Black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia L.),a species native to the eastern North America,was introduced to Europe probably in 1601 and currently extends over2.3×10~6 *** has become naturalized in all sub-Mediterranean and temperate regions rivaling Populus *** the second most planted broadleaved tree species worldwide after Eucalyptus *** wide-spreading planting is because black locust is an important multipurpose species,producing wood,fodder,and a source of honey as well as bio-oil and *** is also important for carbon sequestration,soil stabilization and re-vegetation of landfills,mining areas and wastelands,in biotherapy and *** Europe,black locust is drought tolerant so grows in areas with annual precipitation as low as 500-550 *** tolerates dry,nutrient poor soils but grows best on deep,nutrient-rich,well-drained *** is a fast-growing tree and the height,diameter and volume growth peak before the age of *** mostly regenerates vegetatively by root suckers under a simple coppice system,which is considered the most cost-effective management *** also regenerates,but less frequently,by stool *** early silviculture in production forests includes release cutting to promote root suckers rather than stool shoots,and cleaning-respacing to remove low-quality stems,reduce the number of shoots per stool,and adjust spacing between root *** addition,early,moderate and frequent thinning as well as limited pruning are carried out focusing on crop *** species is regarded as invasive in several European countries and its range here is expected to expand under predicted climate changes.

Objectives The video head impulse test(vHIT)is used as a measure of compensation yet it’s stability in patients with vestibular pathology is *** 144 patients(n=72 female,mean 54.46±15.8 years)were grouped into one of three primary diagnoses(Peripheral,central,or Mixed).Subjects were further categorized based on sex(male versus female),ear(left versus right;ipsilesional versus contralesional),age(six groups ranging from 19 to 84 years),and duration between visits(five groups,mean 191.46±SE 29.42 days,median 55.5 days).The gain of the vor.during passive head rotation was measured for each semicircular canal(horizontal,anterior,posterior).Results There was no difference in the vor.gain within any semicircular canal between the two visits(horizontal:p=0.179;anterior:p=0.628;posterior:p=0.613).However,the vor.gain from the horizontal canals was higher than the vertical canals for each visit(pcantly lower(p≤0.001)horizontal semicircular canal gains at each *** was no difference in vor.gain between sex(p=0.215)or age groupings(p=0.331).Test-retest reliability of vHIT in patient subjects is good(Icc=0.801)and the vor.gain values across two separate visits were significant and positively correlated(r=0.67)regardless of sex,ear,age,or duration between *** The vHIT is a stable measure of vor.gain over two different times across a variety of vestibular patients with no influence of age or sex.

Background: Late- onset Tay- Sachs disease (LOTS) is an adult- onset, autosomal recessive, progressive variant of GM2 gangliosidosis, characterized by involvement of the cerebellum and anterior horn cells. Objective: To determine the range of visual and ocular motor abnormalities in LOTS, as a prelude to evaluating the effectiveness of novel therapies. Methods: Fourteen patients with biochemically confirmed LOTS (8 men; age range 24 to 53 years; disease duration 5 to 30 years) and 10 age- matched control subjects were studied. Snellen visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, color vision, stereopsis, and visual fields were measured, and optic fundi were photographed. Horizontal and vertical eye movements (search coil) were recorded, and saccades, pursuit, vestibulo- ocular reflex (vor., vergence, and optokinetic (OK) responses were measured. Results: All patients showed normal visual functions and optic fundi. The main eye movement abnormality concerned saccades, which were “ multistep,” consisting of a series of small saccades and larger movements that showed transient decelerations. Larger saccades ended earlier and more abruptly (greater peak deceleration) in LOTS patients than in control subjects; these changes can be attributed to premature termination of the saccadic pulse. Smooth- pursuit and slow- phase OK gains were reduced, but vor. vergence, and gaze holding were normal. conclusions: Patients with late- onset Tay- Sachs disease (LOTS) show characteristic abnormalities of saccades but normal afferent visual systems. Hypometria, transient decelerations, and premature termination of saccades suggest disruption of a “ latch circuit” that normally inhibits pontine omnipause neurons, permitting burst neurons to discharge until the eye movement is completed. These measurable abnormalities of saccades provide a means to evaluate the effects of novel treatments for LOTS.

自从1950年日本古植物学家橘行一氏(Koichi Tachibana)在日本的岩手县(Iwate Prefecture)东祝郡(Higashiiwan-gun)的上泥盆纪的Nakakura(中仓)层发现Leptophloeum 化石后,这一属植物在中国于1951年陆续发现于湖北长阳的黄家磴层,江西安远的盘古山层,广东花县的打鼓岭层,甘肃天水的巴都系,其地层时代俱属于上泥盆纪。中国的上泥盆纪植物群曾经笔者描述于中国古生物志总号136册,新甲种第4号及中国科学第1卷第2期。1954年Leptophloeum 化石复发现于前宁夏回族自治区(现属于甘肃省)中宁县的上泥盆纪的红色硬砂岩层,此种重要发现复经笔者报道于古生物学报第2卷第2期及中国科学第3卷第1期。笔者在1952年所发表的论文中对于中国
