Human equivalent dose of oral 4-aminopyridine differentiates nerve crush injury from transection injury and improves post-injury function in mice

4-Aminopyridine(4-AP), an FDA-approved drug for the symptomatic treatment of multiple sclerosis, is used to improve neuromuscular function in patients with diverse demyelinating disorders. We recently demonstrated that local, transdermal or injectable forms of 4-AP improve myelination, nerve conduction velocity, muscle atrophy, and motor function after traumatic peripheral nerve injury in mice. While oral 4-AP is most commonly used in the clinic, it is unknown whether human equivalent oral doses of 4-AP have effects on traumatic peripheral nerve injury differentiation, myelination, muscle atrophy, functional recovery, and post-injury inflammatory processes in animals. Mice with sciatic nerve crush or denervation injury received oral or intraperitoneal 4-AP(10 μg) or vehicle alone and were examined for pharmacokinetics, motor function, muscle mass, intrinsic muscle force, nerve morphological and gene expression profiles. 4-AP showed linear pharmacokinetics and the maximum plasma 4-AP concentrations were proportional to 4-AP dose. Acute single dose of oral 4-AP administration induced a rapid transient improvement in motor function that was different in traumatic peripheral nerve injury with or without nerve continuity, chronic daily oral 4-AP treatment significantly enhanced post crush injury motor function recovery and this effect was associated with improved myelination, muscle mass, and ex vivo muscle force. Polymerase chain reaction array analysis with crushed nerve revealed significant alterations in gene involved in axonal inflammation and regeneration. These findings provide convincing evidence that regardless of the route of administration, 4-AP can acutely differentiate traumatic peripheral nerve injury with or without nerve continuity and can enhance in vivo functional recovery with better preservation of myelin sheaths, muscle mass, and muscle force. U-shaped energy loss curves utilization for distributed generation optimization in distribution networks

We propose novel techniques to find the optimal location,size,and power factor of distributed generation(DG) to achieve the maximum loss reduction for distribution *** the optimal DG location and size is achieved simultaneously using the energy loss curves technique for a pre-selected power factor that gives the best DG *** on the network's total load demand,four DG sizes are *** are used to form energy loss curves for each bus and then for determining the optimal DG *** study shows that by defining the energy loss minimization as the objective function,the time-varying load demand significantly affects the sizing of DG resources in distribution networks,whereas consideration of power loss as the objective function leads to inconsistent interpretation of loss reduction and other *** devised technique was tested on two test distribution systems of varying size and complexity and validated by comparison with the exhaustive iterative method(EIM) and recently published *** showed that the proposed technique can provide an optimal solution with less computation.

Reconfiguring wireless environments via intelligent surfaces for 6G: reflection, modulation, and security

The reconfigurable intelligent surface(RIs) has been recognized as an essential enabling technology for sixth-generation(6G) mobile communication networks. An RIs comprises a large number of small and low-cost reflecting elements whose parameters can be dynamically adjusted with a programmable *** of these elements can effectively reflect a phase-shifted version of the incident electromagnetic wave. By configuring the wave phases in real time, the propagation environment of the information-bearing signals can be dynamically manipulated to enhance communication reliability, boost transmission rate, expand cellular coverage, and strengthen communication security. In this study, we provide an overview on RIs-assisted wireless communications. specifically, we elaborate on the state-of-the-art enabling techniques for the RIs technology as well as their corresponding substantial benefits from the perspectives of RIs reflection and RIs modulation. With these benefits, we envision the integration of RIss into emerging applications for6G. In addition, communication security is of unprecedented importance in future 6G networks with ubiquitous wireless services in multifarious verticals and areas. We highlight potential contributions of RIss to physical-layer security, in terms of secrecy rate and secrecy outage probability, exemplified by a typical case study from both theoretical and numerical aspects. Finally, we discuss challenges and opportunities on the deployment of RIss in practice to motivate future research.

