A 67-year-old woman underwent an orthotopic liver transplantation for end stage liver disease secondary to chronic autoimmune hepatitis. She developed sudden massive hematochezia on post-operative day 23 with hemodynamic compromise. The source of hemorrhage was found at colonoscopy after careful irrigation and inspection to be a dieulafoy lesion situated just proximal to the anorectal junction. Hemostasis was achieved with epinephrine injection and thermal coagulation.

Dynamic energy system modeling using hybrid physics-based and machinelearning encoder–decoder models

Three model configurations are presented for multi-step time series predictions of the heat absorbed by thewater and steam in a thermal power plant. The models predict over horizons of 2, 4, and 6 steps into thefuture, where each step is a 5-minute increment. The evaluated models are a pure machine learning model, anovel hybrid machine learning and physics-based model, and the hybrid model with an incomplete dataset. Thehybrid model deconstructs the machine learning into individual boiler heat absorption units: economizer, waterwall, superheater, and reheater. Each configuration uses a gated recurrent unit (GRU) or a GRU-based encoder–decoder as the deep learning architecture. mean squared error is used to evaluate the models compared totarget values. The encoder–decoder architecture is over 11% more accurate than the GRU only models. Thehybrid model with the incomplete dataset highlights the importance of the manipulated variables to the *** hybrid model, compared to the pure machine learning model, is over 10% more accurate on averageover 20 iterations of each model. Automatic differentiation is applied to the hybrid model to perform a localsensitivity analysis to identify the most impactful of the 72 manipulated variables on the heat absorbed in theboiler. The models and sensitivity analyses are used in a discussion about optimizing the thermal power plant.

Abstract Despite important gains in human rights, persons with disabilities -- and in particular women and girls with disabilities -- continue to experience significant inequalities in the areas of sexual, reproductive, and parenting rights. Persons with disabilities are sterilized at alarming rates; have decreased access to reproductive health care services and information; and experience denial of parenthood. Precipitating these inequities are substantial and instantiated stereotypes of persons with disabilities as either asexual or unable to engage in sexual or reproductive activities, and as incapable of performing parental duties. The article begins with an overview of sexual, reproductive, and parenting rights regarding persons with disabilities. Because most formal adjudications of these related rights have centered on the issue of sterilization, the article analyzes commonly presented rationales used to justify these procedures over time and across jurisdictions. Next, the article examines the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the attendant obligations of States Parties regarding rights to personal integrity, access to reproductive health care services and information, parenting, and the exercise of legal capacity. Finally, the article highlights fundamental and complex issues requiring future research and consideration.

Increasing production and disposal of coal fly ash （cFA） is a matter of serious environment concern. However, cFA contains various beneficial metals and mineral matters whose demand is increasing in the industrialized world, while natural supplies are diminishing. Therefore, recovery of these potential resources from cFA can be an alternative way to save mineral resources, as well as to reduce the environmental burden of cFA disposal. There are numerous methods developed for the recovery of beneficial products from cFA. Based on the US patents and journal literatures, the present review describes the recovery status and technologies of major elements such as Al, Si, Fe and Ti, and trace elements such as V, Ga, Ge, Se, Li, mo, U, Au, Ag, Pt groups and rare earth elements （REEs） and other beneficial products such as magnetic materials, cenospheres, and unburned carbon from cFA. It also highlights the recovery efficiency and drawbacks for their extraction, and suggests future research to develop satisfactory results in terms of selective recovery and purification.

Polyamines are small aliphatic amines found in almost all organisms,ranging from bacteria to plants and *** most plants,putrescine,the metabolic precursor for longer polyamines,such as spermidine and spermine,is produced from arginine,with either agmatine or ornithine as *** we show that Arabidopsis thaliana(Arabidopsis)arginine de-carboxylase 1(ADc1),one of the two known arginine decarboxylases in Arabidopsis,not only synthesizes agmatine from arginine,but also converts *** to *** analyses indicate that duplication and neofunctionalization of ADc1 and NATA1,the enzymes that synthesize Nδ-acetylormithine in Arabidopsis,co-occur in a small number of related species in the *** ADc2,which is localized in the chloroplasts,ADc1 is in the endoplasmic reticulum together with NATA1,an indication that these two enzymes have access to the same substrate ***,these results are con-sistent with a model whereby NATA1 and ADc1 to-gether provide a pathway for the synthesis of N-acetylputrescine in Arabidopsis.

Artifice--the manipulation of social and environmental stimuli--is fundamental to research in ani-mal behavior. State-of-the-art techniques have been developed to generate and present complexvisual stimuli. These techniques have unique strengths and limitations. However, many of theissues with synthetic animation and virtual reality are common to playback experiments in general,including those using unmanipulated video or auditory stimuli. Playback experiments, in turn, fallinto the broader category of experiments that artificially manipulate the array of stimuli experi-enced by a subject. We argue that the challenges of designing and interpreting experiments usingvirtual reality or synthetic animations are largely comparable to those of studies using oldertechnologies or addressing other modalities, and that technology alone is unlikely to solve thesechallenges. We suggest that appropriate experimental designs are the key to validating behavioralresponses to artificial stimuli and to interpreting all studies using artifice, including those that pre-sent complex visual displays.

Design Optimization of a micro-combustor for Lean, Premixed Fuel-Air mixtures

Present technology has been shifting towards miniaturization of devices for energy production for portable electronics. micro-combustors, when incorporated into a micro-power generation system, create the energy desired in the form of hot gases to power such technology. This creates the need for a design optimization of the micro-combustor in terms of geometry, fuel choice, and material selection. A total of five micro-combustor geometries, three fuels, and three materials were computationally simulated in different configurations in order to determine the optimal micro-combustor design for highest efficiency. Inlet velocity, equivalence ratio, and wall heat transfer coefficient were varied in order to test a comprehensive range of micro-combustor parameters. All simulations completed for the optimization study used ANSYS Fluent v16.1 and post-processing of the data was done in cFD Post v16.1. It was found that for lean, premixed fuel-air mixtures (φ= 0.6 - 0.9) ethane (c2H6) provided the highest flame temperatures when ignited within the micro-combustor geometries. An aluminum oxide converging micro-combustor burning ethane and air at an equivalence ratio of 0.9, an inlet velocity of 0.5 m/s, and heat transfer coefficient of 5 W/m2-K was found to produce the highest combustor efficiency, making it the optimal choice for a micro-combustor design. It is proposed that this geometry be experimentally and computationally investigated further in order to determine if additional optimization can be achieved.
