Preservation of growth factor sensitivity and bioactivity(e.g.,bone morphogenetic protein-2(BMP-2))post-immobilization to tissue engineering scaffolds remains a great ***,we develop a stable and soft surface modification strategy to address this ***-2(a model growth factor)is covalently immobilized onto homogeneous poly(glycidyl methacrylate)(PGMA)polymer brushes which are grafted onto substrate surfaces(Au,quartz glass,silica wafer,or common biomaterials)via surface-initiated atom transfer radical *** surface modification method multiplies the functionalized interfacial area;it is simple,fast,gentle,and has little effect on the loaded protein owing to the cilia *** immobilized BMP-2(i-BMP-2)on the surface of homogeneous PGMA polymer brushes exhibits excellent bioactivity(-87%bioactivity of free BMP-2 in vitro and 20%-50%higher than scaffolds with free BMP-2 in vivo),with conformation and secondary structure well-preserved after covalent immobilization and ethanol ***,the osteogenic activity of i-BMP-2 on the nanoline pattern(PGMA-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide))shows-110%bioactivity of free *** is superior compared to conventional protein covalent immobilization strategies in terms of both bioactivity preservation and therapeutic *** polymer brushes can be used to modify surfaces of different tissue-engineered scaffolds,which facilitates in situ immobilization of growth factors,and accelerates repair of a wide range of tissue types.

cyclic performance and simplified pushover analyses of precast segmental concrete bridge columns with circular section

In recent years, precast segmental concrete bridge columns became prevalent because of the benefits of accelerated construction, low environmental impact, high quality and low life cycle costs. The lack of a detailed configuration and appropriate design procedure to ensure a comparable performance with monolithic construction has impeded this structural system from being widely used in areas of high seismicity. In this study, precast segmental bridge column cyclic loading tests were conducted to investigate the performance of unbonded post-tensioned segmental bridge columns. One monolithic and two precast segmental columns were tested. The preeast segmental column exhibited minor damage and small residual displacement after the maximum 7% cyclic drift; energy dissipation （ED） can be enhanced byadding ED bars. The experimental results were modeled by a simplified pushover method （SPOM）, as well as a fiber model （FIBM） finite element method. Forty-five cases of columns with different aspect ratios, axial load ratios and ED bar ratios were analyzed with the SPOM and FIBM, respectively. Using these parametric results, a simplified design method was suggested by regressive analysis. Satisfactory correlation was found between the experimental results and the simplified design method for preeast segmental columns with different design parameters.

HI in High Gas-phase Metallicity Dwarf Galaxy WISEA J230615.06+143927.9

We present resolved Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope H I observations of the high gas-phase metallicity dwarf galaxy WISEA J230615.06+143927.9(z = 0.005)(hereafter J2306) and investigate whether it could be a Tidal Dwarf Galaxy(TDG) candidate. TDGs are observed to have higher metallicities than normal dwarfs. J2306 has an unusual combination of a blue g-r color of 0.23 mag, irregular optical morphology and high-metallicity(12 +log(O/H) = 8.68 ± 0.14), making it an interesting galaxy to study in more detail. We find J2306 to be an H I rich galaxy with a large extended, unperturbed rotating H I disk. Using our H I data we estimated its dynamical mass and found the galaxy to be dark matter(DM) dominated within its H I radius. The quantity of DM, inferred from its dynamical mass, appears to rule out J2306 as an evolved TDG. A wide area environment search reveals J2306 to be isolated from any larger galaxies which could have been the source of its high gas metallicity. Additionally, the H I morphology and kinematics of the galaxy show no indication of a recent merger to explain the *** detailed optical spectroscopic observations of J2306 might provide an answer to how a seemingly ordinary irregular dwarf galaxy achieved such a high level of metal enrichment.

Unique biogenesis and kinetics of hornwort Rubiscos revealed by synthetic biology systems

Hornworts are the only land plants that employ a pyrenoid to optimize Rubisco’s cO_(2) fixation,yet hornwort Rubisco remains poorly *** we assembled the hornwort Anthoceros agrestis Rubisco(AaRubisco)using the Arabidopsis thaliana SynBio expression system and observed the formation of stalled intermediates,prompting us to develop a new SynBio system with *** cognate *** successfully assembled AaRubisco and Rubisco from three other hornwort *** *** Rubisco,AaRubisco assembly is not dependent on RbcX or *** characterization reveals that hornwort Rubiscos exhibit a range of catalytic rates(3–10 s−1),but with similar affinity(∼30μM)and specificity(∼70)for cO_(2).These results suggest that hornwort Rubiscos do not comply with the long-held canonical catalytic trade-off observed in other land plants,providing experimental support that Rubisco kinetics may be phylogenetically ***,we observed a 50%increase in AaRubisco catalytic rates when RbcX was removed from our SynBio system,without any reduction in *** biology,biochemistry,and proteomic analysis suggest that subtle differences in Rubisco large-subunit interactions,when RbcX is absent during biogenesis,increases the accessibility of active sites and catalytic turnover ***,this study uncovered a previously unknown Rubisco kinetic parameter space and provides a SynBio chassis to expand the survey of other Rubisco *** discoveries will contribute to developing new approaches for engineering Rubisco with superior kinetics.