Rifaximin(RFX)is a broad-spectrum oral antibiotic with bactericidal actions against Gram-negative and Gram-positive *** the present work,a sensitive voltammetric assay for the RFX in pharmaceutical formulations is designed using nanostructured working *** functionalization with manganese dioxide(MnO_(2))/fullerene-c_(60) nanocomposite exhibited the highest electrochemical responses with a sharp oxidation peak at about 336 mV that was obtained using the differential pulse voltammetry(DPV).The cyclic voltammetry(cV)and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIs)were applied,while the electrode matrix composition including types of nanomaterials,electroanalytical parameters,and pH eff ect were *** that end,using the DPV,high sensitivity was obtained from the linear calibration curve ranged from 0.8 to 31.5μg·mL^(-1) with the correlation coe fficient of 0.99,limit of detection of 0.76μg·mL^(-1) and limit of quantification of 2.31μg·mL^(-1) .Accordingly,the designed approach is off ering a potential applicability towards the RFX determination in pharmaceutical preparations and its quality control.

Effect of melt-to-solid volume ratio and preheating temperature on Mg/Al bimetals interface by centrifugal casting

compound casting is an efficient method for bonding dissimilar metals,in which a dramatic reaction can occur between the melt and *** centrifugal casting process,a type of compound casting,was applied to cast Al/Mg dissimilar *** melt was poured at 700 °c,with melt-to-solid volume ratios(Vm/Vs) of 1.5 and 3,into a preheated hollow aluminum *** preheating temperatures of the solid part were 320,400,and 450 °c,and the constant rotational speed was 1,600 *** cast parts were kept inside the casting machine until reaching the cooling temperature of 150 °*** result showed that an increase in preheating temperature from 320 to 450 °c led to an enhanced reaction layer *** addition,an increase in the Vm/Vs from 1.5 to 3 resulted in raising the interface thickness from 1.2 to 1.8 ***,the interface was not continuously formed when a Vm/Vs of 3 was *** this case,the force of contraction overcame the resultant acting force on the *** interface formed at the volume ratio of 1.5 was examined using scanning electron microscopy(sEM) equipped with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDs),and the results demonstrated the formation of Al_(3)Mg_(2),Al_(12)Mg_(17) and(δ+Al_(12)Mg_(17)) eutectic structures in the interface.

Background:Hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)is the most common cause of cancer-related death in saudi *** study aimed to investigate the patterns of Hcc and the effect of TNM staging,Alfa-fetoprotein(AFP),and child-Turcotte Pugh(cTP)on patients’overall survival(Os).Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 43 Hcc patients at a single oncology center in saudi Arabia from 2015 to *** patients had to fulfill one of the following criteria:(a)a liver lesion reported as definitive Hcc on dynamic imaging and/or(b)a biopsy-confirmed ***:The mean patient age of all Hcc cases was 66.8 with a male-to-female ratio of 3.3:*** patients were stratified into two groups:viral Hcc(n=22,51%)and non-viral Hcc(n=21,49%).Among viral-Hcc patients,55%were due to HBV and 45%due to *** was diagnosed in 79%of *** and sex did not significantly statistically differ in Os among viral and non-viral Hcc patients(p-value>0.05).About 65%of patients had tumor size>5 cm during the diagnosis,with a significant statistical difference in Os(p-value=0.027).AFP was>400 ng/ml in 45%of the *** was a statistically significant difference in the Os in terms of AFP levels(p-value=0.021).A statistically significant difference was also observed between the cTP score and Os(p-value=0.02).cTP class B had the longest *** was the most common treatment provided to Hcc patients followed by sorafenib *** was a significant statistical difference in Os among viral and non-viral Hcc patients(p-value=0.008).conclusions:The most common predictors for Os were the underlying cause of Hcc,AFP,and tumor *** having non-viral etiology,a tumor size>5 cm,an AFP>400 ng/mL,and a cTP score class c were all negatively associated with Os.
