Study of damage behavior and repair effectiveness of patch repaired carbon fiber laminate under quasi-static indentation loading

Damage caused due to low-veloc.t. impacts in composites leads to substantial deterioration in their residual strength and eventually provokes structural *** work presents an experimental investigation on the effects of different patch and parent laminate stacking sequences on the enhancement of impact strength of carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers(cFRP)composites by utilising the adhesively bonded external patch repair *** evolution study is also performed with the aid of Acoustic Emission(AE).two different quasi-isotropic configurations were selected for the parent laminate,viz.,[45°/45°/0°/0°]s and[45°/0°/45°/0°]*** Static Indentation(QSI)test was performed on both the pristine laminates,and damage areas were detected by using the c-scan inspection *** laminates were repaired by using a single-sided patch of two different configurations,viz.,[45°/45°/45°/45°]and[45°/0°/0°/45°],and employing a circular plug to fill the damaged *** different combinations of repaired laminates with two configurations of each parent and patch laminate were produced,which were further subjected to the QSI *** results reveal the effectiveness of the repair method,as all the repaired laminates show higher impact resistance compared to the respective pristine *** of[45°/0°/0°/45°]configuration when repaired by taking[45°/45°/0°/0°]s and[45°/0°/45°/0°]s as parents exhibited 68%and 73%higher peak loads,respectively,than the respective pristine ***,parent and patch of configuration[45°/0°/45°/0°]s and[45°/0°/0°/45°],respectively,attain the highest peak load,whereas[45°/45°/0°/0°]s and[45°/45°/45°/45°]combinations possess the most gradual decrease in the load.

Acoustic emission （AE） can be used for in situ structural health monitoring of the composite laminates. One of the main issues of AE is to characterize different damage mechanisms from the detected AE signals. In the present work, pure resin and GFRP composites laminates with different stacking sequences such as 0°, 90°, angle ply[±45°], cross-ply [0°/90°] are used to trigger different failure mechanisms when subjected to tensile test with AE monitoring. the study of failure mechanisms is facilitated by the choice of different oriented specimens in which one or two such mechanisms predominate. Range of peak frequencies in each orientation is investigated using FFt analysis. Fast Fourier transform （FFt） enabled calculating the frequency content of each damage mechanism. Randomly selected hits from each range of peak frequencies for the specimens with different orientations subjected to tensile test with AE monitoring are analyzed using short time FFt （StFFt） analysis. StFFt analysis is used to highlight the possible failure mechanism associated with each signal. the predominance of failure modes in each orientation is useful in the study of discrimination of failure modes in composite laminates from AE data.

Significance of Stefan blowing effect on flow and heat transfer of casson nanofluid over a moving thin needle

the current mathematical model explains the influence of non-linear thermal radiation on the casson liquid flow over a moving thin needle by considering Buongiorno’s nanofluid *** influences of Stefan blowing,Dufour and Soret effects are also considered in the *** equations which represent the described flow pattern are reduced to ordinary differential equations(ODEs)by using apt similarity transformations and then they are numerically solved with Runge–Kutta-Fehlberg’s fourth fifth-order method(RKF-45)with shooting *** impacts of pertinent parameters on thermal,mass and veloc.t. curves are deliberated *** friction,rate of heat and mass transfer are also discussed *** reveal that,the increase in values of Brownian motion,thermophoresis,Dufour number,heating and radiative parameters improves the heat *** increasing values of the Schmidt number deteriorates the mass transfer but a converse trend is seen for increasing values of the Soret ***,the escalating values of the radiative parameter decays the rate of heat transfer.

Development of a new coated electrode with low nickel content for welding ductile iron and its response to austempering

coated Electrodes with small amounts of nickel were developed for welding ductile iron(DI) and conversion of the same into austempered ductile iron(ADI) after austempering. Among six electrodes, trials 3 and 4 were selected for establishing crack-free weld deposits via preheating and post-weld heat treatment. Austenitization was performed at 900°c for 2 h and austempering at 300 or 350°c for three different holding times to observe the results of austempering with respect to the microstructure, hardness, and austempering kinetics of the samples. the microstructures of the weld deposits showed needle-like bainitic ferrite with small amounts of retained austenite when treated at 300°c and feathery bainitic ferrite with large amounts of retainedaustenite when treated at 350°c. the electrode labeled with trial 3 revealed greater austenite contents than that labeled with trial 4 when treated with a 2 h holding time regardless of the austempering temperature applied. the transformation rate of the bainitic ferrite of trial 3 was relatively higher than that of trial 4 and showed a lower rate constant, leading to a higher diffusion rate of carbon in austenite.