NONLINEAR DYNAMIcS IN THE SOL-GEL PROcESS

Si-29 NMR is used to measure the concentration of the various functional groups in an acid catalyzed Si(OEt)(4): EtOH: H2O sol-gel systems. The corresponding rate expressions for the reactions are shown in equations (1-3). The non-linear dynamics in the sol-gel process has been discussed. The molecular structure is changeable as the reactions proceed and the diffusion of clusters is spatially constrained. These factors lead to an anomalous kinetics. The overall rate coefficients have been got from numerical solution.

FHL2 deficiency aggravates candida albicans infection through decreased myelopoiesis

Hematopoiesis is a finely tuned process that generates all blood cell types through self-renewal and differentiation, which is crucial for maintaining homeostasis. Acute infections can prompt a hematopoietic response known as emergency myelopoiesis. In this study, using a candida albicans (c. albicans) infection model, we demonstrated for the first time that disruption of Fhl2 led to increased fungal burden,heightened inflammatory response and reduced survival rates. Impaired myeloid hematopoiesis and immune cell production were evident, as proved by the decreased numbers of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPcs) and granulocytes in the bone marrow of Fhl2-deficient mice. In conclusion, FHL2 regulated emergency myelopoiesis in response to c. albicans, affecting the host’s defense against pathogens.

Study on Melting and Recrystallization of Poly(butylene succinate) Lamellar crystals via Step Heating Differential Scanning calorimetry

Differential scanning calorimetry（DSc） has been widely applied to study crystallization and melting of materials. However, for polymeric lamellar crystals, the melting thermogram during heating process usually exhibits a broad endothermic peak or even multiple endotherms, which may result from changes of metastability via recrystallization process. Sometimes, the recrystallization exotherm cannot be observed due to its overlapping with the melting endotherm. In this work, we employed a step heating procedure consisting of successive heating and temperature holding stages to measure the metastability of isothermally crystallized poly（butylene succinate）（PBS） crystals. With this approach we could gain the fraction of crystals melted at different temperature ranges and quantitatively detect the melting-recrystallization behavior. The melting-recrystallization behavior depends on the polymer chain structure and the crystallization temperature. For instance, PBS block copolymer hardly shows recrystallization behavior while PBS oligomer and high molecular weight PBS homopolymer demonstrate remarkable melting-recrystallization phenomenon. High molecular weight PBS isothermally crystallized in the low temperature range shows multiple melting-recrystallization while those isothermally crystallized at elevated temperatures do not exhibit observable recrystallization behavior. Furthermore, the melting endotherms were fitted via the melting kinetics equations. The original isothermally crystallized lamellae demonstrate quite different melting kinetics from the recrystallized lamellar crystals that melt at the highest temperature range, which is attributed to the different degrees of stabilization. Finally, the mechanism of melting-recrystallization is briefly discussed. We propose that apparent meltrecrystallization phenomenon be observed when melting of preformed lamellar crystals and recrystallization of thicker lamellae have similar free energy barrier.

Hexavalent chromium[cr(Ⅵ)]causes serious harm to the environment due to its high toxicity,solubility,and ***(Fh)are the main adsorbent and trapping agent of cr(Ⅵ)in soils and aquifers,and they usually coexist with silicate(Si),forming Si-containing ferrihydrite(Si-Fh)***,the mechanism of cr(Ⅵ)retention by Si-Fh mixtures is poorly *** this study,the behaviors and mechanisms of cr(Ⅵ)adsorption onto Si-Fh with different Si/Fe molar ratios was *** electron microscope,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and other techniques were used to characterize Si-Fh and cr(Ⅵ)-loading of *** results show that specific surface area of Si-Fh increases gradually with increasing Si/Fe ratios,but cr(Ⅵ)adsorption on Si-Fh decreases with increasing Si/Fe *** is because with an increase in Si/Fe molar ratio,the point of zero charge of Si-Fh gradually decreases and electrostatic repulsion between Si-Fh and cr(Ⅵ)***,the complexation of cr(Ⅵ)is enhanced due to the increase in adsorbed hydroxyl(A-OH-)on Si-Fh with increasing Si/Fe molar ratio,which partly counteracts the effect of the electrostatic ***,the increase in the electrostatic repulsion has a greater impact on adsorption than the additional complexation with *** functional theory calculation further supports this observation,showing the increases in electron variation of bonding atoms and reaction energies of inner spherical complexes with the increase in Si/Fe ratio.
