High-resolution spec.r.l radiance measurements were taken by a spec.r.l radiometer on board a heli- copter over the US Oklahoma Southern Great Plain near the Atmospheric.r.diation Measurements (ArM) site during August 1998. The radiometer has a spec.r.l range from 350 nm to 2500 nm at 1 nm resolution The measurements covered several grass and cropland scene types at multiple solar zenith angles. Detailed atmospheric c.r.ections using the Moderate resolution Transmittance (MODTrAN) radiation model and in-situ sounding and aerosol measurements have been applied to the helicopter measurements in order to re- trieve the surface and top of atmosphere (TOA) Bidirectional reflectance Distribution Function (BrDF) characteristics. The atmospheric c.r.ections are most significant in the visible wavelengths and in the strong water vapor absorption wavelengths in the near infrared region Adjusting the BrDF to TOA requires a larger c.r.ection in the visible channels since rayleigh scattenng contributes significantly to the TOA reflectance. The opposite c.r.ections to the visible and near infrarred wavelengths can alter the radiance dif- ference and ratio that many remote sensing techniques are based on, such as the normalixed difference vege- tation index (NDVI). The data show that surface BrDFs and spec.r.l albedos are highly sensitive to the veg- etation type and soldr zenith angle while BrDF at TOA depends more on atmospheric conditions and the vi ewing geometry. comparison with the clouds and the Earth's radiant Energy System (c.r.S) derived clear sky Angular Distribution Model (ADM) for crop and grass scene type shows a standard deviation of 0.08 in broadband anisotropic function at 25°solar zenith angle and 0.15 at 50° solar zenith angle, respectively.

AIM:To investigate the association of macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF)promoter polymorphisms with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)***:One thousand and six New Zealand caucasian cases and 540 caucasian controls were genotyped for the MIF SNP-173G>c.r.755622)and the repeat polymorphism cATT5-8(rs5844572)using a predesigned TaqMan SNP assay and capillary elec.r.phoresis,*** were analysed for single site and haplotype association with IBD risk and ***-analysis was employed,to assess cumulative evidence of association of MIF-173G>c with *** published genotype data for MIF-173G>c in IBD were identified using PubMed and subsequently searching the references of all PubMed-identified *** genotypes for MIF-173G>c were generated from the Wellcome Trust case control consortium(and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases).Separate meta-analyses were performed on caucasian crohn’s disease(cD)(3863 patients,6031controls),caucasian ulc.r.tive colitis(Uc)(1260 patients,1987 controls),and East Asian Uc(416 patients and 789 controls)datasets using the Mantel-Haenszel *** New Zealand dataset had 93%power,and the meta-analyses had 100%power to detect an effect size of Or=1.40 atα=0.05,***:In our New Zealand dataset,single-site analysis found no evidence of association of MIF polymorphisms with overall risk of cD,Uc,and IBD or disease phenotype(all P values>0.05).Haplotype analysis found the cATT5/-173c haplotype occ.r.ed at a higher frequency in New Zealand controls compared to IBD patients(0.6 vs 0.01;P=0.03,Or=0.22;95%cI:0.05-0.99),but this association did not survive bonferroni ***-analysis of our New Zealand MIF-173G>c data with data from seven additional caucasian datasets using a random effects model found no association of MIF polymorphisms with cD,Uc,or overall ***,meta-analysis of all published MIF-173G>c data from East Asian datasets(416Uc patients

Previous studies have documented that selective delivery of protein antigens to cells expressing mannose receptor （Mr） can lead to enhanced immune responses. We postulated that agents that influenced the Mr expression level, and the activation and migration status of Mr-expressing antigen presenting cells, would modulate immune responses to Mr-targeted vaccines. To address this question, we investigated the effect of clinically used adjuvants in human Mr transgenic （hMr-Tg） mice immunized with an Mr-targeting canc.r.vaccine composed of the human anti-Mr monoclonal antibody B 11 fused with the oncofetal protein, human chorionic gonadotropin beta chain （hcGβ）, and referred to as B 11-hcGβ. We found that humoral responses to low doses of B11-hcGβ could be enhanced by prior administration of GM-cSF, which upregulated Mr expression in vivo. However, co-administration of the Toll-like receptor （TLr） agonists, poly-IcLc and/or cpG with B11-hcGβ was required to elicit Thl immunity, as measured by antigen-specific T-cell production of IFN-γ. The TLr agonists were shown to increase the number of vaccine-containing cells in the draining lymph nodes of immunized hMr-Tg mice. In particular, with B11-hcGβand poly-IcLc, a dramatic increase in vaccine-positive cells was observed in the T-ceU areas of the lymph nodes, compared to the vaccine alone or combined with GM-cSF. Importantly, the absence of the TLr agonists during the priming immunization led to antigen-specific tolerance. Therefore, this study provides insight into the mechanisms by which adjuvants can augment immune responses to B11-hcGβ and have implications for the rationale design of clinical studies combining Mr-targeted vaccination with TLr agonists.

Background： canopy structure, defined by leaf area index （LAI）, fractional vegetation cover （Fcover） and fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation （fAPAr）, regulates a wide range of forest functions and ecosystem services. Spatially consistent field-measurements of canopy structure are however lacking, particularly for the tropics. Methods： Here, we introduce the Global LAI database： a global dataset of field-based canopy structure measurements spanning tropical forests in four continents （Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas）. We use these measurements to test for climate dependencies within and across continents, and to test for the potential of anthropogenic disturbance and forest protection to modulate those dependences. results： Using data collected from 887 tropical forest plots, we show that maximum water deficit, defined across the most arid months of the year, is an important predictor of canopy structure, with all three canopy attributes declining significantly with increasing water deficit. canopy attributes also increase with minimum temperature, and with the protection of forests acc.r.ing to both active （within protected areas） and passive measures （through topography）. Once protection and continent effects are accounted for, other anthropogenic measures （e.g. human population） do not improve the model. conclusions： We conclude that canopy structure in the tropics is primarily a consequence of forest adaptation to the maximum water deficits historically experienced within a given region. climate change, and in particular changes in drought regimes may thus affect forest structure and function, but forest protection may offer some resilience against this effect.

c.r.ent guidelines on thrombolysis post stroke with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) exclude its use where time of onset is unknown, thus denying some patients potentially beneficial treatment. contrast enhanced perfusion computed tomography (pcT) imaging can be used together with plain cT and information on clinical deficits to decide whether or not thrombolysis should be initiated even though the exact time of stroke onset is unknown. Based on the results of pcT and cT, rt-PA was administered to two patients with unknown time of stroke onset; one of the patients also underwent suction thrombectomy. results in both cases were excellent.
