Photofermentative hydrogen production by immobilized Rhodopseudomonas sp. S16-VOGS3 cells in photobioreactors

One of the most important solutions to overcome energy and environmental problems and to replace the fossil fuel-based economy could be the use of photosynthetic *** use of photosynthetic microorganisms is a potential alternative to energy generation from fossil fuels because they efficiently produce hydrogen(H_(2)).Immobilization of photosynthetic microorganisms is used for many biotechnological applications such as H_(2) *** method appears attractive because it restricts cell movement in an entrapped *** of Rhodopseudomonas sp.S16-VOGS3 cells is a promising way to improve H_(2) *** this work,the ability of immobilized Rhodopseudomonas sp.S16-VOGS3 cells to produce H_(2) was investigated in two types of *** PBRs used in this work were a cylindrical one with 0.2 L working volume(c-PBR)and a flat Roux type with 0.6 L working volume(FRT-PBR).The calcium alginate beads prepared were resistant to culture mixing and showed little leakage of cells,and the immobilized cells continued the photofermentation process in both *** immobilized cells in the c-PBR produced 936.8 mL of H_(2) with an average H_(2) production rate of 2.99 mL/*** average productivity was 126.4μL(H_(2))/mg(cells)/h or 14.96 mL(H_(2))/L(culture)/h,and the light conversion efficiency was 2.37%.The immobilized cells in the FRT-PBR produced a total of 662.2 mL of H_(2) with an average H_(2) production rate of 1.55 mL/*** average productivity was 31.1μL(H_(2))/mg(cells)/h or 2.58 mL(H_(2))/L(culture)/h,and the light conversion efficiency was 0.52%.The more uniform and therefore more efficient degree of bacterial cell mixing achieved in the c-PBR with cylindrical configuration played an important role compared to the *** the FRT-PBR,the beads were aggregated at the bottom,which limited light penetration and resulted in low H_(2) production efficiency.

Evolution of sex ratio and egg production of gilthead seabream(Sparus aurata)over the course of five reproductive seasons

Spawning performance-relative fecundity and fertilization success-was studied in two hatchery-reared broodstocks of gilthead seabream(Sparus aurata)held under relatively constant well-water temperature(18-20◦c)and simulated natural photoperiod,for five consecutive spawning seasons,between 3 and 7 years of *** spawning season lasted between 4 and 6 months each year,and the total number of eggs produced annually ranged between 1480000 and 3100000 eggs/kg female body weight,being the highest during the first and second spawning *** difference was observed in monthly relative fecundity between years-although high variation existed within years,whereas fertilization success was the highest during the second and third reproductive season,and dropped significantly during the last year of the *** male percentage of the broodstocks was 35%during the first spawning season of the females,and thereafter it decreased further and remained stable at around 15%-20%for the second and third spawning *** of older females with smaller males to readjust male percentage to 50%in the fourth spawning season,was followed by sex change of larger males to females and a drop of the male percentage to 18%in the following spawning *** present study demonstrated the long spawning season of gilthead seabream-especially under constant water temperature,the high fecundity and fertilization success,and the stabilization of male percentage to~20%after the first spawning season or when a broodstock is modified to increase male *** results are useful to the aquaculture industry,demonstrating that there is no need to add males to gilthead seabream broodstocks over the years,as the sex ratio is stabilized and egg production and fertilization success remain high with a relatively low male:female sex ratio.

Defect in an immune regulator gene BrSRFR1 leads to premature leaf senescence in chinese cabbage

Leaf senescence is the final stage of leaf development, where the nutrients and energy of senescent leaves are redistributed to developing tissues or organs for plant growth, reproduction, and defense. Outer leaves are photosynthetic organs that usually senesce at the late heading stage in chinese cabbage, and premature leaf senescence often reduces leafy head yield and quality. In this study, 11 premature leaf senescence mutants were screened from an ethyl methanesulfonate-mutagenized population of the double haploid line ‘FT’ in chinese cabbage. At the early heading stage, the mutants exhibited edge yellowing within its outer leaves, and at the mature stage, its leafy head weight decreased significantly. Genetic analysis revealed that the mutated trait of all 11 mutants corresponds to single gene recessive inheritance. Semi-diallel cross tests showed that 5 of the 11 were allelic mutants. MutMap and Kompetitive Allele Specific PcR genotyping revealed that BraA01g001400.3c was the candidate gene, which is orthologous of Arabidopsis SUPPRESSOR OF rps4-RLD 1, encoding an immune regulator, so we named it as BrSRFR1. All the BrSRFR1 in the five allelic mutants exhibited single nucleotide polymorphisms at different positions on their exons and led to premature translation termination, which confirmed that defect in BrSRFR1 led to premature leaf senescence. These results verify the role of BrSRFR1 on leaf senescence and provide a new insight into the mechanisms of leaf senescence in chinese cabbage, which reveals a novel function of SRFR1 in plant development. © 2024 chinese Society for Horticultural Science (cSHS) and Institute of Vegetables and Flowers (IVF), chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (cAAS).

cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality,a fact that is commonly associated with co-morbidities such as clinical *** phase II cardiac rehabilitation is an established intervention for those with cardiovascular disease,its effect on patients who also suffer from depression are under ***:To quantify Pre-and Post-cardiac rehabilitation questionnaire scores collected from a large patient data *** this investigation,27670 patients completed Patient Health Questionnaire-9 questionnaires both Pre-and Post-rehabilitation(averaging[28.08.7]phase II sessions).Findings reveal that questionnaire scores decreased by 40%–48%across all groups,a finding that was independent of assigned sex,race,and ***,when data were stratified for questionnaire scores that may indicate major and minor depressive disorder,phase II cardiac rehabilitation outcomes were lower by 61%and 49%*** all groups exhibited lower questionnaire scores following cardiac rehabilitation participation,numerical differences at Preand Post-rehabilitation time points indicate that males and White patients have more favorable *** latter observation,while not confirmed currently,appears to be linked to referral rates to phase II cardiac rehabilitation,which remain poor for females,racial and ethnic minorities.

Survival outcomes in early-onset oesophageal adenocarcinoma patients:A systematic review and meta-analyses
