyclone boundary layer(TcBL)connecting the underlying terrain and the upper atmosphere plays a crucial role in the overall dynamics of a tropical cyclone *** tropical cyclones approach the coastline,the wind field inside the TcBL makes a sea-land transition to impact both onshore and offshore *** better understanding of the wind field inside the TcBL in the sea-land transition zone is of great *** this end,a semiempirical model that integrates the sea-land transition model from the Engineering Sciences Data Unit(ESDU),Huang's refined TcBL wind field model,and the climate change scenarios from the coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(cMIP6)is used to investigate the influence of climate changes on the sea-land transition of the TcBL wind flow in Hong *** specifically,such a semiempirical method is employed in a series of Monte-carlo simulations to predict the wind profiles inside the TcBL across the coastline of Hong Kong under the impact of future climate *** wind profiles calculated based on the Monte-carlo simulation results reveal that,under the influences of the most severe climate change scenario,slightly higher and significantly lower wind speeds are found at altitudes above and below 400 m,respectively,compared to the wind speeds recommended in the Hong Kong Wind code of *** findings imply that the wind profile model currently adopted by the Hong Kong authorities in assessing the safety of low-to high-rise buildings may be unnecessarily over-conservative under the influence of climate *** the other hand,the coded wind loads on super-tall buildings slightly underestimate the typhoon impacts under the severe climate change conditions anticipated for coastal southern china.

Unsupervised learning methods were applied to explore data patterns in multivariate geophysical datasets collected from ocean floor sediment core samples coming from scientific ocean drilling in the South china *** to studies on similar datasets,but using supervised learning methods which are designed to make predictions based on sample training data,unsupervised learning methods require no a priori information and focus only on the input *** this study,popular unsupervised learning methods including K-means,self-organizing maps,hierarchical clustering and random forest were coupled with different distance metrics to form exploratory data *** resulting data clusters were externally validated with lithologic units and geologic time scales assigned to the datasets by conventional methods. compact and connected data clusters displayed varying degrees of correspondence with existing classification by lithologic units and geologic time scales.K-means and self-organizing maps were observed to perform better with lithologic units while random forest corresponded best with geologic time *** study sets a pioneering example of how unsupervised machine learning methods can be used as an automatic processing tool for the increasingly high volume of scientific ocean drilling data.

Unsupervised machine learning methods were applied on multivariate geophysical and geochemical datasets of ocean floor sediment cores collected from the South china Sea. The well-preserved and continuous core samples comprising high resolution cenozoic sediment records enable scientists to carry out paleoenvironment studies in detail. Bayesian age-depth chronological models constructed from biostratigraphic control points for the drilling sites are applied on cluster boundaries generated from two popular unsupervised learning methods: K-means and random forest. The unsupervised learning methods experimented have produced compact and unambiguous clusters from the datasets, indicating that previously unknown data patterns can be revealed when all variables from the datasets are taken into account simultaneously. A study of synchroneity of past events represented by the cluster boundaries across geographically separated ocean drilling sites is achieved through converting the fixed depths of cluster boundaries into chronological ranges represented by Gaussian density plots which are then compared with known past events in the region. A Gaussian density peak at around 7.2 Ma has been identified from results of all three sites and it is suggested to coincide with the initiation of the East Asian monsoon. contrary to traditional statistical approach, a priori assumptions are not required for unsupervised learning, and the clustering results serve as a novel data-driven proxy for studying the complex and dynamic processes of the paleoenvironment surrounding the ocean sediment. This work serves as a pioneering approach to extract valuable information of regional events and opens up a systematic and objective way to study the vast global ocean sediment datasets.