charmonia and bottomonia in asymmetric magnetized hot nuclear matter

We investigate the mass-shift of P-wave charmonium(χc0,χc1),and S and P-wave bottomonium(ηb,■,χb0,andχb1)states in magnetized hot asymmetric nuclear matter using the unific.t.on of QcD sum rules(QcDSR)and the chiral S U(3)*** QcDSR,we use two approaches,i.e.,the moment sum rule and the Borel sum *** magnetic field induced scalar gluon condensateand the twist-2 gluon operatorcalculated in the chiral S U(3)model are utilised in QcD sum rules to calculate the in-medium mass-shift of the above *** attractive mass-shift of these mesons is observed,which is more sensitive to magnetic field in the high density regime for charmonium,however less so for *** results may be helpful to understand the decay of higher quarkonium states to the lower quarkonium states in asymmetric heavy ion collision experiments.

this paper is concerned with the modeling of randomness in multiscale analysis of heterogeneous materials. More specifically, a framework dedic.t.d to the stochastic modeling of random properties is first introduced. A probabilistic model for matrix-valued second-order random fields with symmetry propertries, recently proposed in the literature, is further reviewed. Algorithms adapted to the Monte carlo simulation of the proposed representation are also provided. the derivations and calibration procedure are finally exemplified through the modeling of the apparent properties associated with an elastic porous microstructure containing stochastic interphases.

Defect induced room-temperature ferromagnetism and enhanced photoc.t.lytic activity in Ni-doped ZnO synthesized by electrodeposition

Zn0.90Ni0.10O nanoparticles have been synthesized by single-bath two-electrode electrodeposition at constant voltage. X-ray diffraction, UV vis and photoluminescence studies reveal that a single-phase polycrystalline hcp wurtzite crystal structure of ZnO is evolved. the material consists of a large number of defects such as oxygen vacancy (Ov) and zinc interstitial (Zi). the magnetization study reveals that the sample exhibits room-temperature global ferromagnetism and the ferromagnetic ordering seems to be defect induced via bound magnetic polaron mechanism, and double exchange is also expected to have played role. Interesting optoelectronic properties have been found in the synthesized sample and the material seems to be a potential candidate to be used as a UV sensor. Such a transition metal doped ZnO based dilute magnetic semiconducting system exhibiting room-temperature ferromagnetism is likely to be first of its kind in the sense that such materials have not yet been reported to be synthesized by the simple method of electrodeposition to the best of our knowledge on the basis of ample literature review.

Equivalent series system to model a multiple friction pendulum system with numerous sliding interfaces for seismic analyses

current structural analysis software programs offer few if any applicable device-specifi c hysteresis rules or nonlinear elements to simulate the precise mechanical behavior of a multiple friction pendulum system(MFPS) with numerous sliding *** on the concept of subsystems,an equivalent series system that adopts existing nonlinear elements with parameters systematically calculated and mathematically proven through rigorous derivations is *** aim is to simulate the characteristics of sliding motions for an MFPS isolation system with numerous concave sliding interfaces without prior knowledge of detailed information on the mobilized forces at various sliding *** MFPS with numerous concave sliding interfaces and one articulated or rigid slider loc.t.d between these interfaces is divided into two subsystems: the fi rst represents the concave sliding interfaces above the slider,and the second represents those below the *** equivalent series system for the entire system is then obtained by connecting those for each subsystem in *** equivalent series system is validated by comparing numerical results for an MFPS with four sliding interfaces obtained from the proposed method with those from a previous study by Fenz and ***,these numerical results demonstrate that an MFPS isolator with numerous concave sliding interfaces,which may have any number of sliding interfaces,is a good isolation device to protect structures from earthquake damage through appropriate designs with controllable mechanisms.

Herbal medicines are popular natural medicines that have been used for *** use of alternative medicines continues to expand rapidly across the *** World Health Organization suggests that quality assessment of natural medicines is essential for any therapeutic or health care applic.t.ons,as their therapeutic potential varies between different geographic origins,plant species,and *** of herbal medicines based on a limited number of secondary metabolites is not an ideal *** quality should be considered based on a complete metabolic profile,as their pharmacological activity is not due to a few specific secondary metabolites but rather a larger group of bioactive compounds.A holistic and integrative approach using rapid and nondestructive analytical strategies for the screening of herbal medicines is required for robust *** this study,a rapid and effective quality assessment system for geographical traceability,species,and variety-specific authentic.t. of the widely used natural medicines turmeric,Ocimum,and Withania somnifera was investigated using Fourier transform near-infrared(Ft-NIR)spectroscopy-based metabolic *** different geographical origins of turmeric,five different Ocimum species,and three different varieties of roots and leaves of Withania somnifera were studied with the aid of machine learning *** good discrimination(R^(2)>0.98,Q^(2)>0.97,and accuracy=1.0)with sensitivity and specific.t. of 100%was achieved using this metabolic fingerprinting *** study demonstrated that Ft-NIR-based rapid metabolic fingerprinting can be used as a robust analytical method to authentic.t. several important medicinal herbs.
